I've been here twice and may have to take a second job so I can go more often. The food is amazing: complex, flavorful, varied, fresh.... It's not strictly traditional Peruvian ...

Folks, my wife and I just visited Andina Peruvian restaurant after hearing/reading about much of the hype. Unfortunately, looking at the tail end of a $135 bill for a dinner for ...

best tapas 10/29/2009

the friday night live music is a great time to go. i went with my friends and the drummers and guitar made the food taste even better. i plan to go back when we have time. Pros: good selection, red sangria more

Yummy! 10/27/2009

Just got back from another fabulous dinner at Andina. There is nothing bad I can say about this restaurant, everything is delicious and the service is fantastic. Pros: delish food, great service more

Definitely one of the best 10/22/2009

Wow - I am hooked - for someone used to fine cuisine, I am not easily impressed. \r Atmosphere: hums with the energy and passion you'd expect from a latin establishment. The main dining room is somewhat stale and uninspired. I recommend the courtyard for a latin/european feel\r Reservations: highly recommended on weekends. though they have a huge capacity, it is amazing how fast they fill up.\r Service: been there twice and they've been amazing. One of the few restaurants that will change your silverwear after each course. Attention to detail and service intuition have been impeccable. \r Menu: If you like steak and potatos, what are you doing here? Chances are someone dragged you in? Try their version of the steak - you won't be dissapointed. Otherwise, it's like a kid in a candy store. Everything on the menu is amazing and highly innovative.\r Price: Regular menu items are in par to what you'd expect of a similar establisment. The tappas menu, though extremely inviting, is overpriced compared to others . They offer an extremely small portion for $8.50 which is too small even for a single person. The medium and large potion are more appropriately sized, but they run you $16-$29 smacks - that's a pricey snack.\r Overall, if you're looking for a great experience, or simply to impress, you can't go wrong here. Pros: innovative - atmosphere Cons: pricey more

Fabulous food 8/29/2009

This restaurant feels like traveling, as it is a unique experience. It's fun to try new foods and the waiters have been patient about explaining about the different food. The food is fabulous and it's great to have live music. \r \r The light coming into the restaurant is lovely and the wait staff has always been excellent, which made the long wait tolerable. Try to go early on evenings when they have music. Pros: great food Cons: sometimes there is a long wait more

Such a let down... 8/29/2009

Don't get me wrong. I have been a fan of Andina for a while now. The lamb is fantastic, and drinks are always tasty. However, my past 2 visits have been disappointing. Both times I've made reservations and had to wait over 15 minutes for my table. The first visit our party of 6 was stuffed into a 4 seater square table downstairs. After asking to be put at a table that would fit us, we waited another 20 minutes. The man who sat us was unapologetic and seemed quite put out at our request. I would think if a reservation for 6 was made a week in advance, it should have been planned out for. Not the best way to impress out of town visitors...but I was willing to overlook it. This past visit was a treat for my birthday. We were placed in the middle of the restaurant, didnt get any bread before our meal. Our plates also took over an hour to arrive. I also observed other tables asked if ""they were celebrating a special occasion"" and got dessert with a candle. After having 3 different servers throughout the night, I decided it was probably the worst birthday dinner I've had. I would expect a lot more, shame on you Andina. Pros: Good food Cons: Long waits, mediocre service more

Excellent Peruvian Food 8/23/2009

We were seated immediately ( with reservations ). The drinks were both exotic and intriguing with all of us asking what was in them. We had the tapas all around. While some would find this expensive we had a huge amount of food. Each plate was better then the last. The flavors and texture of the food always left your mouth wanting more. We also had several desserts that we passed around.. The ""Peruvian cookies"" were outstanding with the dulce de leche filling. We would all highly reccommend this restaurant!! Pros: Exotic, Delicous wide variety Cons: None other than cost more

Best restaurant in town 8/18/2009

Make sure you make a reservation way ahead of time because this place is one of the most popular in Portland...for good reasons. The food is Latin-eclectic, flavorful, beautifully presented...a gourmet's dream come true ;) Yes, it is expensive (although not over-the-top, it may surprise you) but totally worth the money. I've eaten there several times and never been disappointed. I've had fish, ceviche, chicken, quinoa with truffle oil (mmmmm...)..you name it. I thought I should write a review. Particularly after my visit to another restaurant of similar price range (the Meriwether, you can read my review on that one if you wish) and feeling completely disappointed and ripped off. Andina is my idea of the perfect restaurant. The staff is extremely attentive and efficient. The place is stylish and yet relaxed (with live music most evenings). Not pretentious AT ALL. The crowd is very mixed: from ""REI"" types in fleece and jeans to Pearl trendsetters. Don't miss this amazing place in the nicest area of town. And the food....oh, the food. Bon apetit! Pros: Delicious food and drinks, amazing service, nice atmosphere Cons: Parking in the Pearl more

Great Peruvian Cuisine 8/18/2009

Having lived in Peru and tasted many Peruvian menus, I know that this is the best of the best! I have been there several times and like any restaurant, service is sometimes slow, sometimes great--that's the name of the game (and server). So, I continue to return and take friends, a great place to dine and have a friendly conversation in the Pearl District!!! And, I'm from out of town! Pros: Authentic menu more

Great For A Celebration 7/15/2009

Andina didn't disappoint at a recent meal we hosted for friends who just got some great news requiring a celebration. Our server was fabulous and made numerous recommendations for small plate choices. She helped us choose drinks that complimented the plates chosen, and made sure that we enjoyed each item.\r \r The food here is spectacular, the service always perfect. Great for a small party, too. Pros: Food, Service, Diverse Food Items more

