V-Ron! Where have you been all my life? 11/14/2011

I hesitate to write this review only because Veronica is my secret weapon... I can get in to see her without having to make an appointment weeks in advance, her prices are incredibly reasonable, and her cut and color skills are MAD! Ever had that experience of having to go home and quickly re-style your hair after leaving the salon before anyone sees you? Well, everytime I leave Veronica's chair, I want to go straight out to a bar, drink whiskey and flirt with cute boys...regardless of how frumped up I felt when I came in. If that weren't enough (and really it should be), I also get non-stop compliments from other women on both my cut and color, which pleases my vapid little ego to no end. ;) Veronica is seriously one of the best stylists in town. more

Ward is an incredible hair stylist! I've been seeing him for almost two years and have always gotten perfect hair cuts and coloring from him. You won't find a more talented and genuinely nice hair stylist ANYWHERE! Ward is the real deal check him out! more

Janelle Winter : Portlands Best Hair Artist 10/29/2011

I cannot express in words the talent this girl possesses, she is beyond any words that my meager vocabulary can express. I am an African American female that has been trying to grow my hair out naturally for years...but I have not been able to find a stylist that knows how to work with my hair type until i came across Janelle. I swear to God she is THE BEST! She does this amazing smoothing treatment on my hair that makes it feel like silk, the color she puts in always makes my hair have the most beautiful shine and depth to it. And recently she gave me extensions that are TO DIE FOR! Finding a stylist that is so dedicated, excited, honest, and thorough is rare, and for the first time in a long time I am embracing my naturally curly hair. Janelle is truly an artist. more

Ward cut my hair a month ago. But it isn't just a cut - it is a work of art! I work at a job where I am around a lot of people. I have had at least 4 people a day tell me how fabulous I look and how much they like my hair. People actually do a double take, light up, and throw out the compliments. Thanks Ward. I will be back. I look fabulous! I look at others who have similar cuts but theirs doesn't have the attitude that mine has. I am 57 with graying hair but I love the new me! more

Simple haircut done exceptionally well. 8/26/2011

Go to Ward Stroud ""Artisans of Hair"" and ask for Janelle. You will receive the best color and cut of your life. I swear, this lady was Athena's hair stylist, and the only reason she turned Medusa into a gorgon was because Athena was jealous that Janelle also styled her hair. Also, this lady managed to take my horribly tattered mane from a processed red to a white. Like, snow white hair, in the cutest pixie cut I've ever seen. She did all this, and managed to make my hair feel like....well.... healthy hair again. This woman is a goddess of hair. Just sayin'. more

Janelle W. at Ward Stroud is amazing! Yet another reason to live in NW Portland is the Ward Stroud Artisans of Hair Salon on NW 21st Av, Portland. Through the years my girlfriends and I have had many conversations about how hard it is to find a Stylist/Colorist who is good at cutting hair AND coloring hair. Well - look no further. Janelle is very talented at both. Right now I'm in a style grow out phase and my hair still looks great (cut and color)! Janelle always has ideas and suggestions for me. She's also very friendly and fun. more

Veronica is the best! 4/26/2011

I originally found Veronica before she was at Ward Stroud and she was so great I made an effort to make sure I knew where she went. She's great at listening to what you want and also giving great recommendations. I'm not so crazy when it comes to hairstyles but she's definitely helped me get outside of my comfort zone. I had my hair really long for awhile and then I decided to cut is shorter than I usually do. Veronica did a great job! Can't wait to go see her again and see how my hair turns out! I bet it will be amazing! more

Hair Stylist Par Excellence! 4/4/2011

You know how some of the best food can be found in the most unassuming places? Well, the same is true of other services, like getting your hair styled. Ward Stroud is one of those places that offers quality service in a comfortable atmosphere. Janelle knew exactly what I wanted after a few minutes of conversation--and she executed the cut perfectly! Its been about 6 years since I've had a stylist that can understand my needs. Melissa was intuitive, professional and creative! Gave me a cut, color and style to die for! Affordable prices and a super fun atmosphere. Feels more like chillin with friends then a day at the salon I'm so relieved that I have finally found my stylist! Veronica is Awesome! 4/2/2011

