TRY IT FOR YOURSELF!! 10/16/2010

This is, hands down, my favorite sushi place around Portland. I have hooked my husband and best friend (she used to always insist on Mio)!! Sure, the ladies are on the serious side, but I would never describe them as rude. I go there for the amazing sushi...Texas roll, Spider roll, Thai roll...all my favorites! more

Sushi Lovers BEWARE 11/8/2009

I went to this resturaunt with some friends on a Wednesday night for Happy hour and when we got there we were treated as if we weren't welcome. The woman who seated us was completely rude and didn't even try to pretend to have a good attitude. It gets worse.....I found a worm inside my edamame shell....after already putting it in my mouth. This was the WORST experience ever and needless to say I couldn't eat another thing from this resturaunt but I still had to pay for the meal!!! Don't go---trust me Pros: nothing Cons: everything more

Should be called Yucky-Sushi 7/28/2009

I ate at Yuki Sushi on a Sunday. I know sushi on a Sunday? Bad idea. My albacore nigiri tasted less than fresh. And that less than fresh cost me later. I totally got sick. Maybe they're good on other nights, but man, stay away on Sunday. There's no weekend fish market, so all fish is from Friday... word to the wise. Cons: tight seating, non inventive menu more

Bad food, bad service! 9/16/2008

I was here with a Japanese friend to try something new. The waitress didn't greet us and she didn't smile when she waited on us either. I understand that she doesn't like being a server, but don't take it out on the customers. I was impressed by their sushi roll menu, but when I tried it, it didn't amaze me at all. The sushi rice didn't have much vinegar, which it's suppose to. When I ordered Oyako donburi, it was terrible. They simply had rice, fried an egg and put teriyaki sauce over the chicken. It wasn't Oyako donburi at all. Where is the mirin in there! I will never come back here again. Any sushi restaurant that serves imitation crab, bad sushi rice, bad service and bad donburis is not worth it. Even my foreign Japanese friend thinks it's bad. Koji Osakaya is way better down the street. Check out the one in Gresham. That Koji's is one of the best! Saburo is not bad. One time order, but big rolls. Rice could be better. Still better than this place. more

Worst Customer Service EVER!!! 8/7/2008

Like most reviews for Yuki, it was the poor service that will determine my final visit to Yuki. My boyfriend and I have gone there at least 6-8 times over the last few years, but last night was the last draw. I brought a friend who had never been there before, and was hoping to show her a good night, but it turned out to be another horrible service experience at Yuki. Pros: Some of the fish sushi was OK Cons: The poor service was so bad that were never going there again!!! more

Sit at the bar, and whatever you do don't bring all of your friends with you to eat. 7/25/2008

I am a sushi guru. In every city I have ever been to I have found a good, a bad, and a you have to try that place. In Ptown I would say Yuki is my Good one. I can always count on decent service, atmosphere, and leftovers. Yuki has a great many different rolls such as the KFC roll with fried chicken & cream cheese, the Cherry Bomb with peanut sauce & cherries with crab salad, but best of all is the Hurricane roll with it's tempura shrimp, avacado, Spicy Tuna & Seaweed on top. I want to order two of them when I go. There have been a couple of times when I have not enjoyed my visit to Yuki. Whatever you do don't go with group of more than 6. The service gets a bit ragged and the fish is nearly invisible. Also for the best experience sit at the bar, and order what looks good, not the specials. Pros: The Hurricane roll, the cherry bomb, and the caterpillar... Cons: Large groups, and special orders. more

nasty sushi - Yuki is yucky 6/13/2008

i'm not sure how all of the reviews are so good. my gf and I went here on a weekday. we were seated promptly and service was average. food, on the other hand, was nasty. some of the worst sushi i've ever had - definitely the worst in portland that I've tried. they offered a lot of variety of rolls that aren't offered at other restaurants, but after you try one of them, you'll know why - the combinations don't go well together! it makes it worse cause the fish isn't super fresh. also, the rolls came with too much rice and too little fish. there's plenty of options for better sushi in portland: syun, sinju, maki, even mio sushi! go somewhere else. Pros: miso soup? Cons: bad sushi - too much rice, not the freshest fish, bad sauces/combinations more

Yuki is Yummy! 3/17/2008

Yummy Vegetarian Sushi 3/7/2008

Vegetarians love sushi too, but sometimes the standard avocado roll, inari, veggie roll, and cucumber roll can get a bit boring. I really appreciate a sushi restaurant that puts thought into making something exciting for vegetarians. I love the Buddha roll. The Thai roll, Cherry Blossom roll and the Popeye roll are also very good. The presentation of the food is very fun too. more

Horrible 1/16/2008

The restaurant is located in convenient NE Broadway, so my husband and I went on our first date night after our child was born. I am half Japanese and was craving good sushi and tempura. The waitress was rude and seated us without saying hello. She glared at me while I ordered my food. The sushi was okay, but I could tell that the tuna was not top grade. My tempura and agedashi tofu arrived in my bento box. Both were just terrible! Our bill came to over $60.00 and my husband and I felt cheated. It's just another example of why it's so important to find Japanese owned restaurants. The Korean's have taken over the Japanese restaurants in Portland and instead of sticking to making wonderful Korean food, they have decided to open up mediocre Japanese restaurant because there is more money to be made. I guess if you are not accustomed to eating true Japanese food - you may find Yuki's to be the best place in town! How unfortunate. Pros: Prompt seating Cons: Rude Waitress and horrible food more

