Disasterous Experience at Austin Regional Clinic 2/16/2007

If you are looking for the "Mcdonald's of Drive Thru Medicine", then ARC is your kinda place. The staff is very friendly but many of these hires (apparently the turnover is frequent) do not know insurance and you will most likely be given a difficult time. I, for one, was told by the receptionist in Round Rock that I needed a referral -- and she got real nasty, shoved a form at me and said I must sign it -- until I took my insurance card back and showed her in the corner where it said "full access, no referral necessary" ! And I had been a patient there for a year and previously no one ever treated me that way. Not so much as an apology from the young lady. I was forced to make an appointment (even though many tell me a telephone call by the MD to the pharmacy is sufficient) just to get my long time prescription changed to a generic type. I then was kept in the little examination room for 70 minutes -- no exaggeration -- 70 minutes!!! At the 30 minute mark I finally inquired and was told "you are next" before another 40 minutes elapsed. Then when he entered the room, the physician inquired why they made me pay for an appointment when it was a simple Rx renewal as generic! And when I remarked that I'd been waiting for 70 minutes -- he said well, that's just the way medicine is !!!!!!!!! Ha! He wouldn't dare let someone keep him waiting, you can bet. So that was the bad experience and when you want to bring it up to a customer service oriented owner of the practice -- good luck! They don't want to hear it in the McDonalds of Drive Thru Medicine. more
