this is not a restaurant where everything on the menu is good, however if you are looking for an authentic melt-in-your-mouth steak, this is the place. and the atmosphere is certainly of a style that may not appeal to all, but i find it charming and nostalgic with the gruff and elderly waiters, the formica tables and the lack of pretense. stick to steak and potatoes and you won't be disappointed.
Pros: delicious steak, an iconic establishment
Cons: don't order anything else off the menu

very nice people!!! I ordered a small salad and a cupcake this last visit (i've been there 3 times) and I forgot my wallet and they were so nice as to tell me to bring it next time.
The cupcakes are always fresh and yummy (wait, not yummy because yummy's cupcakes are nasty) the salad was tasty and unique.
I will go back again and again. very nice people and the food is tasty.

The food at BLD is excellent! The quality and freshness of everything was very surprising. I was recommended to go to BLD by a friend, I read reviews here first and was surprised at the negative reviews. My experience was fantastic. The staff was very responsive and knowledgeable, the food took a reasonable amount of time to order/serve... probably about 15-20 minutes. At the end of the dinner I commented to the waitress about reading some negative reviews on citysearch etc and quickly followed up by saying how amazing my experience was. She told me that they got a new Chef in October, maybe the negative reviews were because of some transition in Chefs, or management?
I think my entree was $20 and my date's was about the same, we got a few glasses of wine, appetizers, and desert and the bill was around $120. I think that is very reasonable, I was expecting to pay more.
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone I knew, maybe not a "food snob" because you can never please them.
Pros: Service, ambience, quality delicious food
Cons: my date, but that's not their fault.

If you don?t like this place then you have no business ever going to a restaurant again. I have been to many Italian restaurants all over the U.S. and La Terza has to be in my top five. The food is authentic Italian and the hospitality is nothing short of perfect. For those of you that did not have a great experience I strongly suggest that you give it another try.
Pros: Great Wine Selection
Cons: Some Noise Polution From the Street

John O’ Groats is simply lovely. (Said in a Scottish accent)
So, I go out to lunch only about once or twice a week. Yes, I actually bring my lunch to work the other days. Usually some bland salad or soup or something extremely healthy. How else can I avoid becoming as big as a house?
I usually go out with “Nancy” of “Sid and Nancy” and “Grace Slick.” I usually have referred to Grace Slick as A.V. in the past, but, as she’s a bit crazy (in a good way) I think I’ve found a better name for her.
“One pill makes you smaller…”
SO. I ordered the Vegetarian Hash and Cilantro Potato Pancakes.
Good and Yum.
Who in their right mind does not like a potato pancake?? I don’t think I even want to know. I certainly wouldn’t want to become friends with them, nor would I recomend them for jobs or bank loans.
Anyway, the pancakes are basically delicious fried cilantro-infused mashed potato patties which are MILES above your typical dry as a bone latkes.
The vegetarian hash was just sauteed vegetables. I was hoping for a bit more. But I still enjoy sauteed vegetables, so here’s what I did:
Smashed the entire plate up into one big delicious potatoey pile of sloppy goodness.
Then, it became the perfect dish.
Oh! I also added the obligatory ketchup and hot sauce on top! Consider yourself lucky I did not capture the final product in a photo, as it no longer appeared edible.
Breakfast is what this place is famous for. In fact, while we were waiting for a table, some lady (who had a little too much face work done) asked me what she should order and I told her “Get the Huevos O’ Groats and a better surgeon!”
Let’s see…what else… the service is great, everyone here is so freaking nice.
If you want the opposite, go to Factor’s Deli on Pico where the woman with the grey mullet will literally roll her eyes and sigh deeply if you’re not ready to order when she is!

I've been going to Marco's for some 15 years now, beginning when it was run by Marco's mother. She would seat us as if we were guests in her home. Although "Mama Marco" (as we always call her) is no longer with us, I still feel her presence every time we enter the restaurant. Water, foccacia and menus all show up almost as soon as we're seated. "May I get you a beverage?" is one of the first things we hear. No "my-name-is-Steevan- and-I'll-be-your-waiter", but instead a more-personal "how are you this evening?"
From the fresh foccacia with tomatoes, then to minestrone soup and Caesar salad, and then the main course (hmm...what tonight? Lasagna? Pizza? Ravioli, spaghetti, chicken piccata?) Everything I've ordered is delicious, which makes it hard to decide. I often choose lasagna bolognese - I love lasagna but it's really time-consuming to make at home, and this is probably better than mine anyway... Their portion is so generous that i often take half home and have it for lunch the next day. My boyfriend loves their meat ravioli in bolognese sauce, always asking our waiter for "extra, extra" sauce.
Last night it was pizza - medium crust, "Mama's Special". Really delicious, very filling. After soup and salad, we couldn't finish it and took half home - which we reheated and devoured for a midnight snack.
Everything - bread, tomato sauce, iced tea, tiramisu - tastes freshly-made. That's why I could eat here a couple of times a week and not tire of it.
L.A. may be a food 'scene', but Marco's isn't part of any 'scene'. Good food, made from scratch, with a warm staff. It's like eating in my grandmother's home, but without the guilt.
Pros: Delicious, fresh food. Free parking (!!) Relaxed, unpretentious. Small and intimate. Patio available.
Cons: Landlord (Walgreen's) wants to tear down and build a drugstore, so no improvements to the premises for a while now.
