On a recent visit to DC, I stopped by Kramerbooks, a recommended bookstore in the DuPont Circle area, and stayed on for lunch at the attached cafe, Afterwords. This is a restaurant that is clearly in business because it's a convenient, trendy place to eat, not because people are coming back for the food. It took a while to get seated, which is acceptable when you have a great bookstore to browse while you wait for your name to be called. But the service did not improve once I was seated. My food was okay, certainly not great, and was very expensive for what it was. I've heard they have great desserts and brunch dishes, but I'm not inclined to return.
