Great food, terrible service 12/23/2010

I've been to the Harvest Vine several times and the food is consistently excellent. Last night, however, we received indifferent, inattentive service that really affected our enjoyment of the evening. Orders were forgotten, interactions were brusque - and our server seemed as though he always had somewhere more important to be. It goes without saying (but I'll say it anyway in the hopes that the restaurant makes a change) that this kind of service is completely unacceptable at a place like the Harvest Vine. Very disappointing. I don't think I'll be going back for quite some time. more

Superb food - for Millionaires 10/12/2010

And were I millionaire, I would eat here once or twice a week. The food is extraordinarily good - and as a Madrilena, I know what I'm talking about. Have never had a bad mouthful and have had many that made me swoon with delight. The word ""mouthful"" is very relevant here, however - courses are expensive and very, very small. Put aside a small fortune, or don't come hungry. Timing between courses is long. Provided that you expect this and are with good friends / conversationalists, this can be really delightful. Service is extraordinarily variable. The wine list is good, though mark-ups have become very, very high. (Corkage fee: $30 and even so, worth keeping in mind.) Money no object? You'd be hard pressed to choose a better place in Seattle. Sit upstairs at a table or at the bar. Drink beautiful wine, eat mouthfuls of delectable food and relax into perfect pleasure. more

Absolutely Spectacular! 9/15/2010

I really don't know where to begin raving about how much I love this place. We had reservations for 7:00 and everything went perfect from the moment we walked in the door. There were four of us and we all love food. The group I was with has pretty high expectations when we go to a nice restaurant, and I can honestly say nobody was disappointed. Every single course we ordered was prepared perfectly! From the venison or squid to the four desserts we shared. The service was also spectacular. Our server was aware and helpful with all of our selections. His input regarding the wine was a tremendous help too. Everyone at our table went home extremely satisfied. The harvest Vine is not cheap, but the quality of the food and service far outweigh the cost of the dinner. If you ever want to splurge a little the Harvest Vine should not be missed. more

If you want bad service here it is! 4/4/2010

First time there, we had a party of 9. We asked our waitress for help to make sure we had enough food. Well needless to say, 3.5 hours later we were asking for bread to fill our stomachs. Between each serving there was a wait time of over 30 minutes! With no feedback from our waitress as to why. When we discussed the lack of food to our server, she simply stated we should of known. When we reminded her we asked her for help she said oh and walked away!Staff was rude and very unprofesional. Pros: Wine Cons: Everything but the wine more

Sit at the bar! 3/19/2010

We went to Harvest Vine almost by accident last night and we will definitely be back! We sat right down at the counter across from the line chefs and had a great time sipping wine, chatting with the chefs and enjoying our meal. Everything was great - from the smoked duck to the rhubarb tartlet we had for dessert. This is a traditional tapas place in the Spanish sense - which means that the food comes out as prepared, probably at more irregular intervals than some might be happy with. But if you can relax and enjoy the show, you will have a memorable dining experience. Pros: Fantastic cuisine Cons: Probably not great if in a hurry more

Horrible for Groups and Don't Order Coffee! 3/18/2010

My review was posted through my iphone and it posted with 5 stars.. I'm reposting it. Pros: Food Cons: Service, Service, Service more

Not good for groups and don't order coffee 3/15/2010

We were so excited to go here last night. It was my birthday, and a rare night out without the kids. Sadly, our experience was very dissapointing. The service was horrible. At first we were rushed, and then later in the night forgotten about. We of course relied on our server to guide us through ordering to make sure we were ordering enough for our group of 7. What we got was 8 dishes (2 were cold apps) that were big enough for one bite each. And it took 3 HOURS for the food to come. Easily 20 min between each plate. No communication from our server, no refill on our waters, she ignored us. After 3 hours we were starving! We spoke to the manager who apologized, brought out some salted meat and a couple desserts... but still included the 18 perc grat. We all had to get back home, starving, and went through the drive through. Not exactly the night I had in mind. I really did enjoy the 8 bites of food I had, the chef is great. Funny though- my brother ordered coffee early in the evening (he has a newborn) and they almost wouldn't serve him. It is against their policy to do so (per the manager) so don't go tired (or hungry). more

Yum! And Tres Romantique! 2/10/2010

Yum. A single word. Beet salad with the perfect combination of red and yellow beets in a tangy vinegar and oil and lovely crusted fresh bread. We also nibbled on a salty cod shredded and mixed with ? I couldn't tell but the crunch and season of the light batter was the perfect compliment to whatever the cod was hanging out with! Pros: Atmosphere, Wine Selection, Nosh Cons: Hard to get a table if you just walk-in. more

Poor Service + Lack of Manager = Disapponting Night 6/8/2009

I hosted a birthday dinner for 12 friends on a Saturday night. I made the reservation a month in advance and reconfirmed that afternoon. Yet, somehow, when we arrive at the restaurant the table is set for 10. Strike 1. Pros: Food Cons: Kitchen Service Staff, management staff more

Attitude 7/24/2008

I heard good things about this place and we went there for my wife's birthday. It was a Wednesday and they were slammed. This a good thing in my book as long as the waitstaff doesn't have an attitude. We learned the hard way you have to have a reservation (yes, even on a Wednesday) to get their attention. Otherwise the servers look right through you. No host/manager to guide you through either. All I need to be told is that there isn't any availability, not be ignored. more

