We found this resutrant by chance in Union Square and loved the food. We were looking for a great sit down breakfast place and this seemed to be the only one as tourists we could...

Worst

The breakfast food was overpriced and boring. Plain wheat sandwich bread for french toast in San Francisco? Was I at Dennys? Service was non-existent despite the cafe being emp...

Suggested to us by our hotel staff. Was not disappointed. Soups are homemade. Clam chowder and pumpkin soup were awesome. Nice selection of sandwiches and comfort food. Homemade desserts looked good but we were too full to try! more

We found this cafe a few years ago when we visited San Francisco for MacWorld and have been going here ever since. The food is awesome. We've never had anything that we didn't like. Occasionally they can get pretty busy and the service suffers a little. Overall though we think it's nearly perfect. more

Went here for the first time tonight. after seeing a movie at the metreon we were looking for a small place not too fancy or pricey or a tourist trap. I had the New York Steak with veggies and pumpkin soup. Food was excellent for the price and was just as good as some high end places I've been to in the area INCLUDING Morton's. The staff was very attentive.\r Bottom line-fresh tasty food in a casual atmosphere more

I recently enjoyed brunch at Cafe Mason with a group of a dozen friends. My response to the experience is ""Wow!"". Everyone in our party more than enjoyed their dining selection. All of the Benedicts are super. The service was A+; the kitchen was working overtime to get our plates out in record time. more

We so enjoyed our lunch here. The cilantro basil pesto on the Vegetali sandwich was amazing. The bread was tasty and fresh. The house vinegarette dressing on the side salad was also very good. Great service as well. I would definitely return for either breakfast or lunch and would recommend this restaurant to friends and family. more

It's a great diner, need I say more. The food was very good, service was good and ambiance was excellent. It was one of those breakfast places where you feel like at home. more

We stopped in for dinner after arriving from a long flight and checking into the King George right next door, but we wanted a drink and this has only beer and wine, so we left. We went back a few days later for Sunday breakfast. We had to wait 10 or 15 minutes and took two stools at the counter. Very good breakfast; a better bet than Lori's, on the other side of the hotel. more

Cafe Mason is near Union Square. Good seating and service. We ate there several nights. Lots of reasonably priced dinners. I liked the roast pork loin and the chicken Jerusalem. My wife liked the Ravioli au roguefort, very rich and filling. Good selection of wines by the glass for $7.00 or so. We walked in several times without reservations. more

Excellent food and great service. We stumbled across this restaurant for dinner and were not dissappointed. We struggled to find something which was a reasonable price around Union Square, and found Cafe Mason down and side street. The portions were huge, and very tasty. Would recommend eating here. more

Sat at the counter since they had a wait. Very efficient service Stephanie took our order and within twelve minutes our breakfast was served. Presented well and nice and fresh. All condiments served without asking for any additional items . Fast, friendly and good service! more

Stumbled upon Cafe Mason based on the proximity to the Hilton. It was just little ol brave me and the two kids (4 & 11mo)\r \r I was given an exact wait time (3 mins) and was seated promptly. The waitress was so kind and friendly to us despite having two young ones and took the time to talk to my 4 year old and make her feel special.\r \r The menu had some good looking options but with the two young ones I decided to stick to more traditional breakfast. Corned beef hash, scrambled eggs, toast, fruit, banana bread and half an avocado. Everything was great and served up quickly and the portion was bigger than Mel's Diner and enough for myself and the two small eaters for $24.\r \r We were in and out within less than an hour. \r \r I'd definitely go again. more

My husband and I arrived late at our hotel and were told of 3 restaurants still open that late but it was suggested we try Cafe Mason. My husband tried Potato Dumplings and I had Beef Bourguignon. It was the first time trying any of those two dishes. We absolutely loved the Beef Bourguignon. We took some to our hotel room & ate the rest of it in the morning - still delicious. Our waitress Daria was very pleasant and professional.. Before we left two days later, we stopped in again and both of us had the Beef Bourguignon. Our waitress Elena was also very pleasant. Can't believe the bad reviews I have been reading. If anyone wants to try new dishes - try this - believe me you will savor every bite. more

I loved, loved the crab and shrimp benedict. We were in town for my birthday weekend, and ate at Cafe Mason twice. I think I enjoyed my food more than my date. But as I said...I loved it! more
