Overpriced and overly rich Indian food 7/18/2010

- Aloo Peas Samosa: Kind of greasy & not very crispy. - Badam Bhara Baingan: Large slices of tender eggplant w/ a very spicy sauce on top. May order it again, would ask for less spicy. - Lasooni Saag Panee: Spinach & cheese. Not very interesting. - Asparagus & Cauliflower Balchao: So so dish; again very rich. - Dal Amber: Very flavorful dish, full of spices. Unfortunately it had too much cream. - Kashmiri Roganjosh: Lamb stew, our favorite! So delicious & the meat was not fatty. - Butter chicken: No kidding about the rich tomato sauce, it was mostly cream. 3,000 cal? - Sea Bass Kokum Curry: The fish was okay but again…way too rich. The service was fine, once we got someone to wait on us. We’d go back again & get the lamb & maybe try out a Tandoor dish. The vegetarian dishes here are definitely not that healthy. Pros: The settings Cons: Expensive and way too rich food more

Cherie Beasley Review 12/11/2009

Amber India is easily the best Indian restaurant in San Francisco. I believe Amber is a chain, but the others are nowhere near as fabulous. The service is excellent, and more importantly, the food is amazing. Try the 4 chili rubbed sea bass--could not be any better. :-) Pros: Amazing Sea Bass Cons: As always in SF, no parking more

Chill atmosphere, great cocktails 5/20/2009

Was desperatly searching for a decent place for drinks and appetisers around the Market, Powell St. area, and was told by everyone there is nothing but high priced hotel bars or low quality tourist restaurants. Well apparantly they had never been to Amber India! This is a little gem right near the mall in a courtyard just off of Market. AMAZING happy hour deals! High quality cocktails (not a mix) for $5, and excellent selection of dishes also for a great price, and good for vegetarians and meat eaters alike! The bartenders/servers were very cool and made lots of suggestions (I had only had Indian food once before) and I even noticed they gave a small ""tasting"" plate to a couple sitting at the next table who were having a hard time ordering. I will certainly go here again. Recomend the ""butter chicken"" with naan and rice. and there was another dish made with puffed wheat and mango--don't remember what it was called, but we all loved it. Spicy sweet. Pros: Easy location, great happy hour prices, great drinks. Cons: Small tables in the lounge make it hard for multiple plates. more

Great happy hour 10/23/2008

Wonderful cuisine, but I loved the cocktails the best! They really know how to mix a smart beverage. Pros: Drinks more

Best Indian in SOMA 7/7/2008

The decor is eye catching. The food was spicy and perfect. The service is friendly, and the bar is engaging, and the bartenders are very helpful and fun. Go there!! Couldn't be a better spot for happy hour for Indian or just happy hour. Perfectly snuggled in the middle of the city. Kudos!! Pros: Food. Drinks Great Service. Bartenders are fun Cons: Not really a negative thinker more
