Well,,, my friends have talked about this place for a while and here is what I found for myself. \r A super old waiter who doesn't seem like you deserve an explanation of anythin...

Truly a mystery 3/15/2005

How can anyone like this place? I would not eat their hamburgers for free; Same people sit in the same seats everyday and snicker at working people arriving at 12:00PM; High priced garbage - TOTAL RIPOFF! more

Best Burger In Los Angeles 3/6/2005

Been going to the Pan for over 20 years -- first time writing a review anywhere. If you haven't checked out the Pan, you are missing a truly unique Burger Experience!!! Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Great Price more

Old school classic 2/14/2005

I heard about the Apple Pan many times after I moved to LA. Finally got to go and I'm a fan. The straighforward menu and ""just-business"" attitude of the staff is all part of the experience. I would stick with the classic hickory burger and fries - with a slice of pie to wash it all down. You'll leave satisfied - and in under 15 minutes. Pros: Hamburger, Pie, Quick Cons: Parking more

Worth It 11/13/2004

Even though I got there when it opened, I still had to wait 10 minutes. Also, my group of 4 had to split in two just so we could get out of there at a reasonable time. Still, even though that was a bit chaotic, it was worth it. The burgers were great, and certainly above average. Juicy meat, tangy relish, and cheese with a zip put this buger into a category of its own. I'd recommend not getting the fries, the buger is more then enough. Plus you don't want to have a heart attack when you get the bill. Pros: Burgers, Speedy Service Cons: , Price more

Simple the best 9/26/2004

Apple Pan is simply the best burger joint in all of LA and probably up there with the best in the country. Whether you order the amazing hickory burger or a steak burger - great french fries and a soda served in an old fashioned paper cone cup... you are in for a great meal. Brave the lines to sit at the country, the boyz will take care of you! Pros: The Food, The Hamburger, The Service Cons: , The Wait more

Honestly 8/11/2004

I felt cheated out of my money there. I don't live in West L.A., so it was a far drive for me. I got cheated out of my gas, I could've used to drive to a better restaurant. The bill for 2 for a hamburger, fries, soda and pie was almost $30!!!! That was ridiculous! The burger was below average, kind of dry. The fries were average at best. The pie tasted like it was store bought. I just thought I'd warn everyone out there, that doesn't live near there, not to make the trip, it's a ripoff! Save your money, time and gas, and make a trip to your nearest Fatburger, Bob's Big Boy or In-N-Out. Pros: historical Cons: , expensive, bad parking more

Simply the BEST Hamburger in LA 8/3/2004

Like most of the Apple Pan's customers, I have been going to the Apple Pan since I was a kid in the 1960's. I am now taking my kids and I'm sure they'll do the same. From a historical perspective, this place is a true Civic treasure as it has been there nearly 100 years, making it truly unique in a throw-away society like LA. From a quality and taste perspective, you can beat the Hickory Burger, the crunchy-perfect french fries, and then chase that with a coke in a paper cup. It doesn't get any better! Pros: Best, Hamburger, InTown! more

I'll admit I'm scared of the servers 8/2/2004

For years, I wouldn't even sit on the left side. I still remember the time that someone had the audacity to order a hamburger without the lettuce. The server muttered, ""Not much of a burger..."" shook his head and ambled off. All these years later, I notice the guy on the right doesn't plant the burgers on the counter before you with the same vehemence he once did. He even says goodbye now and thanks you for coming in. Apple Pan is an institution, serving up messy burgers (WITH lettuce, please) with properly spicy hickory sauce, hot crunchy fries, and an apple pie reminiscent of a bygone era. Pros: Cheap, Reliable, Go for the experience Cons: , You will wait more

