Editorial review from Citysearch 5/29/2013

These guys stole 661.00 from me. I bought my 2001 740i in because it was overheating and misfiring. After paying the 80.00 diagnostic fee they recommended that I change the plugs and one coil. They also said I needed a few minor hoses that went to the heater valve. I said ok and proceeded. I picked up my car only to find out that they broke one of my kidney grills and had no intention of telling me. The labor on a spark plug job and couple of hoses was $363.33!!!! I could not believe it! However , the service men were very convincing and my car did seem to run fine......for 30 minutes! Then the car was right back to running like crap. After I got back to Houston my regular mechanic informed me that the plug were fouled and the intake needed gaskets. So the 80.00 diagnostics couldn't fine my issue and my 661.00 tune up was a waste because they did not diagnose the car correctly.WHAT A WASTE! I even emailed the owner Len and he said it wasn't his fault and he was not going to refund me anything. DO NOT USE THIS SHOP!!! NICE GUYS BUT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL THEY ARE DOING. LEN DOES NOT KNOW ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE. SIMPLY REFUNDING ME THE COST OF THE SPARK PLUGS AND LABOR WOULD HAVE SUFFICED. I GUESS THAT WAS TOO MUCH OF A COST TO HIM. more

Saved me time and money 2/10/2010

I used to take my car to the dealer to get the oil changed but every time there was something that 'had' to be repaired....even though my car seemed to be fine to me it always landed up costing me almost $1000 every time I'd take it in. So I decided to take it to German Auto Center and they gave me a list of maintenance and repairs they recommended, but took time to explain what needed to be done now and what could wait.....and they're WAY less expensive than the dealer ever was. Now I've been going there for almost two years. My car's done the same day and sometimes I just stay and work in their lobby - free wireless! Sophie W. Pros: knowledgeable staff, great service more

German Auto rocks! 2/10/2010

I called German Auto Center after hearing their ad on the radio, which mentioned they worked on Jaguars. Most places that do are unfriendly and overpriced, but the guys at German Auto were not only nice but helped me get my car to them, fixed it fast and for much less than the dealership was going to charge! I have gone back one other time for some warranty work and the experience was just as good. Hope they expand their business to the Hill County someday, but meanwhile they are worth the drive. Would totally recommend! Pros: experienced and considerate staff Cons: not close enough to my house more

Great Service 2/9/2010

My E320 needed new brakes. Called the dealership and German Auto Center for quotes. German Auto was 50% less than the dealership. Scheduled the service for the next day, dropped off my car, hopped in their loaner car and went to work. Svc Mgr called me 2 hrs later with an update, my car would be finished in 1 hr. Stopped in at lunch, the invoice matched the quote, and I was on my way. So easy! The next day, I received a follow up call from German Auto Center, making sure I was satisfied. Very Nice! Since my factory service warranty has expired, and German Auto is so convenient they will be taking care of my car from now on. Nice to have my car serviced without someone trying to sell me a new car or additional parts.\r \r Matt K Pros: Value & Convenience more

The Best!! 2/9/2010

I wanted to just say how wonderful my experience was with German Auto Center. Having recently moved here to Austin, I was referred to German Auto Center by a co-worker. I own two BMWs and a Mercedes Benz and German Auto Center now takes car of all of them. It is great to find someone who knows my cars as well as the dealer and treats me so wonderfully and not like a number. These guys are great!! They took the time to explain everything to me, then they told me what needed to be done now and what could wait - never had that happen at the dealer! And they did exactly what they said!! Would recommend them to anyone. Len and his team have made a customer for life! Pros: Patient, honest and do exactly what they said!! Cons: Coffee was not Starbucks, but they said they would upgrade! more

CROOKS! 12/18/2009

Never go to German Auto Center. They will try to make up all kinds of things to charge you more. This is not even in the normal car mechanic rip off up-charge. I am talking about telling me that after fixing my ignition for $500 and then telling me I need a new key and charging me $60 for that... and then... after a week and a half of trying to get my car back after it had already been fixed... they tell me that my battery is dead and I need a new one which is another $150... me: oh really, what is wrong with the battery? clay (mechanic) : Its just old. I don't know, but we have to jump it every time we try to move it around the lot. we don't think it is safe for you to drive it home like that because it could just stop working. me: That is weird because that battery is less than two years old and that is too expensive so I will just have you jump it when I pick it up and I will get a battery somewhere else. clay: umm, alright. So then I go to pick up my car and he tells some guy to ""jump his car and bring it around front"" The guy says ok and then drives my car around the corner about 40 seconds later. THE WORST(best) PART : MY BATTERY WORKS PERFECTLY FINE!!!! I have used it for a week now and even took it on a 5 hour highway road trip one day! Pros: my ignition is fixed Cons: everything else more

Top shelf customer service 5/7/2009

German Auto Center has the best customer service of any place I have ever taken my car. Their techs are the best - they really know what they're doing. Sometimes I'm not very good at articulating problems and their techs have so much experience they can always figure out what's wrong and get it fixed. I know they will be fair with me and I have come to rely on their advice and service. I have found their prices to be better than the dealer, and the customer service is unbelievable. They will take me to work and come pick me up when my car is ready, so it's never inconvenient - sometimes they have even provided a loaner car for the day when I had some appointments while my BMW was in the shop. The business changed hands last year and the new owner has a really high standard for customer service, and it shows throughout the company - everyone goes the extra mile. I highly recommend them for any kind of repair or routine maintenance on Mercedes, BMW, VW, Audi, Porsche and I think they even work on Jaguars. Pros: competent techs, convenience, very fair pricing more

Beware!! get the quote in writing before handing over keys 9/4/2007

These guys are untrustworthy. They quoted me very reasonable price when I called them. They confirmed it when I dropped the car. However, I called them for car pick up, the price was almost $300 more than before. They didn't even bother calling me to check with me. No additional work or repairs were done either.\r \r I wasn't too happy. But on top of that when I went to pick up the car, the price on the invoice was more than $200 more than the inflated price!! Upon questioning, Mitch acted baffled and sounded as if it was an ""honest"" mistake. I bet if I hadn't caught it, they would have charged it.\r \r Be very careful with these guys. Work quality is OK. Not great. But not worth it with these tactictis. I am again looking for a reliable and honest repair shop. more

Best German Car Repair Center, Auto Sales and Service, Very Knowledgable Mechanics 8/4/2007

German Auto Center is a great place to take your car for repairs. Two of the Mercedes mechanics have been there since the 1970's and the other two that work on BMW's and other makes have been in the business for a long time too. It has a more personal atmosphere; because it's locally owned and operated. \r \r If you want to look for a car, Mitch, can find you what you're looking for. He's very helpful and really knows a lot about cars. more
