Extremely Rude manager, not a friendly place to take kids to. 10/13/2007

Earlier today, my husband, 1 year old daughter, and I met with a friend for lunch at Thai Noodle Etc near UT-Austin campus. When we first arrived, an annoyed looking manager came to seat us. I asked her to please fetch us a highchair for our daughter. She rudely pointed to a highchair in the corner and said we can go get it ourselves! She was right next to the highchairs and yet she refused to get it for us! My husband had to do it. Shortly thereafter, the same disgruntled manager came and took our order. As we waited for the food to arrive, my daughter got fidgety and started to fuss a bit. Every time she made any noise at all, that manager would shoot her a VERY mean glance and heave angrily and audibly! I was just so stunned at how blatantly she did this! I tried to ignore it, but she did it multiple times while we were waiting for our food. I was confused, as the restaurant was very casual and my daughter's occasional noise did not seem to bother any of the other patrons the least bit. When we finally received our food, we were never checked on again. When she finally threw the check on the table (before we finished our meal), I promptly paid (without leaving a tip). As we reached our car and were getting ready to leave this unpleasant experience behind us, the manager stormed out of the restaurant and shouted, ?you didn?t leave me a tip!!? I was just so SHOCKED!! She was ACTUALLY demanding a tip after that kind of service! Moreover, it was beyond unprofessional for her to follow us out to our car to tell us this. I just can?t think of anything that could justify her behavior. We told her point blank that tipping is not compulsory, and we won't tip anyone who treated our daughter as rudely as she has! She eventually walked back inside angrily and told us to never come back again. I can't believe she actually thought we WOULD come back after this! It?s such a shame because we do like Thai food. We will be going to Madam Mam from now on. Pros: decent Thai food Cons: horrible service, EXTREMELY RUDE manger, not children friendly more

WORST SERVICEEEE EVEERRR 9/22/2007

ok. i walked into the restaurant n they barely even welcomed me! i walked into the door and the waiter rudely asked how many ppl. The place that i sat at was even worse...bugs everywhere.. so i asked to be moved n they were just looking at me all confused. The freakin lady took forever to come in and place the order. She didnt even ask me for a drink or anhing. The food i admit was good, but they service just pizzed me offf. The manager was sooo rude as well. I ordered by food, and hes like "" Oh you Indian people always picky about spicy food"" Ok, is it me or is that just being a rascist! This is ridiculous. AND to make things worse, when my bill came in, I didnt pay any tip, because... well i guess you can tell why, and as I was leaving the place, the manager screams at me saying "" Hey! you didnt pay any tip! You're suppose to pay tip"" I was just completely shocked! Never in my entire life have I ever had anyone say that to me! As I hesistantly got my wallet out, he watched me take out the cash which picced me off even more! RIDICULOUS!!! HE was groaning at me when i put $1 down, n then i finally put $2. For those of you who like thai food, and actually want to be completely happy about the food and the service, DO NOT GO HERE. And if you do end up going, DO NOT PAY ANY TIP! Pros: NOTHINGGG Cons: Stingy Manager..this is americaaa..learn customer service or go back to thailandd or whatever more

NASTY and RUDE STAFF 8/24/2007

I was planning to meet a couple of friends at Thai Noodle on campus and I decided to park and wait for them to arrive. I told the receptionist that I was waiting for friends to come and I was just going to walk around (I told her so that my car wouldn't get towed). When my friends arrived they said that they didn't want to eat there b/c the food was nasty and we should go someplace else. As I was leaving, that same woman comes running out yelling ""Liar! You said you eat here"". she goes on to harrass me and blocked my car where I couldn't back-up. I told her that that was NOT okay and she needed to walk away. Well, we ended up exchanging words until I finally told her that we weren't eating there b/c the food was nasty. She finally walked back inside. But I think it is crazy that the staff is that desperate for business that they attack the customers that decide not to dine there.\r Truth be told the food is nasty. Madam Mams is 1000% better and they are a block away. DO NOT EAT AT THAI NOODLE on Guadalupe!!! Pros: it is close to campus Cons: the food is Nasty and the Staff is rude more

