Great Yarns is Wonderful 8/23/2014

Don't know how long ago some of these folks went to Great Yarns at Ridgewoood. They taught me to knit three years ago and I absolutely love all of the staff. Very small staff but willing to answer all of my questions. Helped me for 6 hours one day when I could not seem to get rolling on a project. The two older not so great women are gone. Give them another chance! more

Very rude 8/6/2012

I have been here several times and each time I have received very rude service. While the younger employees tend to be friendlier, the older women are very rude and seem put out when you ask them to wind your hanks into a ball. I took a friend who was interested in learning to knit there and they were so rude she is put-off from the hobby, period. There are much better yarn shops in the Triangle! more

Rude service 1/23/2011

So rude I could not understand what they were saying. Walked out without buying anything even though I had gone in with the express purpose of buying needles and yarn. more

Unfriendly Yarns 12/28/2009

This is a cozy little store with a nice yarn selection, but the customer service is consistently poor. I've shopped there several times, and have always felt that I was not their preferred clientele, and that they were merely tolerating my presence in their space. There are plenty of places to spend my money; I don't think that Great Yarns will be seeing any more of it. more

Horrible customer service 10/24/2009

Getting a 1 star, cause you can't get zero. I have been in the area for 14 years and the customer service here never changes. Classes are very limited in size and they are very hesitant to do a waiting list. Passive aggressive staff and with all the opportunities on the web why shop here?! I keep hoping that their attitudes will change so I can give them my hard earned money but all the other yarn stores are benefiting from their bad service. Many folks are willing to take your hundreds of dollars for yarn and actually treat the customer well. more

Really Quite Rude 1/7/2009

They do have a very nice selection, but I will not return based on how amazingly rude they were to me on my first and second visits. Friends have experience the same treatment. It is like a club and if you don't belong.... more

Great yarn, HORRIBLE customer service 1/7/2009

This is a great store for knitting, yarn selection, etc. They also have great classes and instructors. However, the customer service is consistently horrible. I'm not sure if she is the owner, but there is one salesperson in particular who is almost always snide, rude, and resentful that you are in her store asking questions about knitting. She seems to treat each question as if it is the most stupid question anyone could ask about knitting. It is exasperating, and I HATE going in there. They seem to have a monopoly in Raleigh, however, so there's not much choice. Anyone else have these experiences? My friends concur that they have. more

Poor service regardless of race 12/19/2007

I agree with Barbara. Service has been abysmal at Great Yarns every time I go in. I cannot get anyone to wait on me and when I finally leave in frustration I get a sarcastic "Thanks for visiting" as I walk out the door. This is in spite of the fact that I have taken classes there and bought yarn and supplies in the past. Years ago this was a wonderful store. I am a white female so I I have to assume the owner(s) onnly cater to their chosen few. Barbara, try Bella Filati in Southern Pines or the yarn store in Winston-Salem. They are glad to wait on customers. more

RACIAL DISCRIMINATION 4/16/2007

I entered the store on Ridge Rd.at about 12:30PM on Monday, April 16,2007. This was my first visit to this business. The store was not crowded but there were two other customers who were offered help instantly. Within five to ten minutes the store had no other customers but me, a Black female. I was not acknowledged at all. I had to stand in the middle of the store and say," May I please get some help?" One of the employees said in a very sarcastic tone, "Why of course, how can I help you?" I was then treated with some respect. The store did not have what I needed. I sincerely feel that had I not asked for help, the two employees would have continued to ignore me.This was clearly a case of racial discrimination and I'll never shop at Great Yarns Inc. again. more

Grandmaw Loves it! 4/17/2006

Whenever my grandmother comes to visit she always wants me to take her to that "nice yarn shop" she likes to knit blankets, scarves, and everything in between and in her travels (which have been plentiful0) she likes great yarns the best. I couldnt care less about yarn, but this store is very attractively didplayed, unlike many otehr craft type shops. more

Lovely shop 12/11/2005

Great Yarns is by far my favorite yarn shop in the area. They carry a wide selection of high-quality yarns (Rowan, Cascade, Brown Sheep, Manos, and more) and have been scaling back the amount of novely yarn they carry. Recently they have added Addi turbo and Lantern Moon needles to the selection. The pattern books are neatly organized and at a shelf that makes browsing easy. Even though there is a lot of yarn in-store, the cubbies are neatly organized and there's almost a calming aspect to it (or maybe I just hit knitter's nirvana in there). They are willing to special order any color of one of their yarns, but there is a minimum # of skeins required. Store samples are plentiful; you can see how almost anything will knit up. They have an extensive class schedule, but I haven't had time to take any there yet. The service seems to have become even nicer since new ownership took over in Summer 2005. Visiting this yarn shop makes me so happy to be a knitter! more

A great experience! 9/27/2005

Great Yarns Inc is a wonderful store to find any sort of knitting, crotching or yarn-involved craft! I came here because I had heard great reviews and now am hooked! They offer classes of all levels so that if you do not know how to use yarn at all, or want to inhance your current knowledge you can find a class here! The employees are amazing and very educated in the business of yarn! I come here at least twice a month! more

This is it 8/21/2005

It does not matter whether you knit, crochet, braid, or don't even use yarn. Great Yarns has such phenomenal yarns that you could just go and look around for fun or as an education. Their colors are beautiful and there are hundreds of different types of textures. You must go to believe it! more

Every knitter's dream 8/15/2005

Great Yarn has an expansive selection of yarn crammed into every nook and cranny of this small store. Samples have been knit with most of the available yarns. The staff is excellent. They will offer advise and assist in yarn selection from any project. They sell needles and pattern books, too. Classes are also offered for any level knitter or crocheter. more