Excellent food and a great spot! 7/7/2008

I love this restaurant and go there quite often. The food is always good and if you sit upstairs you can watch the kitchen at work. I will say that the service can be a little spotty, but the food more then makes up for it. Try the octopus, it's my favorite. more

Thank goodness I had a good date with me 6/10/2008

We ordered Beet Salad, Cheese Plate, Tuna Belly, and the Scallops. They apparently lost our ticket, and our Cheese Plate went missing for over an hour. They Comped it, which helped, but we were starving and of course drank several glasses of wine without any food or bread. We were downstairs, and felt like we were the poor orphans locked up in the basement. No attention what so ever.... We were glad that we had each other, because we got no conversation from anyone in the restaurant and had to flag down our server to get the next course.... Pros: Intimate seating, nice lighting, inventive menu Cons: Apparently no manager on duty more

The most expensive scallops I've ever eaten 4/22/2008

I went to Harvest Vine after hearing great things about it and was disappointed by the experience overall. I will say, the food was delicious, what little of it we received. We ordered 7 dishes for our party of 3, and each came out separately. We ate cheese, then we ate spinach, then we ate asparagus, then we ate scallops, etc. It would have been nice to have the dishes come together so that a side of spinach is not your main dish. The server pretty much ignored us all night, although the bussers were very diligent in keeping our water glasses full. So, the scallops - they were delicious, but for $17 we received 2 scallops. Since we were a party of 3, sadly, we had to split the 2 scallops between us. A mere bite each. more

Do not go there hungry. 3/16/2008

The service must have improved greatly since the other reviews were written. The portions were small. Let me clarify that so someone else can have a better experience. It took hours, the dishes were 45 minutes apart. Perhaps it is a technique to keep the patrons buying additional bottles of wine. We drank so much wine waiting for the tiny portions that the entire experience became hysterical at the establishment's expense. The monk fish was 3 tater tot looking pieces filled with the fish blended to the consistency of alfredo sauce. The anchovy salad was a portion of greens with what tasted like mayo and sour cream mix on top of a few bites of badly prepared potatoes. This was the least celebrated dish. The octopus was minimal (disappointing) and looked shaven it was so thin. The mackeral was fishy smelling and delivered with the skin and fat. The sausage with chocolate cotton candy was ok. The best was the venison and this dish meets the highest standards. Our group stopped for take out after leaving since everyone was starving. It is not an exaggeration to say 5 bites of food with plenty of bread for which the chef will not permit butter or olive oil to be served will be your dining experience. more

DO NOT come here with a group!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2/2/2008

I was at harvest vine last night and it suuuuuuuuuuuucked. We had a group of 8 and were advised to order 1 plate each. So we did this and each plate came out once every 10 minutes, and it served two people. Therefore 8 people were trying to share a two person meal. I felt like this was a ploy to get us to order more food and more wine, which we did, I had to drink to get through this meal. We all ended up paying $60, for basically 8 bites and three glasses of wine. I realize this is a tapas place, but for a big group you should bring out all the food at once. Needless to say, we stopped and got a hamburger on the way home! more

Single most amazing dining experience ever 1/5/2008

from the minute we set foot in the restaurant, we felt as if we were in the presence of close family. juan carlos' charisma, combined with edward's outstanding knowledge of the fine basque cusine completed the experience. in retrospect, the experience would have been meaningless without the amazing food and wine that the staff brilliantly presented to us. the dishes were a perfect representation of authentic spanish cooking. i loved the fact the chef's preferences were perfectly obeyed, if you asked for olive oil with your bread, you would not only be refused but practically ridiculed, i loved every second of it. the idea that the chef is so confident with the way his dishes are presented, that they should be had NO other way. NO salt NO pepper NO olive oil, i promise that it comes out of the kitchen PERFECTLY seasoned. more

The Harvest Vine IS BASQUE 12/20/2007

Usually don't poste on these sites but I had to after the last review. Maybe you lived for ""many years in the basque country"" but you certainly must not have eaten there. more

Wow, what an attitude! 11/29/2007

Yes, the food is great. Its art, really. Beautiful presentations. But you pay for a full priced entree ($14-$18 per plate) and end up getting about 5 bites. Our soup was served in a cup the size of a shot glass. But the real motivation for me to write a review was the absurd attitude we got from the cook. We sat up at the bar and watched he and another guy prepare the food, which was a treat. Both cooks were very busy. My girlfriend decides she would like some olive oil for her bread. There happened to be a bottle practically touching her bread plate, albeit on the cooks side of the bar. Well, it seemed innocent enough...so she poured some on her bread plate to not bother the busy cooks. WELL, were we mistaken! Once the cook saw she had olive oil on her plate, he gave her the most 'you just really made a bad move' look I've ever seen! He then reprimanded us and told us that if the chef was here, he would have asked us to leave. (Are these guys forgetting who is keeping them in business?!) Anyway, he then proceeded to take away her bread plate with the olive oil on it....need I say more?! Crazy! We certainly wont be giving them our business ever again. There is plenty other great food in Seattle. Pros: The food is presented like art and tastes great. Cons: The attitude of the cook was atrocious, and you dont get much at all for what you pay for. more

Respect the Experience... Get Over No Olive Oil!! 11/20/2007

I have been a faithful diner at the Harvest Vine for years. First off, let me say that I do agree that sometimes the servers are not as attentive as they should be... one of my new issues is the dress code. Save the clubbing clothes for the clubs, wear something respectable to your place of work!! more
