Couldn't really ask for a nicer day in the city. When you have to be at work you might as well break up the day by meeting a few friends for lunch at Mars Bar. I ordered the Ahi - tuna salad but the tuna was out for the day. Instead I ordered the three tacos and loved em! The back patio is a great escape from the rest of the city! I will be back again and again. Pros: Great patio more

First class small club scene with decent eats. 9/8/2008

Great atmosphere, wild music from live DJ,ran from Urban breaks to Funk -cool. Really amazingly attentive service without the attitude you get from some clubs! Pros: Cool spot if you are south of market Cons: small club and a bit wild more

A spot to quench your thirst 6/29/2007

We went to Mars after work to celebrate some results. Nice patio in back allowed our group to sit together and enjoy finger food and a few rounds of drinks. Our waitress provided good service and met all of our needs. Pool table allowed for some entertainment as well as the Giants on the tv screens. more

Fun, local bar 10/24/2006

We always pass this place up on the way to Trader Joe's, so we finally decided to see what it was about. We went on a Friday night to have some drinks. It was pretty spacious, with a pool table and an outdoor patio, which I especially liked. We didn't have any food, but it smelled good. Fun, lively crowd. I'll go back. more

Yummy Sunday Brunch 6/19/2005

We decided to try out the new Sunday Brunch at Mars and both ended up having the ""Omelette Special of the Day"" which turned out to be anything we wanted! The food was good ... the roasted potatos were fab and he omelettes were delicious - they were decent in size (not huge - which is fine by me). All the ingredients were fresh and put together by someone who can cook (not like some of the hacks in other places). The service was attentive, without being intrusive and the bartender was a nice guy. Personally, I liked the music ... it was an eclectic mix of 80s and 90s stuff. The outside patio is quite nice with some funky plastic flowers mixed in with the usual (real) greenery. All in all, Mars is an attractive place (better than the exterior would suggest). We'll be going back again, for sure. more

Not Bad for a Corner Bar with a Patio! 6/7/2005

With a new interior and a very nice outdoor patio, our whole office thinks Mars is a great place to go after work for beers, playing pool, having a burger and sitting outside to smoke. Yes, sometimes the crowd is eclectic but that is why we think it is a cool place. The music is a little bit of this and that but just grooves along. The food is incredible. This is by far the best burger in the city but we have all had the quesadilla's and chicken wings and they're good also. We like their beer selection. The margarita's and cocktails come in BIG glasses. By the way, the guys think the girls are cute and the girls in the office think they have cute guys hanging out but I think it's an attractive crowd for all of us with mixed sexual persuasions. I hadn't been here since february & read the expatretor's review so when i randomly stopped by last saturday night i was suspect of how it was going to be. but i have to tell you i haven't had that much fun anywhere in a long time. i don't know what they heard for music before but the music saturday night was great! from a little classic house to some prince and even new order. bartender was even dancing on the bar with this really cute girl before the night was over. maybe i'm used to paying too much for drinks as it is but i didn't think it was that expensive as other reviewers said, but the bar manager told me that he was aware of customer's comments and was already working on lowering them. does that mean i'll be drinking twice as much now? i'd definately go back. I don't get it, why this funlovingirl loved it? This place is SO bad. Ok, easy parking and they have a patio that's the only plus. On the other side the drinks are expensive and small, the music is just bad, there is no atmosphere at all, no style... I went there twice during the week and weekend at around 9PM and each time it was empty... The worst thing is that I wanted to have lunch on Saturday on their patio and at 2PM they were CLOSE! Saturday, sun shinning, they have an isolated patio and they were close!!! Obviously there is something wrong with this place To avoid there are lots of other nice bar in SF. Pros: Parking, Patio (close on WE) Cons: Expensive small drink, No atmosphere, Bad music more

Okay...I just want to say that this place rocks. My girlfriends and I were so bored this weekend and we driving home when we passed by Mars bar. We saw some activity inside, so we stopped the car, parked and went inside. This place is un-discovered or something because it was so cool and we didn't even know it was open again. Cute bartenders, cute crowd and great drinks. I don't know what was up with the last review but they (expertrater) were obviously having some kind of dementia because Friday was great and so I brought my boyfriend on Saturday night which was even better. Overpriced drinks, bad music 4/30/2005

This bar has potential to be a nice hangout. There is a charming patio with trees and heat lamps. However, the problem is that the drinks are small and more expensive than comparable bars. I have no problem paying higher prices for alcohol if the overall value of the establishment is worth it, but this bar is not. This is an average bar on a lousy street in SOMA. No wonder the place was dead on a recent Friday night. Additionally, there is a jukebox to choose music from. What knowledgeable bar owner actually has a jukebox in his/her bar. And it was spitting out banal music from the 70's and 80's. Note to bar owner: align your drink prices to fit the value of the establishment and your competition, and spring for a decent sound system playing modern music and then you might have more patrons showing up. Pros: nice patio Cons: overpriced drinks, small drinks, bad, bad music more

Great space, for those who remember even the old mars. New owners are have made the place a much place, with better drinks, great bartenders, and good vibe. Definitely worth it. more

loved this bar before changed ownership. had good balance of quiet and crazy, but always great bartenders and off the hook drinks, but now, really different crowd and weak-ass high priced drinks. exactly what it wanst before. Pros: cleaner Cons: , yuk crowd more

the new MARS looks great! 11/28/2004

everyone says how they love Mars but haven't been there in a while so I think people should check it out again with the new changes happening there. It's still a fun place with a friendly staff and great drink prices. As soon as you walk in the place is very inviting and warm. They say more changes are coming in the new year (including expanding the menu and finishing out my favorite - the outdoor patio) and I think they're on the right track! Definately put it back on your radar! Pros: good parking, not expensive, cute bartenders more
