I really enjoyed the Thursday night drag show this place had. It used to attract all kinds. But they stopped running int a few weeks ago.

B&B’s is the home of what other places call the citywide special. A can of PBR and a shot of jack for $3. You can’t beat that. The place has lots of PBR paraphernalia on the walls and always attracts a good crowd. I’ve been there a few times to see the ever entertaining dumpsta players (www.dumpstaplayers.org). The weekends can get a little crowded. more

Classic Philly Dive Bar 8/15/2005

Those who want a unique experience (ie, not one designed by Stephen Starr) or a cheap night out should consider one of Philly's finest dive bars - Bob & Barbara's. The special (every night, all the time) is what it is most famous for - three bucks gets you a can of PBR and a shot of PBR (which means ten bucks gets you an intimate encounter with the floor). It's also famous for the Thursday drag shows which bring some of Philly's best drag queens out which costs a small cover but goes towards your first drunk. The clientele range from the strange to the young professional and everywhere in between. It also has several pingpong tables (with rather long signup waitlists usually) for bar entertainment which is, I believe, free. I often start the night at other places and end up at Bob & Barbara's - it's like a trip to your wild college friend's apartment, the one who decorated with beer cans. And it's a warm environment, the Cheers for the drunk, rowdy, and drag queen-y set. more

  • The Scene
In the afternoon, this weathered spot is filled with older regulars drinking until their faces touch the bar's cracked, red vinyl padding. At night, it becomes a hub of multiculturalism with the same daytime folks rubbing shoulders with drag queens, lawyers and students. Nate Wiley and the Crowd Pleasers perform three nights a week. Thursdays feature the city's longest-running drag show, while the rest of the week is rounded out by singer-songwriters, bands and DJs.