What do I think of all the delicious foods? 12/1/2007

I enjoy eating at yuki, the sushis and the other foods aren't bad. I went there multiple times and I'm like already addicted to it lol. Well people, enjoy the foods because you'll never know what else is new. I went with friends after I came back from the mall and the rolls were the goodest lol. I also went with my family and you know they enjoyed eating it too. Yes there's also full of customers and it gets crowded because it's a pretty small building inside. more

Freshest sushi, Simply Delicious! 8/28/2007

I've been going to Yuki(ne broadway, was told 23rd location is not related) for the past 4yrs or so and I still love their food and very happy with the friendly staffs. From freshest fishes to lobster rolls and crunchy rolls are must try at Yuki! Open all day long unlike many other japanse places is another plus! Pros: fresh sushi, good service Cons: parking more

Good food, lazy service 8/15/2007

Though I think their sushi is pretty good(but a little spendy), I didn't think their service is very good. I've eaten there numerous times because it's so close to work but it's not my favorite. They never check on you, never offer more water, you can try to get their attention and they still won't look at you. My husband was like the waiter there. I can't count how many times he had to get up one night just for more water, chopsticks, wassabi, napkins. It was kind of annoying. The best I've had in the Portland area is Toshi in Hillsboro on 185th. They are so nice, you get free soup and salad with your sushi order. It's cheaper and tastes awesome! Pros: good sushi Cons: bad service more

Two big strikes and they're out! 8/9/2007

The food is generally good but I've had two bad experiences at the NW 23rd Yuki Restaurant which, taken together, are preventing me from returning. In the first, I found a big, long hair rolled into my California Roll. Then, on a separate visit, I was served a completely different type of sushi than what I had ordered, so I asked to have it replaced. The waitress insisted that I try what was brought to me first and then, only if I didn't like it, would they make my correct order. It felt like my mother telling me I had to try what was on my plate. I walked out. more

Can you say Yucky? 8/8/2007

I had lunch at Yuki the other day and walked out with a Yuck face. First off the cucumber salad didn't have the right dressing, making it tastless. The miso was very bland too. My bento combo with teriaki slamon and ginger beef was terrible. The tiny salad was the best thing about the bento. If a Japanese joint can't make rice right then they have serious problems, it wasn't sticky and a too hard. The beef was over cooked and totally tasteless, I didn't taste any ginger at all, just soy sauce. The tiny piece of salmon was over cooked as well, it was hard like plastic. Even the pork gyoza sucked! Pros: nice atmosphere and service Cons: food is YUCKY! more

Quality Sushi, Excellent service and a great ambience 9/11/2006

Overall you really can't go wrong with Yuki. The staff is warm and welcoming and really gives the feeling that you are their guest. From California Rolls to Teriyaki Chicken, the dishes are really delightful. I wasn't a sushi connoisseur prior to eating here. Now I truly can not get enough of it. Pros: Ambience, Parking, Service Cons: N/A more

Relatively quick service and great take-out! 7/12/2006

I go to Japanese restaurants all the time and am always looking for good ones, but seem disappointed quite often. I like Yuki's a lot and think the atmosphere is very nice and old-fashioned. The service is good and the food is tasty, but what I cannot get over is how good the takeout is! I had never had Japanese takeout before because I always have Japanese food at home, but this was the first time and I was impressed! The tempura and chicken katsu takeout was so good I ate both..... Anyways, Yuki's is very good. Sure it's not MUGI, but it's a great alternative! more

Take out takes too long 6/14/2006

The sushi and the chicken teriyaki are really yummy, but avoid the take out. The two times we ordered to-go, we called 15 minutes ahead and still waited. Recently, we waited 20 minutes in the restaurants after we were told on the phone it would take 20 minutes for the food to be ready. When we arrived the hostess told us the chicken teriyaki was ready and that the sushi would be ready shortly...20 minutes later we received our food. The teriyaki sat, steaming in its container, while the hostess tried to get a sushi chef to fill our order. After heating the teriyaki on home on a skillet, the soba noodles ended up mushy. more

Good food, but forgetful staff 6/10/2006

We expected to be wowed by Yuki, considering the high reviews on Citysearch, but was not. Perhaps all the name recognition it received made it try w/ less effort for customer satisfaction. My boyfriend and I came here for dinner, was seated in corner niche of the restaurant (first sign of the negligence to come) and our orders were not taken until we flagged down the bustling waitress. BTW, restaurant was not all filled. The party next to us, who had been waiting for their check, was glad that we managed to get the waitress to come our way. Food was good (korean beef bbq, assorted sushi rolls), but nothing extraordinary to compel us to come back. Pros: Okay food, outside seating, convenient location Cons: Unattentive service, especially if seated at corner of rest. more
