I've been here twice and may have to take a second job so I can go more often. The food is amazing: complex, flavorful, varied, fresh.... It's not strictly traditional Peruvian ...

Our only choice 4/28/2004

Leave it to a Pearl District restaurant to take a cuisine, taint it with a foo foo touch, and slap a ridiculous price tag for the experience. If you weren't expecting authentic Peruvian, then you won't be dissapointed. Pros: service, bread dipping sauce Cons: , this is Peruvian? more

Great Ceviche and Rice Pudding 3/18/2004

We went for dinner on a Tuesday. We were promptly seated, service was great - enough attention but not too over-bearing. Food was GREAT! The best rice pudding we've had outside of my mother-in-law! Very authentic! The ceviche had some kick. We tried two types. Both excellent. The lamb was great. Really enjoyed dinner. Will go again. Can't wait to try the lunch menu. Pros: Food, Service, Booth Seating more

Great all around 1/26/2004

A much-needed newcomer to the Pearl. Great food, great ambiance, beautiful space and the service has continuously improved as the restaurant finds its niche and comes into its own. The cocktails are clever and innovative and the wine selection is solid and affordable (although more Argentinian wines would be great). Pros: Innovative food, Great ambiance more

Don't Be Afraid Of the Heart! 1/26/2004

My wife and I decided to stop here for drinks and a few apps. The ceviche's are great, but the biggest suprise was the heart. I am a fan of offal and I had never tried heart, so why not (and it was only $5). I have to say if I didn't know better I would have thought I was eating filet of beef. It was great; the texture was a little firmer than filet, but not tough at all. Even my wife, who was aprehensive at first, thoroughy enjoyed it. Great prices as well -- beers were about $3.50, cocktails around $6 (not the usual $8-$10 in the haughty Pearl) and the food was more than a bargain. Andina could easliy mark eveything up $1-$2 and no one would think twice. I'm not sure if Andina is authentic(I wouldn't know the difference anyway), but it's certainly a unique restaurant! Pros: unique menu, Pisco!!, great prices more

Chicha Y Mas 12/19/2003

Andina's Restaurant it is not only their fabulous food and ambient, we also enjoy the Peruvian Art gallery located in the lower level of Andina's restaurant where every fIRST tHURSDAY add to the Peruvian touch with Musicians as well as the salsa, tango and music performance, where you can be expoused to more Peruvian culture. Some people start calling this area the new Barrio Peruano en el Distrito de las Perlas. Enjoy Pros: bilingual wait staff, Peruvian Art Gallery, Different exotic dess more

Unique and wonderful 10/13/2003

We dined at Andina this past Friday night with friends and all of us loved the place. Very freindly staff, who admittedly may not be the most knowledgable of wines, compensated with friendliness and attentiveness. And if you are lucky, one of the owner's mom might come by to greet you with stories of her native country Peru. The food and drinks were equally as wonderful. The drink (Tortuga) was the tables favorite and we all enjoyed sharing ceviche and the sauces that come with the bread (I was a fan of the peanut-cillantro, while my wife loved the mango-pepper sauce). Entrees were amazing - the vegitarian pasta and mushroom dish was outstanding and the lamb superb. Everything that reached our table were shared and enjoyed. With drinks, apps, & meal for two - expect to pay in the $80-$90 range (total w/tip). Fine dining. We loved it. Pros: ceviche, food, service Cons: too much A/C , in dining room more

Wonderful Service - Great Atmosphere! 10/7/2003

One of the first things I noticed about Andina was the friendly and warm-spirited staff. They all seemed to interact with customers and each other so well, it created a lovely, family-like ambiance. The food was delicious and different - flavors I had certainly never tasted - like the spicy aji sauce and the quinoa. It is definitely a welcome addition to the Pearl District and the city of Portland. Who knew Peruvian food could be so tasty? Pros: Beautifully decorated, Authentic , Amazing Cocktails Cons: Parking more

Awesome Seviche 9/23/2003

This place is great. I ate here the first week it was open, and expected problems, but had none! Great service, great food, great atomosphere. more

Bad Service 9/12/2003

I attempted to have dinner with two friends, but after being seated and ignored for 10 minutes, we walked out. I enjoy slow paced fine dining, but our perception was that older, better dressed patrons were jumped upon by wait staff while we were ignored. For a new restaurant in a very competetitive neighborhood, there were plenty of other options for our dining dollars, and we will be taking our business elsewhere. Cons: Bad service more

Delicious! 8/14/2003

I went there for lunch - it was inexpensive, interesting and delicious. The food had a bit of spice that lingered nicely. I would be interested in trying out their different dinner menu. I feel that the waitstaff will be very competent, in time. Pros: Nice atmosphere, Tasty food, Inexpensive more

Great Food, Slow Service 8/12/2003

I've eaten lunch twice at Andina. The food is flavorful and very delicious. The atmosphere is quite pleasant. I enjoy seeing the Peruvian artifacts, art, and photos. The service needs to improve, though. The waitstaff is friendly and informative about menu options, but there's a bit of a wait for the food. I will keep going back for the incredible food and hope the service time gets better. Pros: Food, Atmosphere Cons: Slow Service more

Pearl Perfect 8/4/2003

Andina is just what the Pearl needs! Unlike many restaurants in the area where appearance is everything and aloofness is the norm, Andina welcomes you with open arms. Wonderfully innovative flavors, enthusiastic servers, and a chic atmosphere without being pretentious. We sampled much of what the menu has to offer and enjoyed every mouthwatering morsel! In a few months, when all of the kinks of a new restaurant are worked out, I'm sure my opinion of Andina will only rise...a perfect 10 is in the making! Pros: Affordable, Friendly, Great Flavors more

This is Peruvian? 7/29/2003

Non-innovative food served by completely incompetent wait staff. Worst experiece we've EVER HAD in a dining establishment. Don't waste your hard earned dollars here; try one of themany other great Pearl offerings, e.g. Fratelli, Little Wing Cafe, Oba, Le Buchon, Cha Cha Cha. I only hope that a better run establishment takes over this nice space when Andia goes belly up! Cons: Horrible service, Lack of spice, Very Slow more

Finally, a Peruvian restaurant in PDX 7/23/2003

I've been to this restaurant twice now. I really enjoyed the criolla food that the lunch chef serves. It's excellent! I AM Peruvian and can thoroughly vouch that this food is indeed authentic! as well as delicious. The lunch time servers are friendly. The ambiance was fun. Very latino! I had a different experience at dinner. They have an international chef that makes Nuevo Latino food. It is good food, but not authentic peruvian food...it's fusion. I didn't like the evening servers. They were snobbish and a bit rude. It annoyed me that they couldn't pronouce the names of the menu items correctly. However, the nightly live music made up for it all. The ceviche is excellent! Try this for a light, summery dish, low in calories packed with flavor! ~and a pisco sour to cool your palate. Buen Provecho! Pros: Authentic, Inexpensive, Great drinks more

Not Ready for Prime Time 7/2/2003

The service is very poor, the food is average, but there is little resemblance to authentic Peruvian cuisine. It took over 3 hours to complete a meal. The waiter left us waiting over 45 minutes after we finished the main course without checking if we wanted dessert or coffee. He also forgot to order one of the 4 main courses, so three finished their meal before the 4th person was served. The food needs more seasoning. Overall a very disappointing evening. Pros: Nice room Cons: poor service, average food more
