Beautiful View 3/19/2006

Visiting LA friends from Denver and this was our holiday dinner. We were the first people to arrive, but still asked to sit at the bar for 20 minutes before we were seated. We got a nice table very close to the rail with a fantastic view. The service wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. The waiter wasn't rude, but wasn't very attentive even though he didn't have any other tables to serve. Midway through our meal, a group with a toddler was seated next to us. Dad volunteered as he passed by ""don't worry, he's a good kid"" and then allowed the child to run yelling all over the whole patio with no objection by restaurant staff in spite of annoyed looks and explicit complaints. My salmon was excellent as was the traditional turkey dinner. On the other hand, the grilled portabella came out with 1 (one) measly mushroom cap on a plate full of garnish. None of us could believe it, especially for the huge price. My friend thought the rest of her meal was forthcoming but was told that was it. Overall it was a mixed bag- great view but overshadowed by an unruly unchecked toddler...some food great but some bad, really blah service. more

Great Service 2/22/2006

OK. Why is Geoffreys so different to other properties? I will tell you. I am a local resident, and they have mastered their cuisine, their kind/helpful service is such a delight and their wines & cocktail selections are just so fantastic. I am always so excited to take my guest to Geoffrey's. They always take care of our special needs. It is also such a great value. Most restaurants that charge this amount offer small portions. The portion size is generous and food delicious. Pros: Professional Service and Food Choices Cons: PCH - be careful more

Gave it a chance... OVERRATED!!!!! 2/10/2006

Hey guys, after reading many reviews (some good, some bad), I decided to go ahead and give this place the benefit of the doubt and eat here for a special occasion. I reserved a seat next to the "rail" a month before the date, showed up early for our reservation, and still didn't get to sit there. Our waitress was rude, and wasn't very inviting towards us. The food was DEFINATELY MEDIOCRE. My date ordered a $25 plate of tasteless chicken breast, with five potatoes. On top of everything, the waitress billed us extra for our glasses of wine. If you're looking for a place to be seen, come here. If you don't care about "who's here, who's not", and want to spend a nice romantic night with a loved one with a splendid view, DON'T COME HERE! Definately not worth the drive from L.A. more

great restaurant for a special occaision 11/21/2005

we've been to this place several times for special occaisions, the first of which was when we got engaged. the fire pits, greenery, and the ocean make it a completely romantic location, perfect for dates, celebrations, or just a really nice dinner out somewhere. the food is always fantastic: for appetizers try the tuna tartare, the crab cakes and the oysters. the entrees are just as delicious: try the scallops with foie gras (delicious), the sea bass or the filet mignon; none of which will disappoint. the dessert is also stellar: if the have the apple tart, GET IT. in all, the service, the food and the atmosphere always make for an amazing evening. Pros: delicious food, great service, great location Cons: far drive more

decent food - terrible service 10/31/2005

Although we requested a seat "on the rail" we were told they couldn't make any promises but would make a note of it next to our reservation. When we arrived, there were lots of empty seat by the rail, but we were not seated at one of them. We waited for 20 minutes for the waiter to visit our table and had to ask him if was going to wait on us. Then it took at least another 20 minutes to get our drinks. The baked brie appetizer was delicious as were our drinks. I ordered the filet mignon - which was cooked rare even though I ordered medium. Because of the slow service, I did not send it back. My husband ordered the coconut curry prawns - which was very good. The view was fantastic, but with the price and service, I'd be hesitant to recommend it. Pros: view, drinks, appetizers Cons: service more

Don't underestimate the distance from LA 8/17/2005

Traffic can deflate the romantic aura you are likely seeking when you dine at Geoffrey's, so plan ahead. If you are counting on a view of the sunset while you dine, and you are not a Malibu local, you will likely have to drive over 20 miles during rush hour, which means 25-40 mph on PCH with long waits at stoplights. That translates into 40-50 minutes or more from Santa Monica. As for other tips, I concur with the poster who suggested asking for a table for two along the outer rail. They will say "We'll do our best" when you ask, which may sound ingenuine, but their accomodating behavior when we arrived seemed to confirm that statement. We were seated at the table we asked for after a brief wait despite being 35 minutes late. more

Really great for a special occasion 7/12/2005

Just took my wife here last night for our anniversary after a tip from a Malibu local. It was perfect! I called ahead and requested seating along the rail (outdoors overlooking the ocean). Great views of the Pacific from almost every table (most outdoors). The service was really top-notch, we were very impressed. Our water glasses never made it below the half-glass mark, our waitress was very friendly and offered crisp service. Even the valets were friendly. The food was pretty good, if not out-of-this-world stellar. What's nice is that while most expensive restaurants seem to have an inverse relationship between the price and the amount of food they give you, Geoffrey's left us stuffed and satisfied. We had heirloom tomato salad, beet salad, steak and chicken. All good, though chicken was a bit dry. The wine was good, and the drive up there made it an adventure. We recommend! Pros: Ocean views, Great service, Good food Cons: nothing major more

Beautiful location, Great food! 6/19/2005

I took my boyfriend to Geoffrey's for his birthday; we were running REALLY late, but they were very accommodating. I requested a table against the rail, but didn't get it (probably b/c we were late), but it was still a great view anywhere. I thought a place like this would rely on its location to carry it, but the food was delicious. Our waiter was very friendly (and not bad to look at, either!). Great martini menu! I called early and asked them to do a birthday candle on our dessert and they forget. Pros: Waterfront, Martini menu, Service Cons: Forgot Special Rqst more
