The Baltimore Museum of Art, called the BMA by locals, is one of my favorite art museums in the world. It's not a huge museum, but what it lacks in size it makes up in collections. The BMA consists of several permanent galleries, including the famous Matisse-packed Cone Collection, an impressive furniture and decorative arts wing, and jewelry and miniature collection, in addition to one large traveling exhibits gallery. The changing exhibits are almost always blockbuster, with recent shows being the Ballet Russe, Impressionists, and Turner's Watercolors and Guash. There's also a huge section of modern and abstract art; while it's not my favorite, it's quite impressive in scale and scope. There's also an outdoor sculpture garden, indoor courtyard, theater, exceptional café, and a fantastic gift shop. Hopkins students used to be able to get in free if they showed their student ID. Programming is plentiful here, so be alert for fantastic evening performances, family art workshops, and gallery talks.

This museum has some of the coolest modern art I have ever seen. Everything from a live and working Coney Island replica to face masks painted by mentally disabled people. They change the artwork a lot during the year so be sure to check it out often. The tree outside th eback is filled with pieces of glass which is also real cool. Since it's right next to the inner harbor there are plenty of other places to visit while you are there.

This place was really coll. $11 per person and worth every penny. There is a huge tree fort 3 stories high that the children and even adults can climb inside. That alone occupies a good hour. For the toddlers there is an exploration room with no big kids so they can jump into the ball pit or play on the mini tree fort. There are several different rooms for the children such as the arts and crafts room and the music are where they can learn about music.
Make sure you have a whole day set aside for this place because your kids will never want to leave.
PROS: activities will last all day, worth the money
CONS: parking was difficult and added to the expenses

Check out the Babe Ruth Museum only minutes away from Camden Yards! This place is filled with baseball memorbilla and priceless pictures. This place not only feature the Babe, but also has the archives of The Baltimore Orioles and Colts. I went to a corporate event before an Oriole's home game and was impressed.

I really dont care for trains, but when I was invited to go to the B&O Railroad Museum I said why not. To my surprise I really had a great time. I was really happy on how much there was for my 2 year old to do there. They have a train ride, a train play ground, and a REAL train ride that goes a mile or so down the track. She cried when it was time to leave. I will be back there for sure!!!

The best thing about the Maryland Science Center is that you can go over and over and never run out of new things to do and see. There are constantly rotating exhibits in addition to dozens of permanent fixtures. It's a great opportunity for parents to learn with their kids. Don't forget to check out the IMAX theater!

Mud & Metal is a very unique boutique located on the Avenue in Hampden. Much like it's surrounding area, Mud & Metal carries art and giftware with an interesting combination of kitsch and cool. If you're looking for a gift for the person who's got everything, this may be a place to come--they carry all sorts of weird things from drawer handles to humorous cards. It's always a fun trip, even if you're just browsing.

When I walked into the museum I thought the staues were real people. For such a small space this mseum has really gotten the spark to retell history no matter when the size of the museum is. The museum was overwhealming with history and I left feeling as if I was on the slaveships with them or sitting next to Rosa Parks. This is a great place for a family weekend outing or to learn some history!
Pros: feel of time, lifelike statues
Cons: small space

Me and my grandmother and three kids went here one weekend in October looking to try something new and exciting. We came back from the class and were hooked on clay and ceramic making. The class was very basic but loads of fun for all ages. Non profit organization that teached you to be artistic.

This is a different museum, that's for sure! It's devoted entirely to dentistry. It talks about replacement teeth and how it's gone from ivory to porcelain, has mouthguards and teeth from famous individuals in history, and has a lot of facts about the practice of dentistry, the development of novacaine, etc. Unique and fun!
