A living, breathing 75 year old Art Center thrives and grows in 2006 and breathes life into the community. Upon approaching the grounds to this historic landmark you can feel yourself go back to a less complicated time. Housed in an old English style mansion built on the lakefront, allowed the original owners the priviledge of having their own private beach. The beach section is now open to the public. This facility offers classes from every art media they can think of including painting, drawings, ceramics and sculpting.
PROS: Beautiful grounds and mansion, lakefront setting
CONS: Limited parking

Not only is this one of the best universities in Chicago, but it is also known to be one of the best in the entire nation. This prestigious school has lots to offer for students -- a very professional set of profesors, an intelligent student body, lots of social activities, including clubs and sports, and a beautiful campus. It is a very competitive school and it is easy to see why. This school is situated right along the lake and the experience at this school is wonderful. This is definitely a great place to get a quality education at in Chicago!

The person writing the review above must be mixing up the Child Care Center of Evanston with another school. CCC of Evanston doesn't have babies so that right there should tell you that review should be disregarded.
I can speak from experience about this school. It is an excellent school with dedicated staff. Everyone there is interested in what is best for children. It is a very loving environment where children are learning all the time.

I go to Pivot Point to get my hair cut occasionally and they only charge $7.50. the hair cutters are student but they are just as good as anybody else. Sometimes it takes long here because you might get a beginner and other times its not that bad because you might get someone who is a little more trained and is about to graduate. Plus they wash your hair really well and thats included in the $7.50.

More
I have two children at Baker; one in kindergarten and one in first grade. My son's 1st teacher Dr. Bridgman has created a learning environment that makes my child say that he loves school and wants to write and read. The environment Dr. Bridgman has created is wonderful - although my son's math skills are above his grade level he is just starting to read on his own. There is no doubt in my mind that Baker Demonstration School nurtures each child to become a creative, confident and reflective learner, strong in mind, body and heart.
Both my son’s have small class sizes which have a teacher and an assistant teacher(s). The new classrooms have a drinking fountain, all new equipment – every inch of the classroom has been designed to facilitate learning. The school has brand new facilities - lunch room, library, playground, etc.
My younger son's kindergarten class sends projects home every day. The librarian (who is a published author of child books) sent home this note with my son a couple of days ago:
Dear family,
Today in library we read about BEES!
The Bee’s Sneeze by Ellis Nadler
The Big Honey Hunt by Stan and Jan Berenstain
The Honeybee and the Robber by Eric Carle
We learned many interesting things, like how bees live in hives and do a little dance to share where the nectar can be found. We also learned that bees can protect themselves.
Then we made our own bee puppets, so we can tell our own stories about bees using our imaginations!
Hope this welcome storytime helps children to see that reading is sweet as honey!
Happily ever after,
Mme. Esme (school librarian)
Baker students think independently, engage collaboratively, make connections across disciplines, realize their talents and apply their learning beyond school. Baker’s inclusive community celebrates individual, family and cultural differences. Baker serves an ever-changing world through research-based curriculum that promotes academic excellence through active inquiry, exploration and continual innovation by our entire learning community.

I have heard from many friends that this school is excellent with low teacher/child ratios and with their high quality education. All my friends who send their children there are extremely happy and we are waiting for our toddler to get old enough to go there. The only down side is the high tuition or the toddler program and your child should be at least 24 months old at the beginning of the school year.

Northwestern University has mini-courses for both University students and non-students. They are offered a couple times during the year, and aren't too expensive. I took a belly-dancing class, and found it to be a nice introduction. They have academic, craft, and dance classes as well as some random ones like billiards and bartending.
It's worth checking out if you're looking for a new interest/hobby.

"They teach you to celebrate your individuality." That quote is from Evanston's own, John Cusack. (Yes, anyone who knows me is well aware of my affection for Mr. C). I love his movies, love his politics and am quite fond of pretty much all that is John Cusack.
JC is very familiar with this workshop because he is close friends with the Piven family. (Jeremey of course is also a big star and a great actor). The Piven Workshop is a wonderful facility that trains up and coming thespians, and develops and nurtures the inner star in you. They have a solid and impressive theater program and a very impressive website (www.piventheatre.org). You may want to check them out.

I have been to School for Little Children for a tour and really liked the place and the people. Seemed like a nurturing environment for a child, clean and organized. Friendly staff, prices were reasonable. They have infant care at a seperate location also. I would seriously consider for my infant or toddler. Great location too. I would recommend for people looking for good quality at reasonable prices.

The YMCA has a huge day care center for children of all ages and my child has been attending there for over two months. They are good at covering the basics but the quality is below my expectations (especially for the price). The place is kind of disorganized and crowded. I don't recommend it. Look into all your options before settling on the YNCA.
