I stumbled upon this hidden cafe next to a jiffy lube by accident. Stepping inside you are transported into a quiet oasis with foliage, fountains and frittatas. It feels more like a nursery than a cafe. The breakfast menu is highlighted by various types of frittatas- I tried the frittata verona, which while not amazing was light yet filling. I have never written a Citysearch review, but I was compelled to write one because I was very surprised by the less than positive reviews below. I have lived in Europe and travelled a good deal, and though it is subjective, I feel like I have a good idea of what good food is like. I think this place is amazing for the price. Very tasty soups and pastas... everything I've had is good here...in kind of that home style authentic Italian trattoria way (in Italy, not Italian American). Everything was fresh and pleasantly presented. It's not a ""fine dining experience"", but it is home style gourmet. HIghly recommended. And the waiters are very nice. more

very comfy, low-key -- but even a bit romantic -- place, and reasonable prices. but the food was nothing to come back for. Minestrone soup was bland and was more like a thick tomato broth with a few very wilted vegetables, no beans (although some make it without fagioli, it should have something else hearty). Mediterranean salad was an attack of heavily oiled eggplant and roasted peppers far outnumbering the mixed greens, way too heavy and too much to digest and a very imbalanced plate. The veggie lasagna was fine, nothing special, also very heavy on the cheese, not much spinach or veggie. service was pleasant, brought me parmesan for the soup, and more olive oil, but all in all it felt like the food could have been ordered and assembled from Trader Joe's down the block. more

I happened to visit Cafe Verona during the week at a not so busy time and happened to be the only other person dining there other than a group of girls that sat at the table next to me. The weighting staff took really good care of me, checking up several times to make sure everything was alright. I read several complaints in previous reviews that the service has been really bad here but I had no complaints with my experience, although I was one of the two people lunching at the time so they were able to give their undivided attention and service to me. The atmosphere was really charming but I was expecting a lot more when I first arrived. I didn?t expect the establishment to be apart of the same building that the jiffy lube was housed in and that the whole place was patio dining only. I noticed the establishment had placed Plexiglas, plants and shrubbery around the patio to keep out the noise of La Brea Blvd but to no avail. I ordered the Verona frittata which was mediocre; nothing mind blowing. I ended up ordering a vanilla latte on ice, to-go, and it was probably one of the best lattes that I?ve ever had in Los Angeles. You should def. check this place out. Every time I have gone, I have been treated well. Great food, great service. Family owned. \r \r Most of the negative ratings are from years ago, because I have never experienced anything bad and I have been over a dozen times. The patio is the big draw here (and there's nowhere else to sit but on the patio). The menu is all over the place with breakfast frittatas, paninis, and pasta, but each item has its own unique flair. I wish they served bread with the frittatas, otherwise they are a great break from ham and eggs. I'll definitely go back to try one of their paninis. Pros: Funky decor and relaxed atmosphere. I live around the corner but did not notice this lovely, hidden, cozy cafe for several years - now it is my weekend morning staple. Whenever I take friends they sing rave reviews and herald my good taste. The owner is always on hand making sure that the diners are content & I am yet to try a dish I did not love - from the goat cheese pinenut salads to the truffle oil infused frittata. With walls of foliage, mountains of fresh fruits and vegtables by the seating areas and a coy pond and fountains in teh background, you feel for one moment like you are not in L.A and you thank god you were not so dumb as to be standing in line at Toast or Doughboys. I only hesitate to write this review because I consider my little secret, nonthess, I hope to see you there. more

I fell for this place several months ago. The charm, the intimacy, the food.. I could put on 20 pounds a week on their paninis alone if I lunched there daily. I usually go lunchtime on weekdays and have never had bad service. On the contrary, the waiters were charming, attentive and fun. Maybe crowded weekends bring out the worst..but its hard for me to imagine that. The funky outdoor setting is shielded from the LaBrea mayhem by large plantings......almost like dining on a friend's intimate patio. more

Old hag is rude when you call in an has a attitude and doesn't really understand what on is say its like she's retarded or something. But getting to the goods the food is great and you should try the panini and I recommend it for couple. Sevice is horrible but don't worry your mony is worth it.kind of. Seems like Cafe Verona is bigoted towards anyone who isn't caucasian. Service was disgusting, the waiters were incredibly rude and on top of it all, the food was disgusting. Elegantly put, the place is trashy. more

It's my very favorite place to eat in L.A. Whether I'm just going for iced mocha or having dinner, this is my first choice when I want to spend a little bit more than I could afford as an every-day place, but quite a bit less than I'd have to spend at those highly rated Italian restaurants.\r \r If we all had access to a garden space like this, there would be more peace in our lives.\r \r If their vegetarian panini with their salad were he only thing on the menu, I'd still keep going.\r \r I've never had problems with a long wait for service there; I don't think so, but then, it's such a wonderful place to sit, why would anyone mind?\r \r The workers, being both Italian and friendly, answer all my questions. I've always gone to this place for breakfast/brunch...The frittatas are great and the hot chocolate doesn't taste like water like everywhere else!! Amazing! I have been there twice now... once for sunday brunch, and once for lunch while I was waiting for my oil to be changed next door. I dont know what everyone is saying about poor service - I had a woman who was more accomodating than anyone I've ever dealt with. The sandwich was to die for, and their fruit and cream cheese stuffed french toast is off the hook. After passing this quaint place many times, my boyfriend and I finally decided to try it for lunch. Upon walking in I was so excited to find this beautiful, quiet little place right off of such a busy street! We both ordered pasta and after waiting for almost an hour, we finally got up and left! The waiter was rude and didn't seem to care at all, forgetting to bring drinks and seeming insulted when we repeatedly reminded him we had none! Even though it's located on a busy street corner, the enclosed and greenery-covered front patio is cozy and quiet. I've been several times with at least 3-4 other people, and everyone has always enjoyed their meal--omelettes, salads, panini. The salads are especially delicious and fresh. A friend took me to lunch here once and I didn't know what to expect, especially since it was barely visible from the busy LaBrea street it faces and its directly next to an oil change station. I was in for a major surprise. You step into the small-ish patio to eat and you forget you're facing one of the busiest streets in LA and are next to an oil change station. The ambience is romantic and relaxing. You can imagine you're in a secret garden, having a mushroom fritatta (my favorite) and a cappuccino. I noticed for a self described ""coffee shop"" they use great plates and silverware. I think this only adds to the general care and love that obviously went into planning this restaurant.
