I've been here twice and may have to take a second job so I can go more often. The food is amazing: complex, flavorful, varied, fresh.... It's not strictly traditional Peruvian ...

Folks, my wife and I just visited Andina Peruvian restaurant after hearing/reading about much of the hype. Unfortunately, looking at the tail end of a $135 bill for a dinner for ...

Great drinks and Peruvian tapas 10/25/2006

Andina was the best Portland food find during our visit. Great mix of inventive drinks--try the one with roasted ginger-infused rum with grapefruit juice, lime, and a cardamom-sugared rim.\r Atmosphere was hip, drinks were smooth, flavors were bold! Get a seat near the fireplace in the bar for a great vibe.\r \r The piquillo peppers stuffed with quinoa, cotija cheese, and Serrano ham were our favorite! The cheese plate with the quince jam was also interesting. Loved the marinated chicken kabobs...try dipping them in the passionfruit-habanero sauce that comes with the bread! The habaneros have had their seeds removed so the sauce isn't really very hot, just great flavor.\r \r If you love experimenting with tapas, you'll love Andina! Pros: Great food, great drinks, cool vibe Cons: loud, crowded at peak times, parking more

I'll be back! 10/5/2006

A few friends gather on a bi-weekly basis to eat at different locations around the city. Andina was our location last night and I can't say enough about the meals we received. After happy hour drinks, I had the POLLITO AL PISCO CON TOQUES CHORRILLANOS, my friends had the HALIBUT AL ROCOTO Y KION and the CORDERITO DE LOS ANDES. Flavor was great, presentation solid, service almost overwhelmingly good. We walked away sated, happy, and with good memories.\r \r I'm obviously not a professional reviewer but this is a place I'll be coming back to. Pros: Service, food, environment Cons: A bit spendy. more

This is my favorite restaurant 9/20/2006

I enjoy going here, and whenever given the option to be taken out, I request Andina's. Peruvian food makes the place different from the others, and my service has always been great. more

good for special occasions but make reservations 9/4/2006

I've celebrated special dates, birthdates, guests in town etc. here. Stiff drinks, awesome food, except the chewy cows tongue, skip it, live music on weekends, tasty deserts, introduced to chocolate with chillis here, mmm. Affordable champagne. What else? more

where to eat? 7/6/2006

This is usually the first place that comes to mind when asked where to dine in portland. The food is great. The menu also features unique items without being pretentious or pointlessly weird. Great cocktails. Knowledgeable staff. I love the wine by the glass selections and the desserts. I highly recommend grabbing one of the booths in the bar, which are often the only place available without a reservation and are some of the best seats in the house. more

Best in PDX 6/12/2006

This is my favorite restaurant in Portand since L'Auberge closed. You get to pick ""tapas"" of different sizes and types for the whole table to share. They were unusual, ran a huge gamut and everyone was able to share a wide variety. Most of the staff speak excellent Spanish and even those who don't make an effort. Food is excellent. Room gets kind of loud. Pros: Food, service, room Cons: Parking, loud more

Lots of reasons to enjoy Andina 4/15/2006

I have been here many times...I must admit the food was much more flavorful in the beginning but still it is good. The sangria rocks and the service is good. The restaurant service is better over bar staff. Mix the flavors and be sure to sample the chocolates! Pros: food, sangria, location Cons: crowded bar more

Wow...great place! 4/9/2006

Service...presentation...subtle and not so subtle flavors...Andina is an all-around gem. We loved it. Pros: Food, Service more

Amazing Food and Service 4/5/2006

This is the best restaurant in Portland. Whenever my clients visit Portland, we take them to Andina for a few simple reasons. The flavor of the food is terrific. The attention to details from drinks to tapas to main course is outstanding. And, the service is excellent. For example, last week we had a waitress, born in Armenia and moved to Portland from Santa Fe, and my clients were so impressed with her passion for the food and restaurant that they practically hired her. My point...the restaurant staff cares about the total experience of its guests and it shows. I simply love the place. Pros: Oustanding Food Cons: Crowded more

I could have died happy if that was my last meal 3/22/2006

The food was great, I had the ahi. My friend myself, and my one year old daughter went there around 8 pm on a Friday night and were seated right away. The owner came over and fell in love with my daughter and talked with us a while. The food was excellent. And no one seemed to mind that my child was there, well except for the stepford wives behind us but o'well. The only thing bad thing was during my meal I was in the process of putting food into my mouth and the waitress came and started rearanging my silverwear. That was pretty odd and kinda rude but the food made up for it. Pros: great food, seated quickly, nice owner Cons: rude waitress, portion to cost ratio more

