I've been here twice and may have to take a second job so I can go more often. The food is amazing: complex, flavorful, varied, fresh.... It's not strictly traditional Peruvian ...

Folks, my wife and I just visited Andina Peruvian restaurant after hearing/reading about much of the hype. Unfortunately, looking at the tail end of a $135 bill for a dinner for ...

Large groups beware! 11/14/2005

We had reservations, and still had to wait 45 minutes for our table! At that time, we did not even get much of an apology, but because it was a special occasion, we didn't want to get up and leave. They sat us right next to the side door, which staff kept going in and out of which was distracting and cold for the person sitting about 1 foot away from the door. The tuna they had that night was a horrible cut (had ligaments that you couldn't cut into at all!). Finally the owner gave us our dessert for free after we requested to talk to her about our night. It still did not leave a good impression on my pallate. Pros: Mussells, Dessert Cons: Service, Tuna more

Again Horrible Service 11/3/2005

This is my second time to Andina with friends.. and again we had the worst service. Pros: Good Food Cons: , Slow more

Dedicated to staying a top experience 10/22/2005

The food is imaginative and very, very good. One of our favorite places for food in Portland, and that is saying something! But what really stood out? They stand behind their product. When my friend wasn't happy, it was immediately exchanged. The owner has came over and spoke to us to make sure everything was ok, at length. The cocktails are intriguing and our table ordered different drinks so we could sample. Once we stayed 'too long' on a very busy night and were enticed out with a card letting us have free dessert at our next visit, they handled it nicely. May Andina prosper and stay around for a long, long time! :) Pros: food, atmosphere more

Great Experience 10/19/2005

Admittedly, I had avoided Andina expecting it to be long on trend and short of substance. I was pleasantly surprised to find the service helpful and snappy and the food delicious. One of the owners greeted us promptly after we were seated and made recommendations, which we took. Everything was excellent...seviche, stuffed peppers and a mashed potato/ seafood dish that the whole table declared a favorite. Entrees were presented beautifully and tasted even better than they looked. Expensive but worth it. I would happily return, in fact, I just made a lunch reservation. Pros: The Food, Service, Cocktails more

My new favorite! 9/27/2005

This place blew us away! Not only is the food spectacular and eclectic, but the service and general demeanor of the staff is great. Given how busy they are all the time that is saying something. The food however is reason enough to get me there a couple times a mnth minimum. Whether a full blow dinner or dining on tapas, its a great place for those of us who love to eat! Pros: Food, Service, Price Cons: Parking, crowded more

excellent food - slow service 6/21/2005

The food here is fabulous - but be prepared for a long wait - even with a reservation more than 2 weeks in advance and day of confirmation - we had 13 people waiting more than 1/2 hour to get seated and more than an hour just to have our order taken - let alone another wait for the food. The food was great -- but with literally no service and a required 20% tip - you have higher service expectations for the top restaurant in portland. Cons: long wait more

the best! 6/15/2005

i can't believe some reviews here are saying the service was too slow. i believe the service adds to the ambiance of fine dining. the food is exquisite and delicately balanced. the cocktails are the best around. the ambiance is sublime. the owners are warm and friendly and do make you feel like one of the family! and if there is a wait for a table, the pearl wine cellar downstairs is awesome too! we live in outer SE, and most of the time the only time we venture to the NW is to go to Andina! Pros: authentic dishes, ambiance, live music more

A revist, but still the same 5/23/2005

I dined there when they first opened and wasn't too impressed. Fast-forward two years and not much has changed. Loma Saltado - a Pervian staple - didn't include fries. What too low class? That's how the entree is made. Other dishes were average versions of the authentic, but with portions and price tags that were obscene. The server was great, the water/bread guy slow and with attitude. I prefer that they charge even more, but give a portion that doesn't make me want to order another entree because I'm still hungry. (I'm 5'11"", 168 lbs, so don't go there.) Why are we innundated with glowing reviews about Pearl restuarants, when most fall way short? Pros: dipping sauces Cons: price to value, price to value, price to value more

Major Improvements 5/11/2005

What a difference Andina is from when they first opened. So much flavor, so authentic! They have really taken away the trendy fluff and moved to the heart of Peruvian food. This is quickly becoming my favorite restaurant! The sauces are to die for! The food is so fresh! Pros: drinks, ceviche, wait staff more

again and again and again 4/29/2005

My boyfriend and I went to Andina for the first time last night, and I just had to write a review...everything that we orders was amazing. I was wondering if it was going to ever end, but it just kept getting better. I recomend ordering tapas.... mouthwatering to say the least, and you can stretch your dollar. The sangria was spicy and perfect, and though we had to wait (we made reservations too) it was WORTH IT. I practically licked my plate(s) clean, and my mom would be proud cause i even ate my lima beans... yeah they were good! I highly recommend making reservations... and requesting a booth, I'm kind of a snob about comfort! I will come back here though...again and again and again Pros: beautifully prepared , awesome ambiance, BURSTS OF FLAVOR Cons: wish i had a booth more

