Editorial review from Citysearch 4/9/2013

The menu for this place sounds amazing, but the food and the service are really quite terrible. There are so few edible places in Denver that are vegan friendly and it breaks my heart to avoid such a place. But it's just not worth it. more

Good Food, Bad Service 2/13/2011

If this review was simply on the food, I would give it 5 plus stars. I LOVE everything on the menu, I am vegan so options for me are scarce (if you don't want to live on salad). \r Bad part is the service, I get the feeling since it's veg and vegan that the staff are laidback - really laidback. You may see them once throughout your dinner. I don't want uptight or uniformed employees, but sometimes you have to act like you like your job even if you don't. more

Best Vegan Breakfast in Denver 1/29/2011

I'm obsessed with their VEGAN CHEESE plate (man oh man), breakfast menu, and dessert (Boston Cream Cake)!!!! yummmmmmmmmm more

Not bad 11/28/2010

Food is pretty good, atmosphere could be better. Fun to watch tatted-up hippie staff but they should mix in a bath..they look a little dirty. Fresh ingredients. more

Good for take-out if you get there early for lunch 7/23/2010

I have heard negative things about the staff at Watercourse, but since I always get my food to go, it's never been an issue. I am not a vegetarian and usually at vegetarian places I have a hard time ordering, but this place has a lot to choose from. Especially if you're not into 'healthy' eating. LOL I always get the Jimmy Wrap, it's my fav (with greek salad and hummus in a HUGE wrap that's always fresh and delicious). I call in my order at 10:45 and get there by 11 to get a parking space, otherwise it's pretty hard to find a spot. Pros: Great tasting food Cons: Parking can be a pain more

Great Food Subpar Service 5/11/2010

I have been coming here for years, even prior to the move to their current location. It used to be low key friendly service with great, creative food. Over the years the food quality remains but the staff attitude deteriorates weekly. Service is slow (try to get out in less than 2 hrs, even on a slow night.) and inattentive (you see your server twice - when they take your order and drop your check. Good luck with refills). Even the host staff has a talent for ignoring people standing 3 inches in front of the podium. I want so badly to love this place especially since I'm a vegetarian, but the reality is that I cringe when somone suggests it. more

I'm finicky & LOVE these guys 3/3/2010

I have ZERO idea as to what these guys are talking about in their negativity towards this place. I've been there at least 10 times and always got good food and service. I also know tons of people who like this place as well. Perhaps some items are more on the healthy side, but if you're not used to eating vegetables and stuff that's not deep fried, I guess you might have a problem with those things. They do have tons of stuff to eat, though, and I've a hard time believing you couldn't find something you'd enjoy if you'd give it the chance.\r The ONLY negative I can come up with for this place is that they're not the quickest. So if you need to run in and out, perhaps this isn't the best choice. But everything else has always been great, even the water is better than most restaurants, and I've always had seriously good service. Pros: tasty & socially responsible Cons: slow more

Food and Service-UGH!! 7/21/2009

I am on a constant breakfast quest to find the best deal, best food and best service. The Water Course ran a ""Blue Plate"" breakfast special and I decided to give it a try. As one of the first customers one morning, I was surprised to find that they were not ready to receive customers. The coffee was not brewed and when it came it had grounds floating in it. I ordered sweet potato home fries only to find out that they cost more than the ad stated( please see the microscopic asterisk in the ad). When I agreed to pay the surcharge I was informed that the deep fryer was not on and I could not get the home fries-brown rice instead. The biscuit/scone I opted for was not fresh nor warmed to disguise that fact. The service was halfhearted and inattentive-I hate having to catch a waiter to get a coffee refill! Overall, a poor experience and one I don't wish to repeat. It's on my list!! Pros: Nothing Cons: Poor food, mediocre service. more

service with anger and grief 2/4/2009

I foolishly went here to pick up some vegan breakfast burritos. Boy, what a shock when the fragile, yet angry bearded boy working the counter verbally attacked me for asking his opinion on which of the dishes would be best served the next day. After being put in my place, and too shocked to flee the Water Course like any sensible person would have, I actually opted to spend money on the food (I repeat, definitly some serious shock going on)It is a sad thing when one person's bad attitude can ruin an otherwise fun experience, which is most definitly the case here. Maybe someone needs to give this little man a hug---or, gasp gasp---some bacon. \r I wont be back---and I will be sure to advise any human, whether just curious or vegan, to avoid this joint at all costs. more

Worst Service, Apathetic Staff 2/2/2009

I hesitate giving Watercourse even one star because that would mean I was remotely satisfied - which I wasn't. I don't have the energy to describe everything that went wrong, but Janis S. summed it up. They are the only Vegetarian shop in town and that gives them the right to not care about customer service. The food wasn't even that good - it was cold, salty and burned (I know, how can you have burned food and still come out cold?).\r Unless you have a couple hours to spare, just to be treated like an imposition - I would try something else. Its on my Never List and they ruined my girlfriend's birthday. more

