Flat Top Grill 4/15/2006

Flat Top Grill located in Evanston, Illinois is a buffet style restaurant where you can make your own meals. You load up a bowl with your choice of rice or noodles and add your choice of vegetables. Then you add their signature sauces. In another bowl you add your choice of meats from chicken, beef, shrimp, seafood, etc. Then you bring it all to a chef and he cooks it for you on their flat top grill. It is very reasonably priced and is quite delicious. more

Great stirfry 10/29/2005

I've been to almost every Flat Top in the Chicago area, and next to the one on Washington [West Loop], this one stands out as being similarly great. Service was friendly, even giving free bowls of chips and jalapeno plum sauce. As per usual, the ingredients were fresh. Service was a bit slow on a Thursday night, but it's a huge place, which is different than other locations that are small and cozier. Still, a great place to feed your stir fry needs. more

I love the idea of this restaurant. It's fun and creative. The service was also wonderful everytime I went there. Even if you don't know what to dump in your prep bowl, it won't be an issue. They have cards where they suggest what you should gather together so it would turn out to taste good. Tip: Go there on Wednesday! A total slash on the prices! more

I like all-you-can-eat 8/14/2005

Ok, I don't exactly know what to call this type of cuisine, but it is a genious idea, and I would start one of my own if I had the capital. It's basically a make-your-own-stir-fry place. You prepare all of the vegetables, sauces, meat, and noodles that you want in it, hand it to the chef, and they cook it for you. You can get one dish for i think $10, and all you can eat dishes for $11. I can never complain about the food, not just because it is always good (which it is) but because I designed it myself. The service is quick, but the place is very busy. more

Good food...when it's cooked properly 8/4/2005

I had a pretty bad experience at Flat Top. It's an all-you-can-eat sort of a Mongolian BBQ restaurant where the cooks prepeare your food on a huge grill in front of everyone. Naturally they're always in a hurry given the long lines, so you have to watch out for food that is not completely cooked. I got food poisoning within hours of eating there the last time. That kind of negative experience stays with you even after the sickness passes. more

Buffet 6/29/2005

This is a one of a kind restaurant where you can make your own dish to your liking. They cook it up for you and serve it to you. You add the vegetables, the sauce and rice/ noodles. However much you like and add as much meat as you like. Before they didn't charge you extra for shrimp, just had a limit, but know you do. more