Eat in an Edward Hopper painting 7/24/2004

This is the antithesis of the McDonald's meal: goopy, imperfect, big, and homey. Don't make the mistake of trying to chat up the servers; they invented surly, but they'll tally up your bill and simultaneously pour ketchup for your french fries onto a little chinette plate. This is great for late night dining; right after our wedding, my husband and I came here for pies and fries and an old regular at the counter paid our tab without telling us. It's that kind of neighborhood place. Just go! Pros: Ambience, Paper cone cups Cons: , Parking more

Best Burgers in town 7/18/2004

The Applepan rocks! There Hickory Burger is outta this world! I drive all the way from Bellflower to go grab a bite to eat at the Applepan, and it's totally worth it! Pros: Great Burgers, Bangin Apple pie, Fun atmosphere more

Best Burger in L.A. 6/19/2004

Absolutely the BEST BURGER in L.A. Get the hickory burger. It'll melt in your mouth. service is kinda cool too. Pros: BURGERS, FRIES, APPLE PIE ALA MODE more

The best burgers 5/17/2004

Try the hickory burger. It's the best, most flavorful burger I've ever had. I'll drive 20 miles for my monthly burger fix at the Apple Pan. The fries are always served hot & first. This place is great. I always have to wait in line. Pros: Hickory burger, fries, apple pie more

An LA Tradition 3/25/2004

This is an absolute classic, the reason burgers were made. The Hickory Burger is one of a kind -- but the pie is awesome. A trip to LA without a visit to the Apple Pan is a waste. Pros: Great Burgers, Awesome Pie, Great Service Cons: , Uncomfortable stools more

Interesting..... 3/4/2004

Just got back from the Apple Pan and I can say I am full from just a Steakburger and a Cream Soda.... no fries. If I go back on a whim (it would have to be because the value is not all that great for what you get) I would order the burger the next time without that sweet relish they smother it in. I sat on the right side (as someone here suggested) and the guy working that side was a real sour puss. He is a bit entertaining to watch work though! Pros: Ambiance, Fast Service, Fresh Food Cons: , Price, That Sweet Relish! more

Best Burger in L.A. 2/13/2004

The steak burger is absolutely fabulous. It gets a little smokey & greasy inside so don't wear your Sunday best but it's worth it. Parking is bad so park down the street & walk it. Don't forget the pies. Places like Russell's & Pie & Burger copied this place but don't match up. check it out. more

Great West side joint for Hamburgers 1/13/2004

This is a great place to take friends on a Saturday afternoon or stop in during the middle of the week. Excellent burgers and if you have room try their homemade pies!!!! Cheap and really good food, you won't be dissapointed more

Best Burger in L.A. 12/19/2003

When on the westside I always stop at the Apple Pan. The Steak burger is the best burger i've ever had. The service can be iffy but the burger is worth it. Pros: steak burger, fries, apple pie Cons: parking, closed on Monday, long wait for seating more

Double the price of a double-double 9/10/2003

I went there today for lunch. It has a cute, diner feel to it. Friendly and you can tell that the help has been there for many years. They know what they're doing. This place is located across from the mall, so they are probably used to people being able to spend lots of money for not a whole lot. I spent $9.80 for a cheeseburger, fries and a can of coke. That's a bit high. then I tipped a couple bucks for the good service. So for $12, all I got was a hamburger. They do put a special relish on there, which is good. but I just compare this to In & Out, and the value you get there is not comparible. I probably won't be back to Apple Pan, but I'm glad I gave it a try (on my company's expense account) Pros: good burgers, atmosphere Cons: value more

Apple What 5/9/2003

The food was okay i would have liked the burger to be a bit more cooked the bun broke apart half way thru and the freis well i saw them sitting there re fried and then severd back to me they were more like cheetos... um the price was a bit much thinking that a double double is twice as much and well personaly twice as good... um didnt hav the pie ran out of money before 20 dollars for two bugers and two fries and three sodas.... HEy not all bad love the old fashion cups... Pros: cool cups, nice retro feel, pie smeeld good Cons: small crowed, small burger more

The most overhyped place in LA 4/18/2003