Good food, quirky service 1/22/2009

The food is satisfying, even for meat eaters. It's great as vegetarian to go out to eat and have a selection, as opposed to the pity option offered at other places. The service is slower, but you could always enjoy your company and avoid the obvious rush times for eating out. No, it's not exactly health food but I'm not a vegetarian only for the health benefits. Big favorites of mine are the buffalo wings (can be spicy for some), and gravy dishes. If you like coffee, go for a cup with your meal because it's the best. Pros: Mmmm...tasty Cons: Noisy atmoshere and inconsistant service more

Food is delish, but service is pretty bad 12/27/2008

Food is the best!! Definitely not the healthiest, but vegetarian and really good. Service is very slow though so don't plan on dinner here if you just want a quick bite. I love this place!! Pros: food is super good Cons: service more

A Denver favorite.. 12/9/2008

As a meat eater, I was hesitant to try this all vegetarian restaurant. That was years ago, because now, I eat there at least once a week. The biscuits and gravy and the seitan buffalo wings make my life a better place. more

Owner throws employees onto street to save a buck! 10/12/2008

The owner of Watercourse Foods is planning on abruptly firing 15 staff members after realizing his buisness is 90,000 dollars in debt. Please call Dan Landes or another manager and tell them this is bad buisness. Also please do not patronize such establishments that treat their staff so unfairly!!!! Pros: Greasy Spoon Cons: Food is mostly fried and products come from SHAMROCK FOODS more

Shady business 10/4/2008

I dined with friends on Sept. 4th. We split the bill I put $20 on my credit card, they charged me $35. No big deal, I am sure just a mistake in closing out the check, right??? I call, leave message, no one calls me back, I call leave more angry message, Dan the GM calls me back, says he will re-credit me the $15. I check my account on the 26th, still no credit, call leave 3rd message, no one calls me back and still no credit, contacted my bank and they are investigating for me. I find it truly absurd that no one calls me back and that it has been a month and now they have lost a customer over their poor business practices. more

Holy seitan, the food is good! 6/9/2008

I'm a pretty easygoing eater and can usually find a bit of lettuce to nibble on wherever I go, so when I go to Watercourse it's akin to a culinary corset being undone. What a treat to be able to order anything on the menu without worrying if it's got any meat in it. It's freeing and spectacular and I can't even express how much I love this place. The vegan buffalo wings and the Portabello reuben are two of my faves. The tomato curry soup is to die for. I've taken my carnivorous friends and they've loved it. My new favorite place is Watercourse. Pros: The food, the food, the food! Cons: Parking can be tough. more

Best best veggie food in town, NOT a health restaurant 6/4/2008

This place is wonderful! Many confuse it with a health restaurant, but unless you get a salad it is really just greasy vegan comfort food. YUM! The service and atmosphere is glorious. I have read a lot of nasty reviews about Watercourse since they moved to their new location, and I would say that is because they are being written by nasty people. Quality food should take a long time! It is all of you Uptown money mongers that give this place a bad name! Watercourse is the center of the veggie community in Denver, and should be treated as such! This is the place where you can relax, meet some like-minded folks and enjoy a wonderful, slow meal! Long Live the Denver veggie food monopoly known as Watercourse foods!\r Vegan coconut cream pie is to die for! Pros: People, philosophy, vegan buffalo wings! Cons: food comes from Sysco and Shamrock more

My favorite 2/24/2008

Watercourse being one of the best overall restaurants in Denver, and the best vegetarian friendly restaurant that I know, you have to expect it to be very busy, which it usually is. So it's good that they moved to a larger building that can accommodate more customers at once, although I did prefer the ambiance at the old place. My party of three arrived early last Sunday evening for dinner, and we didn't have to wait for a table at all. Our server was attentive and we ordered drinks, appetizers, dinner and dessert. They got everything right, everything delicious, and everything was served promptly. I think now that the new location has been open a while they've worked out a lot of the kinks. I've been a vegetarian for 12 years and have eaten veggie food in California, Seattle, New York City, and London, and I feel lucky to live near Watercourse, the best veggie restaurant overall that I've been to. Their menu is exhaustive, with every vegetarian protein source you can think of (tofu, tempeh, seitan, legumes, etc), so many ethnic foods represented (including American, Thai, Mexican, Mediterranean,...), and creatively combined and seasoned foods. I always try something different and I'm always delighted. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. And all that at affordable prices. Go there and enjoy! Pros: The food, the selection, the affordability Cons: parking, occasional wait times more