ridiculous staff behavior 6/7/2007

I went here an hour before they closed, and they refused to seat us indoors, despite there being several empty tables and at least two groups of people eating inside at the time. The excuse was that they were getting ready to clean the inside. I tipped meagrely as a result and they followed me into the parking lot demanding to know why. Two people did this one after the other, the second one almost preventing me from leaving by blocking my car until i threatened to call the cops. Avoid this place like the plague. The food is above average but it's not worth putting up with these people. more

worst service 5/17/2007

My friend and I have frequented this place, and have gone back since we like the atmosphere. We usually chat for a long time, and the waitress bothers you frequently - hurrying you up to order, to pay, and to leave. We still kept going back, but after today - never again. The manager (I believe) came to us as soon as we started to sit down and told us that they will be closing in one hour (this was during lunch time) and that we will need to leave if we plan to stay any longer than an hour. I asked if the outside seating would still be available since she said it was to clean the restaurant inside. She said that we could not sit outside either. We decided to leave since she was so rude! I understand if there are people lining up and there are not enough seats, or if she at least came to tell us after we'd been staying there - but basically it was almost like she refused to serve us at all. Madam Ma'ams has way better service and I am sure this place is going to lose a lot of customers like us. more

RUDE STAFF 4/28/2007

Food is greasy for Thai standards. But the manager is VERY RUDE. She trues to make it seem like she's doing you a favor for having you at the restaurant. Go there and you'll see exacylt what I mean....on second thoughts, I would recommend this place to anyone. Pros: None Cons: RUDE MANAGER....VERY RUDE more

CRAZY LADY MANAGER 4/28/2007

VERY RUDE LADY MANAGER. She will chase you out of he restaurant shouting in another language if your tip is less than 20% (mine was 16.5%). VERY ARROGANT. Food below average, but tolerable (but that's not the reason for the low rating). I came here only because there was no parking at Madam Mam's.....never again. Pros: lots of parking Cons: TERRIBLY RUDE MANAGER more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN MY LIFE 4/25/2007

Seriously, although this place's food is decent, its not worth putting up with the horribly RUDE staff and especially the manager. I have been here a couple of time, service sucked but today topped the cake. \r The waiter acted incredibly inconvenieced when I asked him for ONE thing. He told me in a rude tone , ""yeah. Hold on. "" and walked off. We left a chronicle on the table and the manager yelled at us across the parking lot to come back and pick up our table. I am a really nice passive person, and easy going. I went back and picked it up to make HER happy. Then she snickered rudely at us. I should have just thrown the paper in her ugly face. I dont know where SHES from, but here in AMERICA, restraunts strive to make the CUSTOMER happy and dont yell at them. What a crazy woman. DONT GO HERE, unless you just like being yelled at and treated with dissrespect. You can easily go to one of the other 10 Thai places down here. Ill never go there again. Cons: crazy manager that will explode in rage on you for no reason more

Worst Dining Experience 4/14/2007

I frequented Thai Noodle House (or Thai Noodle Etc.) because I liked the prompt seating and they're pretty good at getting the food ready fast. So, today was just one of those days... until as I was tipping, she (I believe she's the manager) took the tip away from me and counted it and yelled at me. She asked me why I was tipping her under 15%. Make note: I was STILL grabbing money out of my wallet to TIP her. She gave me, well everyone one of us, a lecture about how she did great service and how she deserved better and how we're suppose to give at least 15%. After the lecture, she went to fetch something else, as we were standing up to leave, she comes back grabs all the checks calculates them and yelled at another one of my friend - he tipped her 11% for an appetizer. Funny thing is, the only thing she did for us was refill our waters once. So, either leave before she can harrass you for more tip, or tip her what you were about to before she gets to the table. She raised a commotion and everyone at the restaurant looked at us. What great service.. Pros: Prompt seating, serves food quickly Cons: horrible service, horrible management more

