Kramerbooks and Afterwords Cafe has been a favorite brunch spot for my friends for a while. The blueberry pancakes are divine, the french toast is delicious, and the mimosas are perfect for pushing you back over the edge of your hangover.
The restaurant is also open late at night with fabulous desserts and coffee-liquor concoctions.
But brunch is a must.

I always make an effort to stop by Ben's when I'm on U street. Visiting this area on a Friday or Saturday night is a must, the jazz clubs are fantastic, and a quick bite at Ben's is definitely worthwhile.

This liquior store is quite possibly the only store in DC where you can find a GREAT selection of wine and spirits at reasonable prices and a knowledgable staff willing and able to answer any questions you may have. Everyone in the store is helpful and friendly, and they really know their stuff. I highly recommend going there if you're planning on throwing a big party and you need some help picking out a few good ones.

This moderately priced restaurant in Dupont Circle manages to do several things well...particularly the curries, and martinis. The food is spicy and fresh, and the atmosphere is great. Entrées are generally in the $10 range, and the menu is varied enough that you'll probably be able to find something you'll like, no matter your taste. And although Raku is pretty popular, you'll rarely have to wait more than 5 minutes for a seat. Outdoor seating is available in the warmer weather. One word of warning...parking is scarce in this neighborhood (and if you live in DC, you're well aware of this). Try to take the Red Line metro to Dupont Circle, which is just a block away. Highly recommended.

Anytime I go to Washington, especially with a group, the Marrakesh is a must-visit. They are very accommodating, even for groups of forty, with prior reservations.
The prix fixe menu is excellent - the seven courses include the most amazing lemon chicken known to man (it falls off the bones, and I've sat with people poking between the bones trying to find just one more succulent bite). I'm not a fan of the minty tea at the end (tastes like my toothpaste) but I have friends who gladly take it off my hands).
As with many such restaurants, soft drink refills (on those small, small glasses) are not free. Stick with water as your base beverage.

I recently spent a weekend in Washington, DC and was lucky enough to be introduced to Old Glory by a friend. Old Glory is located in the heart of Georgetown and has some very tasty BBQ! The menu had a fine selection from chicken to ribs and everything in between. What was a lot of fun was testing the different BBQ sauces. On each table there are about six different kinds to try and everyone could find one to fit their tastes. The corn bread and biscuits were great too.
Be prepared to wait when you get here, it was crowded. And my only complaint was that the air conditioning did not work well and it was a bit warm.
