To the Zoo. It's free, makes you feel you're doing something worthwile (especially if you make a donation) and give you and your date plenty of opportunities to talk and things to talk about. Just don't go on a Saturday during the summer--you will not be able to move a foot without being run over by a stroller, a kid running around with no parents in sight, or people who just aren't courteous enough to watch where they are walking.
Plenty of parking and also close to the lake--can you say picnic?

For every little girl who ever wanted to be a princess, this store is perfect: you have shopping for overpriced dolls, an overly expensive restaurant where your dolly can "eat" too, and the chance to practice adult and/or "mommy" skills. Also, a hair salon, outfits to match your doll's, and velvet rope outside for the long lines (it may be velvet, but a line's a line). I consider it a training ground for future desperate housewives.

Delrium Tremens on tap, a bar as long as...well, it's long, and off-the-beaten track music compilations. Moodily dark inside, with an open air patio in the back, the Long Room is great for an evening drink or two. On the weekends, this place starts to get crowded after 10PM or so; it's not that bad of a crush, when compared to other places.
Drinks aren't terribly expensive, and there are daily specials to help the budget. Can get a little smoky and, as the evening progresses, the volume does up, so bring some earplugs if you're sensitive or go/leave early if you are looking for good conversation over brews.

An ideal place to meet friends for a good drink, live music and fresh artwork. The crowds can pack this place quickly on weekends; weekdays are better and there is usually a beer special. The people working here are generally nice.
The volume is usually turned up too high to have great conversation. A punky, bikerish type of place, with plenty of brews to choose from.
And unfortunately, they have taken down the wooden, English pub-style sign with a portrait of a woman on each side.

While Map Room, with its extensive beer offerings and beer education, is still a great place to hang out solo or with friends, it isn't ALWAYS a great place to hang out. This mostly occurs on weekends when young twentysomethings, or those pretending to be young twentysomethings, converge at this bar in their chunky square glasses and blazers over layered shirts...you know, the ones who are trying really hard to be different and fit in at the same time. I'm not saying this happens all the time; what I am saying is that there is no predicting.
The bathrooms are small, but generally okay in the cleanliness department.
Map Room also seems to be a good place to meet people, either platonically or romantically.

If you go for one reason, go for the beer. If you go for two reasons, go for the beer, and the mussels. The mussels are the best I have ever had.
The only negative I have experienced so far has been the wait. How many people need to eat dinner at 5PM on Saturday anyway? (of course, I'm only going at that time to drink!)

The fish and chips were served with peas, coleslaw and fries. Burgers are good but the fries were soft--I like crispy fries. Also on the menu: Shepherd's pie, lamb stew, Irish bacon BLT and chicken curry.
In relation to time and attentiveness, the service sucks. But maybe I've just been on off nights. The beer list (drafts and bottles) makes up for it though.
They have a patio on the sidewalk, however it's on Ashland so may be loud/dirty, depending on traffic.

While there is plenty of seating and parking, U.S. Cellular field has very little personality--it could be any team's stadium.
Many food choices available, but the selection is more of a distraction than anything--expect to spend at least 10 minutes in line and another 10 minutes maneuvering the crowds.
Overall pretty clean, including the bathrooms--the wait is never that long.
Take Red or Green Lines.

Great salon--and worth it. Each stylist will sit down with you, before they even show you a brush, to discuss your "hair needs," including what kind of cuts you've liked, what your ideal is, and tips to maintaining your locks.
The stylists are hip and very hair saavy, some having been trained at Aveda.
They offer hair care products, as well as make-up. Cosmetic services are only offered at the Lincoln Ave. lcoation.
Monday afternoons they need models for training classes--these haircuts for men and women are $10. Visit their web site for more info.

The decor is modern and somehow relaxing, and the equipment seems up-to-date. The waiting area offers a selection of magazines and, while not overly comfortable, will do if you have to wait for nail drying.
However, this is the only place a manicure has resulted in bleeding around my nails. The nail technician was aggressive and, had I not already just had a pedicure and an event to attend later, I would have left without finishing the manicure.
The services are slightly more expensive here then elsewhere; my mani/pedi was $40 but I had a coupon. I've seen other places in the neighborhood advertise $30 for the same.
