Worst Service, Unprofessional Staff 8/23/2009

Aequis is uniquely unapologetic about providing terrible customer service. It's incredulous. After calling for 4 weeks straight with no reply, they acted as if it was my fault for not being proactive enough. I actually went in to the spa to try to schedule an appointment. The woman at the front desk was especially rude. She said it was impossible for her to schedule something. Aequis is infamous for selling gift certificates and not honoring them. I have a $250 gift certificate and they refuse to give me an appointment. I will likely report them. They are selling gift certificates that you can't cash in. Pros: NOTHING Cons: EVERYTHING more

I liked it! 8/21/2009

I really enjoyed my time at Aequis. I had a fantastic facial, and the staff provided very helpful information for the future care of my skin. Most importantly, my mother is in a wheelchair and not able to speak very much, but she was still treated with the utmost respect. The staff really worked to accommodate her...all of which was enormously appreciated. Pros: warm and caring staff, excellent treatment more

Why does no one answer the phone? 8/5/2009

While I understand that they have had a change of locations recently and that that can be difficult, how do they expect to make money if no one is answering the phones? I have been calling for DAYS trying to reach someone and NO ONE ANSWERS THE PHONE. NO ONE RETURNS MY MESSAGES. Exasperated, I walked into their new building and requested to make an appointment. The woman told me to call the number and when I told her that no one answers the phone, I was AGAIN told to just "keep calling". Appalled with their horrible customer service from supposedly one of the best spas in town. What is going on over there????? Pros: none because i can't book an appointment! Cons: NO ONE ANSWERS THE PHONE more

Worst place, don't be fooled into wasting your money 7/27/2009

Aequis is all gloss and absolutely no substance or follow through. I've worked at Aequis for Megan, so I have real first hand experience at what a shoddy, pathetic operation it is. After about two weeks of working there half the staff abruptly quit because Megan was not paying them. Also, she had not paid several vendors so Aequis was unable to supply the adequate products to customers such as shampoo and conditioner for the showers. And they had run out of key cleansers for facials but had no money to buy new ones, which was an open joke to the employees. Rather than being honest to the customers and admit Aequis couldn't provide the level of service it claims, they just went right on bilking clients out of exorbitant amounts of money while providing sub-standard service at best. And don't even get me started on the cleanliness or lack there of. Absolutely horrible, like working at a fast food restaurant and never wanting to eat out again because of how disgusting things are behind the scenes. One the showers was completely off limits because of a mold infestation, that had a disgusting odor, yet nothing was done to fix the problem at all. Megan just closed the door to that shower and kept on charging clients while placing them ,and employees, in hazardous conditions. One therapist had to file a claim with the state because he was suffering symptoms of mold sickness(citysearch won't let me use the harsher word for it), but the place never shut down or tried to let customers know. Megan claims to want to help people and the universe blah, blah, blah, but at the end of the day she's just another shady business woman only interested in helping herself. Pros: Smart at duping people out of their money Cons: Bad service, zero cleanliness, terribly overpriced more

Terrible, Terrible, Terrible 7/13/2009

So, just to start I had a gift certificate given to me in March, and I could not get in until August. The only reason I was able to get in then is because I showed up at the spa and requested to speak with someone about all of the un-returned phone calls/messages/emails. Terrible customer service, they thought it was funny and didn't really seem to care that I was so frustrated with them. Then they tried to schedule me with their new therapist that had started that week! I had a friend get a $1000 full day spa certificate and the refuse to call her back and schedule her. They say they are moving, but does that give them the excuse to not call anyone back? She just wants her money back at this point, she got the gift certificate in January! She wants nothing to do with this crappy place but no one will call her back. The staff there is very unprofessional and it just seems like no one cares about the customers. Here are just a few of the unreturned attempts to speak with someone: went in thursday and the office manager was supposed to call us back, never did. Calls on 5/7, 5/18, 5/22, 5/27, 7/1 and 7/13, emails on 5/7 and 5/17. Went in again on 7/9, and there was no manager again to speak with. I would not recommend going to this spa for anything. I had another friend who went in and had the worst pedicure ever - she said that the polish chipped the next day and her feet looked worse than they did when she first walked in there. Pros: NOTHING Cons: They have the WORST customer service more

