Great place 5/23/2012

I have been here more than 50 times. The food is delicious. The ambiance is just right. I have never been disappointed. This place is no more expansive, that any other great restaurant. Give the valet guy a $20 and ask him to park your car in front. Slip the hostess a $50 and she will sit you with out reservations ahead of every one else ( you can save that $50 by making reservations, of course). When you meet your waiter, smile tell him or her that, you are here to have a great time and slip him or her a $100 (Tips). Great time and best service is now guaranteed. ""Tips"" stands for [To Insure Proper Service]. Take your time eating and drinking, there is no rush to leave this place. They will wait for you to be done. Remember, you slipped them a $100 ahead of time. They will bend over backwards for you. more

Near inedible food, gorgeous view 2/2/2012

I've lived in LA all my life, but had never been to Geoffrey's until now (and I'm in my mid 30's)! I was excited to finally go, as my husband really wanted to try it. We were seated at a table with a lovely view and the waitress was a doll. However, the food was just absolutely horrendous. We both got the surf and turf and the lobster looked like it had possibly been microwaved. It had no life or love to it, and the orange sauce that it came in tasted like it had soured and gone bad. The steak was ok...nothing terrible but nothing to speak of. My husband and I were quiet when we took our first few bites because we were having a nice romantic evening and didn't want to speak negatively, but then we started laughing, and at the same time, said "Something's not right with the food." We figured their kitchen may be something out of Gordon Ramsey's kitchen nightmares. Perhaps they only have laborers and no real chefs. It's too bad, because it really is in a pretty location. more

Let’s talk about the food. The bread is like a Rosemary foccacia. It had a good crust on the outside, golden brown, soft and tender inside. It had just the right amount of rosemary flavor. Thumbs up! Golden Beet Salad with Herbed Goat Cheese is accompanied by Micro Greens and Tangerine Walnut Vinaigrette. The beets were sweet and had the perfect texture. The goat cheese and walnuts were a perfect pairing. This was a perfectly executed dish. Thumbs up! Sautéed Maryland Lump Crab Cakes served over a Sweet Corn Butter Sauce topped with a Pasilla Chile and Grilled Corn Relish. The crab cakes were seasoned perfectly and had lots of crab meat with minimal filler. One of the best crab cakes I’ve ever had. Thumbs up! Baked Brie in Puff Pastry served with Pear Chutney, Beurre Blanc, Roasted Pine Nuts. The brie was perfectly melty and gooey within puff pastry. I did not care for the pear chutney, kind of bland and didn’t match the flavor palate of the cheese. It would have been better with a raspberry or cranberry compote. Sautéed Day Boat Sea Scallops a top Hudson Valley Foie Gras Risotto with a drizzle of Star Anise Infused Pomegranate Reduction. The scallops were perfectly cooked and seasoned, seared on the outside and rare on the inside so you can savor the sweetness of the scallop. The risotto was cooked perfectly, but it was very disappointing to discover that there was only a 1/4" square of foie gras in it. Thumbs up but needs a little more foie gras! Grilled Ahi Nicoise Salad topped with Nicoise Olives, Haricot Verts, Eggs, Red Rose Potatoes, and Grain Mustard Vinaigrette. The salad was nice and light. The tuna was cooked a little past seared but had a nice flavor and texture. The dressing was too light and just tasted mostly like oil. Geoffrey's Benedict - Two Crab Cakes served atop Toasted Croissant with Roasted Potatoes and Fresh Fruit. Crab cakes were good but not as good as the appetizer (a different batch, maybe). But the Hollandaise sauce had the perfect taste and texture and the roasted potato wedges were expertly seasoned. Thumbs up! Classic Geoffrey’s Crème Brulée is a layer of traditional Vanilla Brulee on top of a layer of dark chocolate mousse. This is absolutely fabulous! It’s like 2 desserts in 1. The crème brulee layer is creamy and custardy with the wonderful burnt sugar shell atop. The chocolate mousse is sinfully decadent, creamy, chocolately, and to die for. Thumbs up! Order up a cup of cappuccino for the perfect ending to your meal. more

excellent view, good food, horrible service 5/27/2010

Valet was very friendly and prompt, hostess was cheerful, we had a great table wtih an outstanding view, but our waiter was horrible. He needed lots of training. To start with he put down dirty and wet cocktail napkins on our table for our martinis, he brought the soup without a soup spoon, he did not check back to see if we needed anything, like a spoon for the soup, or to refill our wine glasses or to see if the steak was prepared properly to my liking. Unfortunately it was a raw filet that I ordered medium well, I never ate it because he never checked back with us until after the busser cleared the table. The lobster was excellent, the ceviche, pear salad, corn chowder were all very good. For the price you pay here, one should expect excellent service. Pros: excellent ambience, martinis, ceviche Cons: service was bad more

360 Degree Views 5/9/2010

With an unbelievable view of the Pacific Ocean, dining outside at Geoffrey's is a wonderful treat. While sitting under the beautiful California sun, enjoy the Hamachi with watermelon as an appetizer, and then move onto the lobster, sea bass or bone in filet, while finishing with an apple tart a la mode. Although the view might be your draw, the menu is what will keep you coming. more

Ultimate Brunch Experience 1/18/2010

Geoffrey's is the mac daddy of brunches. This isn't your casual, last-minute, hungover brunch spot. Reserve this for special occasions like Mother's Day, anniversaries, and when you need to treat yourself. Overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Malibu you will dine on delectables such as tuna tartar, baked brie pastries, and lobster quiche. No bottomless mimosas here, but there is a great selection of refreshing drinks. It's pricey but it's something that everyone should enjoy at some point. Pros: Beautiful view and excellent food Cons: Pricey more

Great View for Lunch 5/21/2009

Great place to impress out-of-towners for lunch, especially if they come from back East where the weather is always unpredictable and bad. The ocean view is awesome. The cumin crusted Ahi Tuna was good, but the portions seem a little small for the price (would have been nice to nestle it on a salad instead of just a plate). It's obvious they are trying to pay the high rent. But I must say I was greeted with a smile by the attractive Maitre ""D"" in front of my out of town guest, as if she was very glad to see us, and for me that's a plus. Dinner at night is romantic, but once again - pricey. Pros: The View is awesome. Ample parking on PCH. Cons: pricey - even for lunch. more
