The Excellent and the needs some work 10/3/2009

Good: Lots of merchandise and a very good cause. Some staff/volunteers very helpful and dedicated but others need a lot of work. My comments are meant to help them improve because they are doing a great service. I go there for crickets all the time.. Bad: I think the staff needs some courtesy and work-ethic training. Staff can be rude. I see them leaning and socializing when there are cat boxes and other things that need to be cleaned right next to them. Staff sometimes complains too much (tired, bad day, etc). Too much merchandise too little space. Aisles need to be kept clear. Cats are often not labeled as to name, age, sex, etc. and most staff don't know their info. They often do adoptions in the way of other customers. Front desk like everywhere is messy. Improvements: Better employee customer service training and addressing work ethic issues. Less merchandise or fewer cats. Better and more organized cleaning regimen obviously. Better enclosure labeling. May need better management of their volunteer program/staff.. Other: None of this would stop me from visiting them, buying supplies there or adopting from them. I may volunteer myself someday since it looks like they need help. Do visit and support them. Hope they read this. more

A pet store with people that know and love animals! 6/10/2006

This AIN'T no Petco!!!! First thing you notice about Animal Talk is that the place is clean and does not smell of dirty cages. Second thing you notice is that it is the same gals that were there the last time you were there - the people that own the business appear to run the business. This makes a bigger difference than you might think. At Petco you get whoknowswho who knows little or nothing about the animal you are buying. Well, that assumes someone is working there besides the cashier. Anyway, to get back to Animal Talk. They take very good - I mean VERY GOOD care of the animals they have in their store. It is not just inventory to them. And, they have a really super rescue service, too. Finally, I mentioned about how they love their animals... When we bought my daughter a couple little baby rats (sorry Cathy) the lady who had taken care of them since they came into the store kissed them goodbye. Now, before you think (scream?), "EWWWW," you have to realize these are the smartest, cleanest, sweetest rodent pets you can have. If you don't believe me, ask a small animal vet. I digress. Anyway, we love Animal Talk. more

A great independent pet store 3/1/2006

Animal Talk is a great store. They have pet food, supplies, accessories, and a small selection of animals, both for adoption and for purchase. They even mix and make some of their own pet food, which is fresh and probably much healthier than the boxed or canned stuff on the shelf. They're very knowledgeable and take way better care of their animals than a big store like Petco, and the prices are quite comparable. After my Petco-purchased hamster died (after three days) I went to Animal Talk and got a cute hamster that grew into a cute and large hamster and lived for over two years. Strongly recommended! more

If you're looking to adopt a pet..... 8/18/2005

Animal talk is a very small organization that takes in stray cats and other small pets. They have a very organized volunteer program for those interested in becoming a foster parent. They also have rabbits, ferrets, rats, and other rodents if you're looking for a smaller pet to adopt. The fees are affordable, and the people that work there are helpful and take their work seriously. They have a good selection of pet foods and products and some fish and frogs.
