The owner and staff are very friendly, and I had great service. Great selection of wine. Happy hour wine at $4 a glass. Cozy atmosphere with a variety of seating options. ...

We ordered med-rare and got over-done. Probably the worst burger experience of my life. McDonald's would have been better than the cardboard we were served. I've never had a ba...

Where Everyboby Knows Your Name 3/10/2003

Wine down is the perfect place to unwind after work. The people are great, the food is wonderful, try the cream of potato soup with a glass of Founders Reserve Pinot Noir. The best I've had in a long time. I highly recomend Wine Down. Pros: Inexpensive, Great food, nice wine selection Cons: street parking more

My Fave PDX Wine Bar! 3/8/2003

Wine Down is a nice, classy and friendly place where I always feel welcome and cozy. I love the decor and especially the private booth seating and fireplace / couches area. At Wine Down, I always get some great wines and food at a decent price and without the elitist attitude and costs that I was starting to think was de rigueur, with wine bars. I must say, I am saddened by reading some local restaurant reviewers stroke their own fragile egos by discounting Stu's heart felt wine bar efforts with some not-so-nice comments. Cheers to Stu for his motivated efforts in making a fun and welcoming wine bar finally possible - leaving the snide wine bar elitism to the downtown, ultra-luxury SUV crowd. Check out Wine Down for yourself and be prepared for a refreshing experience! Pros: friendly, cozy, nice decor Cons: kinda hard to find more

The People's Wine Bar 3/4/2003

I don't know about the owner giving us a hug like they stated in the other review--he didn't. We have been testing the local Wine Bars and have found this one to be great. The ambiance is excellent and unhurried and the owner sat and talked with us about his business for a long time. His wine bar is just open and looks like it is going to only get better with time. What we love the most: The tab doesn't come until you ask for it. No, ""Here's your hat what's your hurry?"" Like some places. Pros: Friendly, Reasonable Price, Ambiance Cons: None to speak of. more

Great to wine down!! 12/11/2002

It is refreshing in this day when every business is trying to be the newest and hottest to find a place where you can just relax. Wine Down is just that place. The owner will greet you with a big smile and make you feel like you are at a friends' house. The menu is full of familiar dishes, but with an elegant twist. The wine list may not be extensive, but it is a good selection with flavors you will recognize. If I go out to have a nice time I don't want question what my food or drink will resemble. Wine Down does a great job of giving you a nice night out with out spending a fortune on food or drink you could never pronounce to your friends. The working fireplace is a nice touch on the cold winter nights. more

Wine Down and relax 12/7/2002

These negitive comments. For years that street has been unsafe at night. Wine Down has helped us regain our street. Thanks! They are a part of our neighborhood. The owner will greet you with hug and smiles. Menu's good but try the ""specials"", especially Stuffed Portobella"". The ambience is perfect. Low lights, and good music make the place. The fireplace and booths are cozy. There's usually live music. Service is fine (what someone wears doesn't effect my judgement ). The winelist could use more pours for comparison like 2 Pinot's and 2 Shiraz's. As for Freddys... Freddys not only a huge, but awesome selection and every store has a ""wine steward"". I don't think any winebar can have a complete winelist without finding more then a few bottles from Freddy's. WD's just made it easier to find the right ones. Wine Down isn't about sophistication it's just about whing down! Pros: Fireplace, comfortable furniture, cozy Cons: better menu, needs signs more