The service makes you want to walk out the door! 3/10/2006

Bottom line, the food was not bad but the service just plain sucked and runied the whole experience! We were coldly ""insisted"" (yes that was the work that was used!) to ""move"" from the bar to a table that was too small for our group (with our clients) because ""the girlfriend of the bartender wanted to sit near him""! All this after waiting over 1/2 an hour for just a seat at the bar! We watched in awe as a waitress spilled a drink on a pregnant woman and got snippy with her telling her to ""watch were she was going"" (refering to her belly)! Don't go here with business clients unless you want your clients to be jaw-dropped by the service! Pros: Interesting drinks., Simple menu., fresh seafood Cons: Crappy service, sloppy servers, too much back talk more

i felt like i was stepping into peru 3/7/2006

Stepping in the front door the active open kitchen is in front of you, giving you a chance to see where your 'comida andina' is being prepared. To your right is the bar, there was a man playing the guitar, who's voice filled up the space with deep rich tones. I was seated in a corner, had the lomo saltado (amazing) and a cocktail called the sacsehuman (yummmmy). Service was delightful, from the hostesses to the servers to the busboy who brought us bread and the sweet spicy salsas. I am glowing from the experience and will be going back time and agian!\r \r This is the best restaurant in portland! Pros: the food, the service, the cocktails, the wine... Cons: nothing more

THE place to take all your out-of-town visitors! 3/5/2006

Amazing. Simply refreshing. I have eaten here 1/2 a dozen times with different groups of people.....from older family members to younger hip friends. Everything has always been perfect. I even spent last New Year's Eve dinner here. It was pricey but worth every cent. Every dish was amazing as usual, and the service was perfect. This is always the first place I think of to take friends/family visiting from out-of-town because it is unique and you are guaranteed to please everyone's senses. Pros: tapas, festive atmosphere, live music Cons: price more

Bad service, disappointing experience 3/1/2006

I am usually quite content with most restaurants around Portland, and have never had the urge to write bad reviews for anywhere, but my experience last night at Andina changed that. We were seated in a horrible location near the door and in the middle of serving traffic, our service was so slow it barely existed, and our server was incredibly rude to us and excused the fruit fly in our drink as ""Well when working with fresh fruit, you get fruit flies"" instead of profusely apologizing. Our food was good, but not good enough for the prices, and some of our dishes were unremarkable. I hope that our experience was atypical, but nonetheless it was quite frustrating and unsatisfactory. Pros: atmosphere, entertainment Cons: service, seating, food more

Questionable Food and Screaming Chef 2/26/2006

Another overpriced place with perfect Portland unknowledgable service and questionable food. The new Chef could be heard screaming at kitchen help and servers from the dining room. She might want to concentrate more on the food? Portions are tiny and expensive with less than remarkable flavors. The best part was the red Sangria. I'd go back for drinks in the bar next to the cozy fireplace and listen to some nice music if it could drown out the kitchen. But, I would definitely eat elsewhere first. Pros: Bar Cons: Service, Noise from kitchen, Food more

Different and delicious! 2/25/2006

Wow! It's been a quite while since I've seen this level of innovation combined with amazing flavors at a new restaurant. We started with three tapas of yucca rellena, wantan de mariscos, and palta rellena de cangrejo y langostinos- all three were terrific. For our entres we tried the Lomo Saltado (bursting with South American flavor) and the special of the evening which was three roasted pork medalions served on sweet potato stuffed raviolis topped with procuitto (just amazing - I licked my plate). Both sommeliers were very velpful. In fact we told them what wine region we were interested in, what price point we wanted and turned the selection over to them. They brought out a perfect bottle for our meal. Excellent experience, can't wait to go back! Pros: Innovative, Flavorful, Service Cons: Parking more

Not the Best 2/19/2006

I didnt care for the taste of their food. Something just wasnt right, and I wouldnt eat there again Cons: impersonal, expensive more

Astounding food and exceptional service! 1/20/2006

You must try the Lamo Saltado -- beef, red pepper onino -- it was superb. The service was attentive without being over-the-top. The atmosphere was nice and the stuffed yuca relleno was sublime. Everything I've heard about this restaurant is true -- AMAZING! Pros: food presentation, divine tastes, service Cons: front door was stuck more

Uneven & Overrated 1/6/2006

Tapas were very good...entrees not so much. Wouldn't recommend for large groups. Busy and noisy as trendy places can be. From other reviews, I expected something a little more than I got. The dessert menu was uninspiring. The service wasn't anything to write home about...overall an okay experience but not spectacular. Oregonian's Restaurant of the Year for 2005? Why? Pros: tapas, wine Cons: entrees, crowded more

Andina is Unparalleled 11/27/2005

The fact is, that while there certainly are a number of good restaurants in town, Andina is clearly on another level. The proof exists not just in a nice, casual trip down to the restaurant (any place can get lucky, and be found on a good night) but in repeated trips, wherein the very capable staff not only remembers your table of choice, but what obscure wine you like to drink from their brilliantly selected list. On that note, it should be mentioned that the wine at Andina has taken an exciting turn, and is quickly becoming the destination for wine lovers. The list is smart, and there is a sommelier on the floor, every night. The young man we've dealt with, Colin, is as knolwledgable & capable as just about any sommelier we have dealt with in our years of wine collecting & fine dining. Pros: Wine , Top Rate Service, Great Food more