Disappointed 6/3/2009

After reading the positive reviews, my husband and I were looking forward to dining at Andinas. After placing our order, we waited 90 minutes before our dinners arrived. My husband's duck dinner was gamey and tough. My scallop dinner was cool (not sure it was cooked). Perhaps we were there on a bad night. The dinners were fairly expensive and our expectations were high. Pros: Fun atmosphere Cons: food and wait time more

I'm in love... 5/22/2009

i've found a new food love. each plate is something new and unexpected. the mix of flavors and spices are truly a treat. this is my new favorite in the pearl. Pros: incredible menu & great wine more

amazing/ exotic menu 5/22/2009

my boyfriend and i took our moms here for mother's day dinner. we couldn't have picked a better place. there were so many things on the menu that we intriguing, so we decided to order lots of different things to try. the nice thing is that you can order their tapas in three different sizes, so if you want to order something just for your self as an appetizer, you order the small. If you're ordering it as an entrée you can order the large. We all decided to order the medium size for each. We probably ordered 7 or 8 different things and it was more than enough. We were stuffed, but still practically licked the plates clean. The dangerous part is that they have an amazing quinoa bread that they serve with 3 different dipping sauces. I was ready to fill up on that before the meal even began! \r \r I recommend trying a bit of everything. I wouldn't know where to start! Pros: exotic & interesting flavors - amazing food Cons: too many good things on the menu more

Top dinning experience in Portland 5/6/2009

This place has some of the most fantastic South American food. It's is absolutely one of the best restaurants in Portland. You can't go wrong in choosing Andina's for a meal. Pros: As good as they get more

To SABRINA G 3/24/2009

Before you call others idiots you should check your facts. All the things you mentioned as not Peruvian are in fact staples in Peru (including stir fry, Cebiche etc). Novo-Peruvian food is a fusion of Peruvian ingredients and methods with ingredients and methods of other countries that have influenced Peru in it's long and storied history (including; China, Spain, Japan, Italy and many African countries). The great Peruvian chef Don Cucho de la Rosa was the pioneer for this type of cuisine in the 80's and has influenced most young Peruvian chefs to take up the baton and continue these wonderful marriage of flavors. It's ignorant people like yourself who preach fallacies from their high horse without knowing (or researching) the ACTUAL TRUTH. more

Great food, too expensive 3/9/2009

Andina is a great Peruvian rest. I should know since I am peruvian. But why would I pay $40 for the pollo saltado, a dish I grew up eating and can make exactly the same, when I pay 40 cents per pound for rice and only a little more for beans!? Rice beans onions, and chicken make this dish. But, it is a great restaurant. Anyone who goes MUST try the Yucca Rellenos. Stuffed yucca with cheese sauce. The mango chutney and a basil chutney served with the bread are great too!\r more

Great happy hour! 3/1/2009

My wife and I visited Andina on a Saturday evening for their happy hour. What a deal. All of their delicious drinks are $5.00 Several of the appetizers are $2-3.00 Oysters are $1.00 each. The wait staff are wonderful. Our waiter even comped my wifes second drink as he thought it took too long for the bar to make it. UNBELIEVABLE! We will return for dinner. Pros: Awesome happy hour. more

Fantasic Happy Hour!! 2/28/2009

My husband and I dined at Andina for happy hour tonight and we LOVED it! The service was phenomenal. The space was very interesting and had great ambiance. All of their signature drinks were $5 and the ones we tried were very original and delicious. The food was also fantastic, very fresh and innovative. Andina lured us in for the happy hour and we will return for dinner. We also both agreed that its the perfect place to take guests visiting Portland as an example of our eclectic and innovative food. Pros: Great happy hour drink prices and great quality more

A ok 11/4/2008

Andina is a very nice place to go and enjoy a descent meal and good company. The food quality is good, the ambiance is great, and the service always promt and effecient. I have been there a few times and have enjoyed myself everytime. I do admit, the main reason i go is for ""El Bote"" which is a fresh seafood platter for 2 lined with mussels, oysters, clams, shrimp, prawns and civiche, many different salsas and lemon, limes. This will keep me returning. The food quality is good. It is not great, but great to me is mostly local and always only used when in season. The preperation is good as well, I don't say great because a few dishes i have had have been slightly undercooked. But not so much that I would have a heartattack over.. It was just noticed. I always hate it when I read reviews about small portions costing too much. To me that is ignorant talk from inexperienced and lacking diners. People forget too often that that it is called Culinary Arts.... it is an artform. A whole package and for the most part, this restaurant deliveres that whole package. more

Great Service and Hospitality 10/20/2008

I went with a group of 40 people and we had Wonderful service and a private room the food was Excelllent. I would Recommend it To anyone who is willing to try new things i consider myself to be a picky eater and there were a few things i didnt love. But it was ordered for the group. more

I won't be going back 9/9/2008

I had been looking forward to dining here for quite a while, especially since they boost a gluten free menu. The service was great and thats why I gave it one star, but I did not think the food was worth the price, there were 5 people in our party and no one was satisfied with what they ordered, the food was terribly bland and some of the portions seemed overly small, especially for the price. I also felt the place was overcrowded but maybe some people like that. My boyfriend and I had gone another night where we actually walked out before ordering because it was so loud and crowded. That night the service was also terrible. I am really not a fussy person, and I am not someone who writes a lot of reviews but I really did not care for this restaurant and would tell a friend not to go there and to save their money for a different high end place. But if you do, hope you have a better experience:) Pros: Sometimes the service is good Cons: everything else more