Thai Noodle House, Etc 4/11/2007

I used to frequent this joint during my younger college days. They were fast, considerate, and their food was excellent. After they changed managment a couple of years ago, I was sceptical about the menu changes, especially to my all time favorite dish, the pad thai. I got used to it. Recently, I went in and was REFUSED service as a paying customer because I wanted to sit outside and eat. It seems these seats were reserved for larger parties (say 2 or more as I was to witness). I drove out of my way to get to this restaurant. You can imagine my astonishment. I talked with the manager. She was more than unfriendly. I have choicier words, but they are inappropriate for what I am trying to convey. Not only has the food become below par, but the service is absolutely reprehensible. I will never be going back there, and this saddens me because it was a place I used to love. Pros: Food is the only saving grace Cons: Service, Menu Changes, Seating arrangements. Management more

Poor Service for ""okay"" food 4/4/2007

I might not be a picky eater, but poor treatment leaves a bad taste in my mouth no matter how good the food was. The food here is ""okay""; The flavor and spices are sometimes not right, but that is not an issue for me. Their spoons might be jagged or have traces of soap cake from improper washing, but I eat with chopsticks so that again is not a big issue. My main problem is with the slow service and the rude treatment. Granted, this is a family-run business and they might be understaffed, but this is still mismanagement on their part. Moreover, the manager takes offense and goes on the defensive at the slightest complaint, instead of taking a more constructive and diplomatic approach to the situation. \r \r My refusal to tip for slow service today (that almost made me miss a meeting) was met by the manager with a calm but stern reponse that ""if you don't plan to tip, then order take-out next time"". I politely insisted that their service was lacking (not taking kindly to that kind of pressure to draw an undeserving tip out of me). The manager merely shrugged and blatantly informed me that I was no longer welcome there.\r \r I will not be troubling ""Thai Noodle Etc."" with my rude patronage again. more

Decent food, horrible service 3/18/2007

I have eaten at this place regularly during the past one year or so. The food has been good. Unfortunately, today I had a horrible experience at the restaurant. I went there with my family, including two children. The management was so rude that we left without eating. I even told them that I am one of their regular customers and I was shocked to see such cold/rude behavior from the server (who knew me well). I went inside to talk to the owner/manager and she had a similar attitude. Anyway, the food here is good but I would never go there with my family again. Madam Mam's is nearby and their food is as good as this place though a bit pricier. Pros: Decent food, good curry dishes. Cons: Bad service, rude management, dirty place. more

No Longer an Option 3/5/2007

This place used to be a reliable, though mediocre, cheap place to eat. I went this past Sunday night and had an awful experience. They were slammed and understaffed and my group of 4 had to wrangle a server to come and take our order. I ordered a soup vegetarian style (w/ mixed vegetables) and the waiter went over the order 3 times with me to make sure he got it right... of course, when it came out it was the original dish with chicken and shrimp. There was no way I could wait for someone to pass by the table again, so I brought the dish up to the waiter and told him about the mistake. Another 5 minutes later, he came out with a bowl of soup with a salad thrown on top as ""mixed vegetables"" - it looked completely unappetizing so when he finally came back to the table (10 mins. later!) I asked for some ""mixed vegetables"" or at least the mushrooms that were originally in the meal. He went through some long, convoluted explanation that the mushrooms went with the meat in the dish and not the mixed veggies, blah, blah, blah. Finally he agreed to bring me some mushrooms. I waited another 10 mins. no mushrooms, so I ate a little - very average - and we had to leave for our show. We had to get up again and get our own take home containers and ask for our bill. When our bill didn't arrive after 10 mins., we found our waiter and handed him what we thought our meals cost and he feigned some apologies and made a half-hearted attempt to find our bill before just giving up. We walked away knowing we would NEVER return again. I couldn't believe he made me pay for my meal. In addition, their curry bowls that used to come out in the large soup bowls now come out in tiny little bowls, so instead of raising prices they have halved their serving size. When I asked the owner? about it, she got defensive and just said: it's $5.95 what do you expect? It was an all around terrible and unsatisfying dining experience, unless of course you like the DIY approach to dining out. Pros: it's near campus Cons: everything else more

