In your face chipotle! 11/23/2010

I'm not really a big burrito fan at all, but I really love Freebirds. This could be why I avoided the chain Chipotle especially since I had a horrible food experience in one of the Dallas area stores. When a friend dragged me to a Freebirds, I was not excited in the least bit. I wound getting crispy tacos and their tortilla soup. It was gone within minutes and I wanted to go back for more. Their ingredients are some of the best when it comes to restaurants of this sort. Not to mention you also get to make fun foil monster sculptures and put them on display. :P more

i'm glad they won best of citysearch 11/16/2010

I've really enjoyed coming to freebirds for a while now. The food is great and you certainly get a lot of it for a great price. more

Amazing, healthful, yummy and fresh choices. I LOVE Freebirds! 8/3/2008

I always order the freebird with flour. I get lettuce, rice, black beans and one sliver of sour cream and about half a serving of cheese.\r \r The ingredients are fresh and everything is vegetarian except for the meat (beans are veggie). The staff is eclectic and work fast.\r \r Price is right and I love the frequent buyer card. Pros: great food! Cons: NOTHING! more

Awesome burritos 1/13/2008

As any Austinite or UT student knows, Freebirds has the best burritos around. If you like imposter mexican food, then Chipotle is probably for you, but if you want the real thing go for Freebirds! more

terribly dry burrittos 4/16/2007

This place is terrible. Dry burrittos and chewy tasteless tortillias. Forget the liberal sounding name, this place is a joke. Please, go to Chipotle for a good fat warm burritto. Cons: the food, the service, absolutely everything more

Awesomely Good Place for Lunch 4/3/2007

new to austin and my coworkers brought me to freebird for lunch. The line was long but the staffs were fast!\r \r Burritos are huge and i ordered a salad, their hot sauce was awesome! I actually have craving for freebird whenever i hear the commercial on radio now. Pros: Lots of choices from burritos to salad Cons: long line more

Pricy, uninspired. 2/4/2007

I have to say I didn't like the place. I'm from El Paso, and when we go to a burrito place we expect to see things like chile verde, chile colorado, carnitas, etc. Having the option to choose between beef or chicken just doesn't cut it. The sauces are not good either. I know that pico de gallo varies from region to region, but I do know that it should be spicy and tangy. For what we get, the price is quite high. I much prefer the two dollar burritos off the burrito truck at the local construction sites. Pros: Convenient location Cons: Crowded, pricey, plain more

Yum... foooood! 11/19/2006

One of the coolest things that you notice when first walking into any Freebirds, is the amount of local foil art that you see (you can be a foil artist too!). If you come to freebirds, you have to get a burrito. The burritos are pretty much customizable and the sizes can get to be HUGE. I had a friend that ordered the super monster, and he had to take a nap halfway through before he could finish it. I strongly recommend this place for non texans and for a great lunch. Pros: Huge burritos! Cons: Choices of meats (white/dark chicken and beef) seems limited to me more

BEST burrito in austin 10/20/2006

Freebirds is the place to get it, no contest. The good people at the Hancock center Freebirds have been keeping college students well fed for years. more

mmm 7/13/2006

Freebirds is my Austin comfort food. White meat chicken with rice and black beans, with cilantro, tomatoes, lettuce, lime juice, death sauce, and a ton of their ""bad *ss barbeque"" sauce. Heck yeah. Great, fast service, too. You won't need to eat again for HOURS. Pros: yummy, filling, fast service Cons: a big burrito and soda and tip will set you back more

pretty good, but not awesome 10/14/2005

First of all, the service has always been really great. Super friendly people. But I agree with another reviewer about the lack of creativity. I don't think the menu options are that special. Yeah, you have a choice between 4 types of tortillas, and it's cool that you don't have to wonder about whether the beans and rice are vegetarian (they are). But the fillings are nothing to brag about- e.g. the guacamole is made from a pre-mashed avocado mix, not fresh. Totally fresh guacamole is key. If anyone has ever been to a Burritoville in NYC, they'd probably agree that Freebirds doesn't even come close. But overall, it's a good place for vegans and carnivores alike. You definitely get a lot of food, and like I said, the servers have always been super nice. Also, if you go at off-peak hours, seating is no problem. Pros: great service, customized food, veg-friendly Cons: not enough options more

A solid burrito, but lacks style 5/29/2005

Freebirds makes a solid burrito. The ingredients are mostly solid and fresh, but the main negative at Freebirds is that they don't have any real formula and resort to the assembly-line choose your own adventure burrito. This is nice every once in a while, but shows an overall lack of creativity. If they know how to make a good burrito, why can't they make one without forcing the customer to spend 5 minutes in line picking each and every ingredient. With a little more style and a proper menu, Freebirds would be one of the better burritos in Austin. more

Freebirds! 6/12/2003

Although Austin is known for Tex/Mex there aren't many places where you can get just a burrito especially in the West Side of town. Freebirds is a smaller regional chain, unlike Chiptole, that serves big burritos. Although you won't find any exotic toppings or meats like Pork (Carnitas) that you would find at an authentic taqueria, you can order Chicken and Beef Steak burritos. On the down side, if your a carnivore, depending on your server, the server may decide to enforce his/her political views (especially if they're vegetarian) and you'll end up with a burrito with less meat than others. Pros: Large Portions, Lots of Toppings Cons: Inconsistent Portions, Long Lines more

Huge burritos 4/20/2003

If you don't mind eating a burrito the size of your head, this is the place to go. The burritos are good and are prepared uniquely and rapidly. It's a good place to get full. Pros: Huge burritos Cons: Only one location more

great cheap eats! 11/28/2002

I typically eat at Freebird's at least once a month, sometimes more. Sure, not much a of a menu (a burrito or a quesadilla) but what they serve is good enough! The long lines kept me from trying it for years, but finally got dragged there one day and am glad I braved the line (don't worry, it moves fast). Pros: fast, cheap, delicious more

The BIG Burrito 10/6/2002

The Monster, The half bird and the original freebird are all A+ meals. They have a Super Monster, but I am afraid to order it... Not because of the name, but because you already get so much food with a Monster. This is a quick food experience that is sure to flood its marketplace. Fun enviornment, good food, what's not to love? Freebirds is that college town americana that is lacking only franchise rights. We need more of these restraunts around. Go forth and reek havoc Freebirds! A+ Pros: Inexpensive, Trendy atmosphere, Incredible food Cons: Long lines, bad parking, lack of locations more
