I love my new head of hair! Melissa Polley performed a miracle. I walked-in with sun bleached hair, 2"" grow-out and no particular hairstyle. When I left I had a new head of hair! It's beautiful! Since having my hair cut by this wonderful lady, I have not been to another stylist and would recommend her to anybody. Janelle is very attentive to the wants and needs of her customers and has always delivered a positive result with whatever style or cut I have asked from her. Go to Janelle Winter to get your hair done. She is amazing. I have been going to her for years, and she always does an spectacular job. She gives you amazing head massages when she shampoos, she is extremely personable when you chat with her, she can do any kind of cut, she's able to create just what you're wanting, and you'll always walk out of there feeling like a super-model. It's such a self-esteem boost. I get so many compliments when I go to work the next day. Go see her! She's awesome! more

I have been around the block. In the salon world of course! I am one of the MOST picky, critical people regarding my hair. If I don't love the result of my visit to a salon, I refuse to return. After 4 years of searching, and many break ups with hair stylists, I found Veronica Greene! Ive been a loyal client since the day she took me as a ""walk in"" at a previous salon. Veronica has successfully changed my hair color MANY times, and it always looks perfect the first time.She keeps my hair in great condition, as I use the recommended products and I LOVE them! She recently started cutting my son's hair and I think its great that she listens to what he wants and never fails to get it just right! more

For too many years now I've considered my hair to be a frustrating less-than-perfect maze of dead-ends at every corner, rather than a source of inspiration, or outlet for expression, which I know deep down it deserves to be. I instinctively knew I should shave it all off and start over. Janelle buzzed it to the scalp for me, and it was sincerely the smartest haircut I've ever had. Anyone could have done it, but not anyone would have had as much fun doing it or given such a sensational head massage while shampooing me as Janelle did. I found Ward within 5 months of moving to Portland, and I knew my search for a stylist had finally ended. I called him desperate for help with yet another bad haircut and he got me in the following day. My hair is thick and wavy, and comes to just below my ears - Ward immediately recognized that all that was needed was to remove the weight from the bottom and taper it more towards my neck. He charged me half of his very reasonable fee, which speaks volumes of his integrity. I have since been in for another haircut and, as everyone else has said, it is truly one of the best haircuts I have ever had - so easy to care for, and I look like myself again. Ward is a generous and caring man who genuinely listens and involves you in every step of the process. My search for a hairdresser is finally over! more

I went to Ward for a hair cut and color after reading all the positive reviews online. Ward is friendly, sincere, and cares about what he does and it shows in his work. He had a lot of great ideas but most importantly listened to what I wanted. I walked out with the greatest looking hair I've had in years. I was initially leery about having a ""dry cut"", but it really was amazing to see my hair take shape in front of my eyes and the end result was fantastic. He listens, takes the time to understand what you want your hair to look like and feel like, then starts once you and he are in complete agreement of what to do. Ward is intuitive and creative and somehow you come out with the hair you knew you wanted but didn't know how to explain. \r Great vibe in the salon, friendly and humorous, and well worth every penny. I needed a great cut so bad. Ward listened to me and asked for my input as he truly sculpted my hair into the haircut that I have always wanted but was never able to achieve with other hairdressers.\r I ran home to wash my hair like I always do, (can't stand the prickles from the little hairs on my neck) after I washed my hair it just all fell into place by itself. This man takes his arts--all of them--seriously. I just had my 3rd appointment with Ward. The first time I went to him, while he was working at The Blue Chair, was the first time in Portland I have been totally happy with the cut I was given. He listened. He knew how to cut naturally curly hair, which, it seems, throws most hairdressers. I have gotten cuts that looked lifeless and sometimes just plain strange from hairdressers whose own hair was straight or those who were recommended by friends with stick-straight hair. It took me a while to figure out you have to search for someone who's able to work for you and not some higher concept of their own. Ward is the first I've found. And I am 54 years-old. The triple-scissors cut I just got is amazing. left the very nice salon (my first time at Dezi--they were nice enough at The Blue Chair to tell me where Ward had gone) high on it. Ward gave me EXACTLY the cut that I envisioned. It was like coming home. He has a gift...more than one, even. If you haven't heard his CD ""You Gotta Dance with the Ones that Brung Ya"" I would further suggest you look into the music he makes...that boy's got some serious blues chops...I bought one of his CD's and have it on my iPod. I thank you Ward! You are my hair guy. I've got to rebut the person whose experience with color in Ward's hands was less than satisfactory...this was not my experience AT ALL. Ward saved me from a bad color job (a home job) by toning it way down and conditioning the bejeezus out of it. The color has stayed true and my hair looked better than it had in a long time. Just last month, I was in a panic-- my Dad had just died and I needed a cut in a hurry. I walked in and Ward took me in, consoled me and gave me another, characteristically great cut for the memorial service. He did it during his scheduled break, and for that, I am truly thankful. I was given Ward's name by a dear friend. I live between two cities and travel a great deal with my job. I was in need of color and a trim. My friend called Ward and within a half hour he called her back and had me scheduled to my availability.... How often do you see this???\r I loved the color that he did and more so his honesty in what to do and NOT do with a cut. I really love getting my hair cut by Ward. I even loved getting my hair colored by him... at first. The color was his suggestion, and while is does look great and also makes me look a lot younger like he promised, my hair is now so damaged I am afraid to get anything done to it now. I asked Ward about just touching up my roots the last couple of times I was in, but he insisted that that was NOT an option. He informed me that I would need all of my hair done all over again. I have so much damage to my hair now I don't know what to do. Split ends, drying, frizzy, break off, you name it - I've got it. I have recently started to ask around at other salons and I get the same response everywhere; no one can understand why Ward won't just touch up the roots. I've also been told by these other stylists that I could end up having to get my hair cut short just to salvage what I have left. It's sad really. I love my hair cut. But for the huge price tag of the damage from over coloring, not to mention the massive damage inflicted to my pocketbook, I am probably not going back. Not only does this man know how to color but he can also cut AND style. You donot have to go home and restyle your hair. He can do it all and do what you ask. My hair has been colored for years and I left there with it soooo soft and it still is. He also has awesome hair products that not only smell good but are good for the planet.
