Located in many places around the city, but at this place you are close to all the Michigan Ave shopping.

What a great store for finding a unique and personalized Christmas gift! Go when you have plenty of time--you won't want to feel rushed. The bears are kind of expensive, and you can probably put something similar together after a trip to JoAnn's for a lot less. Of course, Build-A-Bear is very convenient!
Be sure to avoid this place on weekends, especially as the holidays approach--it gets very crowded.

Surprisingly enough Fogo De Chao has one of the best salad bars in Chicago, in case your GF/BF is vegetarian.
A good place for out-of-towners, especially if they're your parents. But not the most original restaurant; there are very similar places located downtown too (i.e. Sal Carvao).

Small tables, limited seating and a sidewalk patio.
Get it to go and have your sandwich with a pint at Sheffield's, just a few blocks away.

Good food, plenty of daily food and drink specials and a great outdoor patio in the back. I like the pizza special; just imagaine: 4 friends, 2 pizzas, 6 beers, all for under $40. Where else can you find such a great deal, without having to cook for yourself?
Cleo's in best in warm weather when you can sit outside because the interior is dark and a little cramped. Service and bathrooms are nothing special.

Fleet Feet has excellent variety and a helpful staff when it comes to running shoes. They encourage you to run in the shoes to find the best fit. You'll often see customers pounding the pavement in front of this store.
You can also purchase shorts, shirts, some tri-gear, etc. Prices are decent but not rock bottom.
Fleet Feet also acts as a meeting point for weekly running groups--you can change at the store if you're coming from work.

This location is small, but still offers a good selection. What makes this location the best is its staff: they are friendly, always saying hi when you walk in, and always offering great conversation, movie-related or otherwise. They're good at recommending films and helping you find what you're looking for.
Of course, Blockbuster only offers so many movies--this business is always out of (or doesn't have) something I'm looking for too.

The Field Museum is more than a storehouse for biological and historical items; it's a place to learn without feeling like you're being instructed. The exhibits are really well put together, from shoes to dinosaurs.
Be sure to see the King Tut exhibit, open through January 2007. Admission extra.
City Pass saves you 50% on regular admission.
A good trip for families, friends and, of course, school groups.

This museum has a lot to offer, from the stationary exhibits (i.e. submarine) to the changing exhibits (currently Da Vinci). This is the place to spend a day, with kids or without. Be sure to bring film as many of the exhibits are great backdrops (or subjects) for pictures.
