I am writing to thank you for the lovely job you did on my fiancee's engagement ring. When we came to Whitefire, we were disenchanted with the other jewelry stores we had been to (both chain and independent). Others had brushed us off when they learned that we wouldn't be buying our center stone from them. They looked at the smaller family stone with which I had proposed to my fiancee and told us that, "it would be hard to find a setting for a stone that size," and commented on its odd shape and flaws. Malcolm met with us several times to make sure he had a design that my fiancee would love, and ultimately, he created a setting for my family stone that exceeded our expectations. He did a beautiful job of creating a setting that looks like something the stone might originally have been placed in. I worked with Malcolm on my engagement ring in March-April. I wanted an untraditional ring, with an antique look and only sapphires. The abundance of positive reviews on Citysearch let me know Whitefire was the place to go. I first reached out with an email through their website and Malcolm called me shortly after to talk about what I was looking for and what budget I wanted to be at. I brought a lot of pictures of designs I liked to our first meeting and Malcolm spent about an hour sketching out designs after looking over the pictures and a book of standard stone sizes (so he could make a new design that wouldn't require custom cutting, which takes more time & money). It was a lot of fun watching him sketch all these awesome designs with just paper & pencil--it actually looked liked sparkling stones! Even though it was just a pencil sketch, I knew when we had the final ring--it looked perfect. The computer-generated images later on were fun to see too. I'm glad they had final measurements on them since the sketch couldn't be exact. It took about 8 weeks for the whole process but it was well worth it. I was searching for the perfect engagement ring. I was going to be in Austin for business and stumbled upon the website for Whitefire and decided to give them a call to schedule an appointment. I spoke to Joseph Villarreal on the phone and I shared with him the details of the diamond that I was looking for. Once we sat down to look at the diamond that Joseph had found for me at no point during our meeting did he push me to buy it or to sell me something more expensive or something that I was not looking for nor did he exaggerate the characteristics of the diamond; he was not a salesperson but a connoisseur sharing his information with me. He actually found a better diamond that I had asked for and he kept his compromise of working within my budget. I went to WhiteFire on a whim, after moving to Austin TX, from Boston MA. I had spent a few months in Boston going to high end commercial and family owned jewelry stores, and being discouraged by the very high prices, and overwhelmed by the seemingly endless barrage of information. WhiteFire was the first place I called when I arrived in Austin. When I called WhiteFire Diamonds, and spoke to Malcolm Brown, he made the process very simple and laid everything out right in front of me. He got all the hard questions out of the way, budget, time-line, etc. Once that was settled, it made the experience incredibly stress free. Whitefire and I have just completed a very special project that took about three months but was definitely worth it. I lost my husband to cancer some time ago and wanted to create a piece of jewelry out of my and his engagement/wedding rings, something that I can always wear (but not another ring). I had yellow and rose golds, a diamond solitaire and diamond bagettes. Now try and put it together in a new piece when you are not even sure what this new piece should be! Another complication was that Whitefire is in Austin while I am in Houston. Well, we did it all by mail and email and to my own surprise it worked. Now I have a fantastic diamond pendant, with the solitaire and bagettes set in the very pale rose gold (a mix of my yellow and rose golds). The design is exquisite and absolutely one of a kind. My fiancé went to Joseph at Whitefire to buy my engagement ring. He couldn't decide on the setting he liked, so he bought the center diamond and proposed to me with a solitaire ring. He had an appointment set for us the next day to pick out the setting and the wedding band. Let me just say it was so much fun picking it out!! Joseph was extremely helpful. My Fiance and I started our search for someone to make the engagement ring I had envisioned. We have friends in the jewelery business and they all said the design was rather complicated and told us that they thought we needed someone with real experence in complicated designs or frankly that we should find something that was pre-made that was close. We met with both Whitefire and a competitor here in Austin that also designs custom diamond jewlery. After several meetings, Malcom had prepared detailed drawings and provided us with a wealth of information about the various metal choices and options we had as he designed the engagement ring set. With the competition we had basically nothing, no drawings, and ballbark estimates of cost that were almost twice that of Whitefire's and a lot of mis-information about our metal choices. What was most refreshing was that even though we already had the center diamond (a family heirloom), Malcom gave us the attention and commitment he would have given any customer that was also going to buy the "big" diamond from Whitefire. Malcom is a true artist, and his personal pride in his work was inspiring. Malcom told us he wanted to make our vision a reality and he was gonna do what he could to make it fit our budget. When I found whitefire, I had been looking for a wedding band for quite some time. I went from jewelry shop to jewelry shop and could never find anything I liked. Everything looked the same and the salespeople had no idea what they were talking about. I finally decided that custom was probably going to be the answer for me. I did an internet search for custom jewelers in Austin and found this place. I decided I would give it a shot; however, I wasn't too anxious due to the many unsuccessful attempts I had already had so I put ring shopping on hold for a bit.
