gone seriously downhill 7/22/2006

Geoffrey's has gone seriously downhill. I used to like this place, and took some friends from out of town. My first clue was when we walked in for lunch on a monday and we were literally the only people in the place, and we stayed the only people for almost 20 minutes until another couple wandered in. talk about creepy. Then the foor arrived and we discovered why customers had abandoned the place. Everyone's dish was bland and/or extremely poor quality. For example, the potatoes on my plate were not freshly cooked and were clearly actually LEFT OVER from the steam table from their Sunday Brunch. The bread actually had no flavor, there was no salt in the dough. The fruit was rock hard. The sauces were bland, almost like it was made from a powder or from a can. All in all, it was a most unapealling meal. I mean, how can you screw up a salad? The only reason I'm even giving it a two is because the service was competent and pleasant. (Indeed, the waiter was appropriately embarassed to be serving such poor quality food) Pros: It's a "view" restaurant Cons: It's a "view" restaurant - meaning, forget about getting well prepared food more

Avoid !!! Terrible food, bad service!!! 6/22/2006

We had reservations (only 2 people) . And still had to wait 30 min. The waitor was very rude and snoody and not helpful at all. When we finally got our food, it was cold. And it was a hot day.\r And the food was just horrible. Also the coffee tasted like it was from previus day! \r I would strongly advise not to go to this restaurant. more

AMAZING 4/25/2006

I love this beautiful spot on our Coast. Our server could not have been more gentle and more caring. He took such great care of us. The Valet team were very prompt on our arrival. I have to mention that our food was truly impressive, knowing how busy Geoffrey's gets, we really thought they did a great job. Happy Holidays to all at Geoffrey's. Thank you for your great service. Pros: The view!!! Breathtaking! The service is on-point, and most things from the menu are quite tasty. Cons: Get there early. more

Average Food-Lousy Service 4/7/2006

Seafood was at best average, certainly below expectation for the exhorbitant prices. Cheap plastic chairs somehow deter from the atmosphere...but the real catch is the long wait and inpersonnal service. Oh well, you can fool me once.... more

Horrible service and subpar food 3/27/2006

I went to Geoffrey's for my birthday, excited that we would get to see incredible views of Malibu while dining. Although I was promised a table against the outer rail, I was given a table in the middle of the patio. When we then requested a change of seat, as we had had a reservation for it before and because it was a special occasion, we were told that we would have to wait an additional 30 minutes. The employees there did not seem to care at all about the disappointment. Food was not impressive, especially with the high price tag. From where I was seated, I could hardly see good views of Malibu -- defeating my whole purpose of going there in the beginning. The only good thing about the whole experience is the birthday dessert they gave me at the end. I will never go back to Geoffrey's. Pros: in Malibu Cons: service, price, food more

Beautiful View 3/19/2006

Visiting LA friends from Denver and this was our holiday dinner. We were the first people to arrive, but still asked to sit at the bar for 20 minutes before we were seated. We got a nice table very close to the rail with a fantastic view. The service wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. The waiter wasn't rude, but wasn't very attentive even though he didn't have any other tables to serve. Midway through our meal, a group with a toddler was seated next to us. Dad volunteered as he passed by "don't worry, he's a good kid" and then allowed the child to run yelling all over the whole patio with no objection by restaurant staff in spite of annoyed looks and explicit complaints. My salmon was excellent as was the traditional turkey dinner. On the other hand, the grilled portabella came out with 1 (one) measly mushroom cap on a plate full of garnish. None of us could believe it, especially for the huge price. My friend thought the rest of her meal was forthcoming but was told that was it. Overall it was a mixed bag- great view but overshadowed by an unruly unchecked toddler...some food great but some bad, really blah service. more
