The Golden West Cafe is what Cafe Hon wants to be, I think---or something like that. They have a similar funky atmostphere and decor with mismatched chairs and dishes and flatware, but the Golden West Cafe's menu is way more interesting and the food is much better. The service was quick and friendly. It can be a little drafty in winter so be sure to wear a sweater.

The Daily Grind is a creatively-named Baltimore coffee shop (with several satellite carts on the Hopkins' East Baltimore campus). I've found the service to be friendly and efficient. Prices are comparable to Starbucks and Gloria Jeans, so why not support local? Additionally, if Johns Hopkins doctors trust it as their main source of caffeination, that's good enough for me.

The Evergreen is the perfect place for a lazy Sunday morning with a great cup of coffee and a yummy breakfast. It's also a great place to study or read the paper on the weekends. Great location, great service. Highly recommend.

Hard Rock Cafe in Baltimore's Power Plant provides awesome acoustics and atmosphere. As a matter of fact, my favorite local band recorded their second CD live at the Hard Rock. Inside, there is plenty of room for dining set away from the band or you can have your food sent to the bar. Outside, in the Summer, bands perform on the deck by the water and the tiki bar. There's nothing like frozen margarita, outside with your favorite band, at the Hard Rock Cafe!
Pros: lots of seating, awesome acoustics, could bring family
Cons: downtown parking

This is a nice little Vietnamese restaurant located near the Senator Theatre. The food is pretty good - better than most in Baltimore, but no way near the best I've ever had. Try the Pho if you've never had Vietnamese food. It's a large bowl, and you'll get basil, cilantro, bean sprouts, etc. to put in it. All very fresh. Pho supposedly has healing properties and is a food many seek out when they're feeling sick. Decent value for the money.

I have eaten here a bunch of times and have always enjoyed it. The pizza is among my favorite of all time---thin chewy crust with really interesting, delicious combinations of toppings. One individual pizza is enough if you're really hungry, and is also big enough to share if you're not starving. The hummus and other middle esatern dishes are great, too. The menu isn't huge but it's very varied so even a motley crew of eaters will all be happy with something or other. Service is very friendly and quick. Atmosphere is comfortable and quiet with big windows looking out onto the city streets.

I know that in theory I am supposed to hate Starbucks because it represents globalization and evil companies...but their coffee is so good. I've never had anything at Starbucks that wasn't great. My personal favorite is the Caramel Macciato. The best part is that you can customize your drinks, such as with skim milk. The coffee is wonderful.

Patterson Perk is great coffee shop and is dog friendly! They have piping hot mocha lattes and a variety of baked goods. They have coffee to suit everyone's tastes. It's a wonderful place to go when you are taking a walk through Patterson Park. Sometimes it gets pretty crowded so it's best to go early in the morning. Also, the staff is semi-friendly.

Thankfully, a new Daily Grind has opened in Canton. It's in the old Firehouse. It's the coolest place! The ambiance is amazing. It's set up with an old firehouse feel. The decor is great, shabby chic couches, really clean, friendly staff, homemade sandwiches and salads, gourmet desserts like Dangerously Delicious Pies, Jr's cheesecake from NY and Moxley's Ice Cream. They even have a fireman sliding down a pole. If you want great coffee in a cool coffee house, you've got to go to the Daily Grind, aka The Firehouse Grind on O'Donnell Square.