Just Okay - If You're Lucky 12/26/2006

I used to love coming here; as a matter of fact I've been eating here for several years. However recently this place has gone down the tubes in every way imaginable, which is dissapointing because it used to be one of my favorite places. First, the service went downhill, which used to be terrific. The waiters and waitresses, with a couple exceptions, are rude and take forever to even acknowledge you. If you ask for ANYTHING beyond what is customary you'll just be met with confusion and then resentment (is asking for extra sauce really that high of an expectation?) Secondly, there's the food. All of my (use to be) favorite dishes are now inconsistent in their preparation. Sometimes they're overly spicy, or not enough, sometimes bland, sometimes overdone. Last but not least... sanitation. I just can't stand a lack of sanitation, I don't care how ""mom and pop"" or ""keep Austin weird"" or whatever.... this place is. Every time I order a Thai tea or coffee the milk is curdled. Now, this never happened before, only the last few times (I gave it a shot more than once). They just tell me it's frozen or that's the way it is or some other excuse. I'm sorry, but I know curdled dairy when I see it and I've never seen these drinks look this way before. The plates, silverware and cups all seem like they're not washed very well anymore. I don't know what happened here the last few months but whatever it was, it made everything that was great about this place go downhill. Save your money and go somewhere else. Pros: Location Cons: Service, Food, Sanitation, Parking more

if you can't afford madam maams 11/17/2006

decent thai food but don't go if you are a connouisser, good for people just being introduced to it. get the c8. Pros: well-priced, decent food Cons: small space, kind of dirty more

Quaint, cozy, and uniquely Austin 7/31/2006

Thai Noodle House, as it is also called, takes Bevo Bucks and is a real treat for UT students who don't feel like traveling far for good food. It's located right behind Little City Cafe and 711 on the ""Drag."" Don't miss out on the sinfully delicious Sin Noodles (a vegetarian treat), and wake up to high octance Thai Tea. Pros: Close to campus, takes Bevo Bucks! more

I Love Thai Noodle Etc! 5/26/2005

The food here is cheap and consistently tasty. The patio is usually full but not too crowded, service is friendly without being annoying, and they serve beer in cold glasses. Some of the dishes cater to american taste buds, while some are pretty authentic. THeres an excellent selection for vegans/vegetarians. If you like spicy, they dont disappoint. Definitely recommended for quick and affordable Thai food! Pros: Affordable, Freindly, Yummy more

Good for a quick meal 12/28/2003

Well, for starter's, this place is about as Thai as the Thai Pizza at Quizno's Subs. Walk in, and the cook is Mexican, your server Chinese, and the guy behind the counter Indian. But don't let that dissuade you, for a very low price you get some good, fast noodles and some other fairly traditional Thai dishes. They don't taste very Thai to my palate, and a lot of the food is obviously freezer fresh, but for my money, this is one of the best places to eat around campus. more

Best Ever 12/2/2003

This is the best Thai place I have ever eaten at. The service is fast. The dishes are excellent. My favorite is C5. Pros: Patio area Cons: In an alley more

S6 rocks! 11/4/2003

I love this place and think its great Longhorn delivery includes them on their pick-up list. The S6 is my favorite -- rice vermicelli in a curry, coconut milk soup with tofu and lots of veggies and roasted garlic. The potato chips on top is quite novel (is this done on Thailand?). My only disappointment have been their meat dishes. Tofu is the way to go! Pros: good parking, great food, low prices Cons: tasteless meat more