Do not bother 7/7/2009

I will just paste in the email I just sent to the company: My boyfriend and I came in several weeks ago.  I've left numerous messages for you via voicemail, with Chloe and with Timothy. In addition I emailed you at customerservice@aequisspa asking again for you to return my call. The positive is that my boyfriend enjoyed his massage with Christine.  I agree that she was professional, and he expressed that she did the job as advertised.  I had a mani/pedi performed by Brenda.  She quickly made a rude comment about the "funny looking toe nails" that I had on my pinky toes.  The pedicure appointment was filled with Brenda talking about her failed marriage, being a single parent to her children, moving back and forth from California to please her man, giving up her dreams for her ex, etc. The reflexology advertised was minimal at best. it consisted of her putting her fingers in between my toes and "rotating" my feet.  We then proceeded to the "retail area" where my manicure was performed.  As you know the retail area is the front lobby where reception receives the clients.  The advert indicated a manicure in a "candle lit room". The corners of several of my nails broke within 24 hours. I am extremely disappointed, and embarrassed that my boyfriend spent $100 for a mani/pedi at Aequis. I am further disappointed that you haven't returned any of my phone calls.  I will settle for my experience being expressed through word of mouth to any and all that ask. Pros: None Cons: $$, lack of customer service, lack of professional services more

Not what I Expected 6/29/2009

I visited the new location of Aequis and I have to say the decor is lovely. Although the staff was bending over backward to please me I truly felt that the quality of the massage was not what I was expecting. I have had similar massages in a much less lavish setting and and I have to say that they were more satisfying to me. Especially at this price point. Finally, I am not writing this review out of spite of jealousy as one reviewer suggests, I simply want to share my opinion of this business with fellow consumers. Pros: pretty decor Cons: quality of massage more

I <3 aequis 6/29/2009

I had a 90 minute massage (that went longer) to ease my muscles back in place after a fall off my horse and it was incredible. I feel so much better. Even though I'm 16 they treat me like an adult and I love it at Aequis. thanks!! Pros: everything Cons: nothing more

best in town 6/29/2009

Aequis has done it again. I've been receiving massages and facials at aequis since their first location in the pearl and have NEVER been disappointed. They always take care to remember my personal preferences and I love how peaceful the atmosphere is. I hope the obviously fake reviews below (motivated by jealousy?) don't deter anyone from having the wonderful experience I know is waiting for them at the new Aequis spot in the Pearl. Pros: feels like a mini vacation more

terrible service 6/18/2009

I bought a couples massage for my parents and although they had to wait several months for the appointment they were finally able to schedule time off work. However, no one ever called them to inform them of the change in locations. To make matters worse my mother called while on the way to confirm the address only to find out that no one would be available to give them their massages! The lady then blamed my mother for the problem! I spent several hundred dollars so that my parents could enjoy a nice massage at a place that at one time had rave reviews only to be let down. I would never recommend this spa to anyone. Don't let them waste your time more

Give Aequis a chance 6/8/2009

Give Aequis a break. Aequis was so wonderful when they first opened up years ago in the Pearl District that they were booked out for months! They re-opened in a huge gorgeous space a few years ago so that more clients could enjoy what they had to offer and not have to wait for weeks or months to get an appt. They moved back into a smaller awesome space in the Pearl District, I imagine to bring back the original intention they had in the beginning, I am not sure of this, but this is how it feels to me. If you can't get through leave messages, try again. If they have messed something up, those of you in previous reviews, it happens to the best of us anywhere, let them know, try again, it is well worth it. Thanks Aequis for continuing to pay attention to the changing needs and wants of people and our universe. I will always return! Pros: Smaller cozy space Cons: parking more

