This is the pastry shop that did our beautiful wedding cake. They did an amazing job, the guests were all raving about the cake. Amazingly decorated, each layer was a different delicious flavor. They had us come in and we tasted all their different flavors, wow-amazing cakes, really flavorful and rich. Does not come cheap, but well worth it. We couldn’t save the top layer for next year because it was too good, we ate it the next day while opening presents! Great pastry shop, highly recommended.

I don't think I've ever experienced a better sandwich before. I want to go back and order everything on the menu to find out if it's all as good as the first. I had the smoked turkey sandwich - unlike other deli shops, the turkey in this sandwich was real turkey, like the kind Mom slices right off the bird at Thanksgiving. It was served hot on a roll that was both crusty on the outside but warm and soft on the inside. The sandwich was big enough that I could save half for my lunch the next day, although my male companion finished his sandwich on the spot and was looking longingly at mine, so perhaps not for the male eaters. My only complaint about Bread Line is that it's very crowded at lunch time, and a little bit pricey. I paid about $9 for a sandwich and bottled water. For a once in a while lunch (or if someone else is footing the bill), it was definitely worth it.

This is by far one of the best places to eat in DC. The owner/cook wakes up very early to start preparing some of the best greek dishes I've had outside of Greece. The food is consistently good. Try the meatballs; they are amazing.

Whether you need to pick up a birthday cake, a cake for a dinner party, or you just want cake, Cake Love is the place to go. It's been written up many times in teh Washington Post if you want more information, but everyone I know would recommend their desserts. The store's website used to leave something to be desired, but I just checked (www.cakelove.com) and it looks like they've finally revamped it, with pictures, prices, and other information.

If you're looking for a good burrito, this is the place to go in DC. Strictly a take-out place (they have a few tables), it's also hard to find, located in an alley off 19th St NW. Owned by the same people as C.F. Folks, you'll get attitudinal service but a terrific burrito to take back to your office. They're only open for lunch, it's always crowded and the hours are limited, but it's worth the wait. You can fax your order in ahead if you're in a hurry.

When Heller's re-opened after their desperately needed renovation, I was jubilant. Then, I was on guard: how could I enjoy a new cute bakery in my neighborhood and not eat a pudding stuffed pastry everyday? To solve my dilemma, I decided to only buy small confections when I went in on the weekends to get my coffee. In truth, in my many months of sampling, none of the treats have blown me away. Perhaps it's because the treats get better as they get bigger.

More
If Reeves were open on Sunday, they'd make a lot of money from the brunch and after-church crowd. But as it is, they are only open Monday through Saturday. The best thing about Reeves is the breakfast buffet -- it's plentiful, hot, good and inexpensive, and it's not one of those places where you have to wait. The clean and basic looking dining room is downstairs and service is quick and attentive. Upstairs is the bakery, where you can buy ready made or made-to-order sweets. A great place to boost your morning. Parking is nonexistent and the downtown lots in abundance around Reeves tend to fill up quickly in the a.m., so make sure you have a parking plan when you come. The PMI garage directly across the street will probably be your best bet. The Metro Center red line stop is a half block away, at 13th and G.