Order everything as tapas and get lots of them 2/11/2005

Wow! The food is not only beautiful to look at, it tastes amazing. The lunch menu allows you to order everything in 3 sizes - small, medium and large. The small plate, or tapas, is 1/4 size. I strongly recommend ordering everything as tapas and sharing; 3 - 4 tapas for each person will be plenty and allow you to experience a brilliant array of tastes, textures and colors. The Causa Morada is a case in point - purples, yellows, red's and orange combine to form a masterpiece that tastes devine. Even the grilled veggies were amazing. Go now! Pros: Food, Service, Decor more

YUM YUM YUM 1/26/2005

We had excellent food, good value, okay service. All worth it!! Pros: YUM Cons: slow service more

Andina' Novo Equals NoGo 1/20/2005

For starters, the server failed to tell us that the bar was under construction, rendering half of Andina's specialty drinks absent. Very annoying to spend time reading each tempting creation only to find out (after ordering) that it, along with several other drink menu entries, was unavailable. So ... with our water, we were served thinly sliced, plain French bread accompanied by three colorful dipping sauces. Colorful and unoffensive, but definitely not as palatable as described. The virginal bread was the best part of that introduction. Of the five or so small portioned, large priced tapas we ordered, only one was good. We might as well have ordered a shot of lime juice instead of Andina's ""traditional"" cebiche at $10.50. The seared Ahi was inedible - so oversmoked it threatened emphyzema. Don't let the sophisticated menu descriptions mislead you. Andina's menu is worth reading, but not worth ordering from. Pros: The bread, menu descriptions, food presentation Cons: , The food, The food more

Disappointing 12/19/2004

Andina's food is good enough, I suppose, but it's nothing to write home about. It's loud, crowded, over-priced and, as other reviewers have pointed out, the service is somewhat lacking. It's sort of a pet peeve of mine when the entrees come out while I'm still eating my appetizer, but it's *really* a pet peeve when the server rolls his eyes as we try to stack dishes and clear a spot for him to put down the plates. I might drop in again for cebiche at the bar if I'm peckish and in the neighborhood, but otherwise I won't be back. Pros: cebiche, lamb Cons: , service, price more

Truly a ""pearl"" 12/12/2004

I had a fabulous birthday dinner at Andina. The staff was friendly, and Doris absolutely made our night by stopping by our table TWICE to chat with us about the cultural significance of difference dishes. We felt like we were eating in her kitchen! You do pay for location here, but the quality of the food is excellent as well. Pros: variety of dishes, yummy dipping sauce, culture lessons! more

Order The Cebiche 11/21/2004

Wow. Skip the appetizers and just order the cebiche / ceviche / seviche....however you want to spell it :-) Unbelievable. The entrees were incredible as well, and yes, you have to order a couple of truffles for dessert! However, the appetizers were overpriced and underwhelming. Pros: Cebiche, Cebiche, Cebiche Cons: , Miniscule appetizers, Pearl parking more

So Friendly 11/18/2004

If I could sum up a wonderfully romantic , palate tantalizing, adventurous meal in one word it would be Andina. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, and friendly, the setting, warm and inviting, the food has to be tasted to be believed. Highly reccomended are the tuna steak, and the vegetable stuffed avacado. The mango salsa also out of this world, and the housemade truffles cannot be passed up no matter how good your trying to be, and the perfect bit of sweetness to finish off your meal when paired with a beautiful glass of dessert port. I will definitly return. Pros: live music, warm and intimate, lots of veg. options more

Great Cocktails! 10/26/2004

Loved the bar, loved the cocktails. The ceviche was good, another good reason for an enjoyable happy hour. However, I need never go there for dinner again. We waited 45 minutes even with a reservation. They brought us the wrong food and $18 is a bit steep for shredded lamb, rice and beans. My Peruvian friend said the food is not authentic, but provides a gentle introduction to some Peruvian flavors. Pros: cocktails, bartenders, ambiance Cons: , no coat check, price more

Don't miss this gem 10/3/2004

I have never had a better meal in my life. Do not miss this gem of a restaurant in The Pearl. I highly recommend Duck 3-Ways and the Shrimp is amazing. more

A Gem in the Pearl 9/25/2004

One of the best all-round meals in a Portland restaurant. Innovative and fabulous food - incredible flavors! Ambience is just right and the service was good. Couldn't have had a better evening out. Hope to be back many times. Pros: Flavorful food, Atmosphere, Service Cons: , AC a bit too cool more
