Portland is a town that loves its Thai/Vietnamese/Cambodian, etc, so after moving here it took quite a while to find good Chinese. Now, there are many kinds of Chinese food, and I'm pretty picky. I prefer the San Francisco style, which is not authentic Chinese from China but there you have it. It's what I like, and it's what I finally found at August Moon after a long, sad search of almost a year. These are the flavors I grew up on as a kid and are therefore my comfort food: lo mein, fried rice, egg rolls, and especially egg drop soup. This is the best egg drop soup in town, hands down. It's flavorful, the perfect consistency (not too watery, not too thick) and doesn't have extra ""stuff"" in it to mess with the utter simplicity of the soup. We've also been pleased to find white meat chicken in a number of dishes, something very unusual in Chinese takeout (if you're going to deep-fry it and cover it with sauce anyway, why use the more expensive white meat, right?) They are always fast with sit-down orders and with takeout, but I wouldn't recommend getting delivery during peak dinner hours on weekends--they don't have many drivers and if someone gets lost the wait time can be much longer than quoted. I have no idea what one of the other reviewers was saying about a rude waitress--most of the staff don't even have a firm grasp of the language (hard to be a smart aleck when you don't speak the language well), and I've always found them perfectly courteous.
Pros: Great San Francisco style Chinese, prompt service for sit-down and takeout
Cons: Delivery can be slow during weekend dinnertime
