We were very disappointed at Lulu's. We ordered the chicken fried steak meal. The chicken fried steak was ok, the Mac and cheese had to chase down with a spoon , the mashed potatoes had no flavor, the dinner rolls were the biggest bomb, could have used then to play kick the dinner roll. Only good then we enjoyed was the cinnamon roll. more

Lulu's Bakery & Cafe - dont bother! 1/20/2012

Sadly disappointed. Not only was the food just barely edible, but the staff and dirty atmosphere made it an unpleasant experience as well. Our waitress was so slow. It wasn't busy when we went in and no other customers came during our 1.5 hour experience. The waitress took forever to bring our drinks, even longer to bring out the luke warm, greasy food. The 3lb cinnamon roll is huge - but other than that - hard as a rock, and not at all flavorful. Many staff behind the counter stood around gabbing and counting (tip) money out in the open. They should have utilized thier time by cleaning or paying attn to their customers! I felt dirty and smelled of greasy fried food when I left. The cafeteria across the street would have been a better option. Pros: null Cons: null more

Don't believe the hype!!!!! 6/12/2011

3 words. What a dissappointment! My family and I watch man vs food earlier in the week. My 17 year old and 9 year old decide we have to try it. 2 nights ago 8:30PM we drive into San Antonio to try this "world famous" Lulus. WE get seated by a waitress that takes our drink orders and dissappears for 15 minutes before returning with our drinks. . I get the "famous" chicken fried steak with mashpotatos and fried okra. My son gets a western omeletn with a side of hashbrowns. My 9 year old gets chicken strips. The waitress disappears for another 30 minutes before checking to see if were ok. By that time we had all needed refills for some time. After roughly 45 minutes, she brings out my chicken fried steak and my 9 year olds chicken tenders. She explains to my 17 year old that the omelet had to be remade. The chicken fried steak was lukewarm and the gravy was flavorless. The mashed potatoes were old and scooped on the plate by a icecream scoop. The roll was hard as a rock. The Okra was the only bright side. It took another 25 minutes to remake my sons omelet and get it brought out to us. Several times while waiting for food, I tried to motion for the waitress just to refill our drinks. The restraunt was half empty and half the waitresses were standing around the register, including mine. After food was finely served, not once did she come out to check the quality and to see if we were happy or needed anything. I finally had to get up and ask another waitress to get us refills. As my son asked for salsa, she replied "thank you" and walked back to the front to continue chatting with the other waitresses. Never again. Once you get bad service someplace, it's not easy going back. This is one place I will not be going back to. I could care less about the giant cinnamon role. Two nearby diners said it wasn't as good as expected. It says volumes when diners around you are complaining and it's only 9:30 at night. I thought everything would be fresh and delicious. Wow was I wrong. Hope the review helps. The menu touts how many awards they have recieved. Must all be old awards!!! more

Best food and customer service 3/17/2011

I went to try the cinnamon rolls after seeing Man vs Food. I took it home and it was so huge that it literally took days to eat. Our waitress gave us excellent service and aimed to please. Our next visit was to try the chicken fried steak. The portion was so huge that it was also taken home (it fed 3 people plus). If you ever go, you should also try the fried mushrooms... they are to die for! We had the same waitress who gave us FABULOUS service. We got the chicken fried steak, 2 drinks, fried mushrooms and sides and only paid $21.08. What a bargain for a terrific meal and service. We traveled 150 miles for this and it was well worth it! more

Good chicken friend steak 7/15/2010

The chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken were good. Though someone at the table had to return their chicken fried chicken because it was not warm and the gravy that came with the chicken friend chicken was not warm at all; perhaps sat on the counter too longer before delivered to our table; however, they immediately corrected the problem. Pros: good chicken fried steak Cons: old building, floors could be cleaner more

Classic Place 2/8/2010

Went there often with some friends and we always had a great time! Their cinnamon buns are the best! Only reason I didn't give them five stars is because they sometimes don't cook all of their meat and one of my friends ended up getting sick. The other time I was the one who ate a bit of it, but my stomach managed to tough it out. They made our meals free to make up for it. They focus on keeping a friendly reputation. The staff are a bunch of weirdoes once you really get to know them, but the more you get to know them, the cooler they are! Just be sure to check your meat! ! Pros: Cool interior with a rather 'unique' staff Cons: sometimes get raw meat (happened to me twice) more

Great Food for the price 1/3/2010

Saw the place on Man vs. Food and had to try for myself. The chicken fried steak could feed 2-3 persons. I was only able to eat about a 1/3 of it. I had to try the cinnamon roll it was so good that I brought one back home to California and shared with my entire family. I will be back next time that I am in San Antonio. Pros: Large Portions Great Value Great Service Cons: Older building more