What a load of crud 6/2/2009

Megan Klein, proud founder of Aequis states, "In times of significant economic struggle that contribute to each person's fears and insecurities, we (Megan & 3 other spa owners) decided to bond together in a united force to bring wholeness, happiness and love to everyone who crosses our path..." I find this ironic due to the fact that that the opposite is true. Although I had an appointment during the "greening up" of Aequis and I was completely ignored. I would NEVER spend another dime here. It seems to be a trend lately. I suggest that you visit Fourspas dot com as Megan herself suggests. But take it a step further and see if her partners on the website treat you with the "wholeness, happiness, and love" you deserve when visiting a spa. Don't waste your time or money by making an appointment with this establishment. It has taken a nose dive and crashing as I write. Pros: none Cons: still in business more

horrible customer service 5/30/2009

I received a gift certificate for a couples massage that I decided to use for my anniversary. I made numerous phone calls and got a message that the voicemail box was full. I also sent an email to their "customer service" email account - with no answer. Finally determined that they were changing locations. On the first day at the new location, I got through and was told someone would call me back in 15 minutes - nothing. Three hours later, I called and made an appointment for their first available couples massage - 9 days later. Showed up for my appointment today and was told they had no record of my appointment. The manager was out but I was promised a phone call 30 minutes later. I AM STILL WAITING. I feel like this gift certificate is fairly worthless now. What happened to the customer service in a service industry? So far I would give them no stars for a rating but this option isn't available. Cons: complete lack of follow up/communication more

Closed for good? 5/25/2009

I received a gift certificate from a friend to use at Aequis Spa. It was to be a full day treatment for myself and a guest. Full body massage, facial, foot soak, etc. I set the appointment well in advance, called to double check up to 2 wks prior. Never received a confirmation call the day before, but I figured since I'd checked in with them already 2 wks prior, it was O.K. Went to spa on Sun 5/17 with my mom, had lined up childcare and everything. It was to be a 4 hr + treatment. Got to the location (next to Mark Spencer Hotel on SW 11th & Oak) and the place was shut down. No forwarding information. I'm SO disappointed. My friend who bought me the gift is out $500 AND the spa never called to cancel/re-schedule. So I guess I'll never get to use it. BE WARNED!!! Pros: none Cons: closed and did not notify me more

downsizing, eh? 4/28/2009

I agree with the last reviewer. The spa has been going downhill for quite some time now. Business is lacking to the point that they will be moving back to the Pearl District this week. The website says (among other BS) that the objective is to "reduce our carbon footprint" blah blah blah. What a load. They are obviously downsizing because of an extreme loss of revenues. This is because Aequis is pretentious and a rip off. Of course it sounds better to make the move sound environmentally motivated. Please, Pros: about time Cons: still around more

I was not happy about my experience 4/7/2009

I really don't get what all the fuss is about at Aequis spa. It seems to me that the owner or "founder" as she likes to throw out there over and over is really good with words and self promotion. It is a bunch of nonsense aimed at draining your wallet. You can get top notch service elsewhere without paying to support the phonies that await you at Aequis. Are they "geishas"???? Come on, now....what do you take us for. Don't bother replying with all your phony dribble, Megan Klein, FOUNDER. You have lost my business and I hope you lose yours. Many Blessings!!!!!!! Pros: ??? Cons: too expensive, snotty staff more

Amazing service and the best massage I've had in years 3/4/2009

I have been to Aequis several times and enjoyed each visit. That's why I decided to schedule a super-special night out with my boyfriend for his birthday there with a couple's massage in their tower suite. As far as romantic places and treatments go - this one is one of the best I can think of in town. We were greeted with champagne and chocolates; given a food bath and took a sensory journey (picked out our scents for our massage oil) then shown into the Tower Suite for our massages. The only regret is that I was so relaxed that I fell asleep for most of my massage - I really did try to stay awake too! It was impossible! Thank you Megan and staff for another serene and perfect visit to Aequis! more

placid, peaceful, and decadent 2/13/2009

I was in PLand on business, working a string of very long days; and decided to cap my trip with a massage. When I asked a few locals, this place was always at the top of the list, so I booked a massage & went. What can I tell you? A beautiful space - very calming and relaxing - unrushed, unhurried, and disconnected from the rest of the world. My massage was one of the finest I've ever had. Next time I'm in Portland... more
