Bland overpriced food, but great atmosphere! 3/23/2009

Had a small personal pizza about 8 inches (Bland as chef boyardee) and a can of coke - price: $13.27 Husband had a Rachel sandwich and the Chevre app, a bottle of reeds ginger brew, and a creme puff Total for him - about $30, for real! I would never eat there again, but would go for the coffee and desserts. Pros: Comfortable, WIFI, good coffee and desserts Cons: Food is mediocre at best and EXTREMELY expensive more

Requires a few tweaks! 1/29/2009

Atmospher is SO relaxing here. Nice lighting, browns, artwork, fireplace, live music, variety of seating options. The coffee is the best in town. The desserts are to die for. I think the food is trying too hard. Most is very good (I do not like the salad dressing) but I think would better if they had some good, hearty, home cooking. Think soups, salads, meat loaf, mac/cheese, bread pudding, etc. A great spot none-the-less Pros: Coffee, Desserts, Ambience Cons: Weird intersection makes parking semi-difficult to access, fancy food more

Horrible food 5/24/2008

I live in the neighborhood and I really wanted to love this place...but I can't. I have been here several times and the only thing on the menu that is good are the cornmeal pancakes for brunch/breakfast. The rest of it...bland, dry, tasteless and overpriced. Oh, don't forget the rude service on the side. The lattes are good too and that's about it. One more thing, I strongly question the sanitation of the place...my boyfriend swears he saw creature scurrying across the floor but in an effort not to scare the s**t out of my mother he kept quite. Go down the street to Brasa or the Bulldog for good food and friendlier people. Pros: The interior is cool and unique Cons: Pretty much the rest more

Disapointed...not too veggie friendly-be careful, there are some things that seem vegetarian and are not 4/10/2008

I ate here on the recommend of a friend...it was not very good. I am a vegetarian and so is my husband. We later found out that our order contained gelatin. Very sad. I was also upset due to the fact that there was no where to sit. The place was packed with single people and their laptops-we did ask someone who was just nursing a cup of coffee if we could share the table with him. (it sat 4) He just left. Oh well..this is maybe an ok place if you just want some coffee or a dessert-I certainly would not eat here again. Also, the bill was 45.00 (inc tip) for 2. Yikes! more

Meh 4/4/2008

This place is okay. The coffee is good, as are the pastries and sweet treats but the entrees are too pricey for what they are. And what they are, what they is, is dry and kind of tasteless. I had the mac and cheese and a salad and it wasn't worth the money. Honestly, save your money...we're in a recession! Pros: Good atmosphere Cons: Lousy service, poor tasting food--very bland more

Favorite new hangout! 10/20/2007

Since my first visit just a few months ago, Wilde Roast has quickly become my new favorite place to meet up with friends for a good catching up session. The layout and choice of seating really encourage Wilde's patrons to sit and chat for hours upon end. It's warm and inviting, the drinks and desserts are fabulous (don't miss the pumpkin pie! It's simple, but so good!), and the food is for the most part very good. Despite a few minor disappointments, I've found that both their Reuben and artichoke dip are the best in town; the Reuben is not in the least greasy and the sauerkraut on it is amazing, and the artichoke dip is made with REAL chunks of artichokes, cream, and just the right amount of cheese (versus your too parmasean-y varieties). I was slightly disappointed by their version of the French dip (I don't understand the mayo on it) and the grilled cheese could have used a salty ingredient - but all the ingredients were fresh and in good proportion. more

Kill the Wireless 4/1/2006

Thanks god they killed the wireless on the weekends. The place was too busy and I didn't like to go there, but now that the wireless is gone so are the students who camped out for hours. Now I don't mind telling my friends to meet me at the Wilde Roast because we can find a place to sit. This is what Oscar would have wanted! more

I love/hate this place 2/14/2006

I have a love/hate relationship with this cafe. I can't stop coming in because the coffee and atmosphere are just THAT wonderful. However, I feel compelled to point out the disparity between the cost of food and portion size. Pros: Good Parking, great cofee Cons: Portion sizes too small for price. more

There's No Place Like the Roast 11/30/2005

As a Northeast resident, every time I want to relax and read with a cup of java or do some work, I end up in the cozy chair at Wilde Roast next to the fireplace. As a straight, single 25-year old female, the unpretentious atmosphere of intellectual fashionable gay men is a dream. The big creamy lattes and gorgeous desserts are a must. The food menu.....doesn't always appeal to my mood. Everything seems to have one quirky ingredient that makes me not want to order it. (grilled cheese with apples?) HOWEVER, when I do, I get over it quickly because the food is excellent and freshly made. The warm and inviting atmosphere makes me feel like I can sit there as long as I want instead of being bustled along with a string of coffee-to-go people. Pros: Decor, Coffee drinks, Desserts Cons: some of the food, food ordering line, can be crowded more

Great place! 8/25/2005

Very very good atmosphere. A lot of comfy seating and...A nice classy space. Coffee is excellent. Desserts are excellent. The BROWNIES (sitting by the cash register) are truly AMAZING!! Talk about love in the tummy. Add in live music and various events and we have a winner with great people-watching clientele. Mix of sophisticated older women, local yuppies, straight, homosexual. I love the city. Food needs a lot of work. Trying to be too fancy. I'd say stick with a baked brie, crab cakes, maybe a brushetta, fresh salads with a variety of house made dressings, caprese, and just some basic fresh sandwhiches. Owners need to readdress ONLY the food. more

So-So 5/31/2005

Some days the salad dressing tastes fine and other days it tastes like spicy soap. I would welcome a few more vinaigrettes to choose from. Their pizzas leave much to be desired way too doughy. It would be nice to be able to order off the regular menu on weekends instead of only brunch until 2pm. The best menu item is the crab cake salad (change the bread though!) The premise of building a coffee/sandwich joint with Oscar Wilde as the theme is a little obvious and cheesy, but they serve Bubble Up so I will forgive them that. Pros: parking, good beverages, real crab! Cons: pizzas, cafeteria ordering, bread more

come here for dessert! 4/4/2005

Charming place, delicious desserts. Am already plotting my return for their brownies, which are really, really, really good. more

Really great atmoshphere and food 12/14/2004

We went around noon on a Saturday morning and had fast counter service. The food was great and the coffee drinks were very large for their prices. The line got a little out of control later in the afternoon as people kept entering through both the front and back doors. The high table seating could be rearranged to allow for a more definitive line. Otherwise this is a great spot. Looking through the rest of their menu and seeing what other patrons ordered definitely made me want to go back and try other dishes. Pros: Great food, Decent value, Great atmosphere more