I moved to the Portland area last year and immediately got engaged and planned a fast wedding. I needed to find a great stylist for my hair and was lucky enough to find Veronica. She did an amazing job - just what I had asked for. A very natural look with blond highlights. I was very happy and received many nice compliments including one for the girl who did my updo for the wedding. Since then, I have seen Veronica several times. She helped me to come up with new cuts and style techniques as well as gave me confidence to try new styles. At my last visit I decided to make a dramatic change and go for red and black punk rock look. It was a process to make the change but Verionica made it enjoyable and the end result was well worth it. I have receive more compliments on this style than ever and am very happy with the outcome. I will continue to visit Veronica for several resons. She listens to what you want and makes great suggestions, the environment at Ward Stroud is comfortable and plesant, and Veronica charges very resonable rates for her services.\r \r more

Janelle is the Best 3/4/2011

Janelle Winter is the only person to trust with your hair, epically if you have no idea how to give your stylist direction. I know nothing about fashion; Janelle knows this, so I just sit down in her chair and let her cut. When she is done, I walk out of her door looking great. Whether you know exactly what you want or have no clue, Janelle will do a great job and provide friendly service. Go to her once and you will never trust another with your hair. more

Amazing Salon 3/2/2011

Ward's is amazing. The staff is so friendly and make you feel like you are part of the family. My daughter goes there every Saturday to get a new feather or bling in her hair, and is always treated like a star. Not only are they wonderful people, but they are fabulous artists as well. I have never had a bad cut from Ward's, and I recommend them to everybody who asks where to get there hair done. more

I highly recommend Veronica Greene - she is an excellent stylist and gave me exactly the haircut I was looking for. Very friendly and wonderful service. She is an artist and really knows what she's doing. I drove 70 miles and it was worth every mile. I'll be back for sure. more

janelle rocks! 2/3/2011

After a bad haircut many years ago, I have avoided hairdressers completely and cut my own hair. Sometimes it was ok, sometimes it was bad. I was growing my hair out and knew I needed some help going from weird bowl cut to cute bob. I went to Janelle on a friend's recommendation and have been so happy with my hair! Most of all she really listens to what I want, it's scary getting your hair cut when you are trying to grow it out because a little cut can make a big difference. And if it isn't exactly what I wanted, I'll walk in and she will tweak it or trim my bangs for free! Janelle cured me of my haircut phobia and now I have hair I actually like again. Ward Stroud is a nice relaxed salon atmosphere too, everyone is friendly and seems happy to be there. five stars! more

I found Melissa at Ward Stroud by chance looking for hair feathers for my daughters and ended up not only getting beautiful hair feathers but amazing free hair advice. She took time to talk technique and recomend products with out pushing me to purchase anything. In fact she told me to try her tips before deciding to cut my hair. This sealed it & I decided I'd go to her & give her a try for my cut. I was thrilled with the results. I got an amazing hair cut (I've recieved so many compliments). My daughters were very impressed and (are very picky, as well as loyal to their old hair stylest) decided they wanted to have Melissa cut their hair as well. Stunning and flattering cuts were the results. They too have recieved many compliments. Also her prices are competitive, which I deeply appreciate. We will be returning many many times. We highly recommend her for any one wanting a change, or looking for someone new. more

Best hair experience, ever. 1/18/2011

Ward has been doing my hair, both cut and color, for about three months now, and I plan on knowing him for a very very long time! I am always pleased, even surprised, with the results of my highlights and his handiwork with the triple shears is marvelous. Most importantly, he listens to what I want and knows exactly how to make it happen. He is down-to-earth, fun-loving, and genuine, which makes the salon experience a true pleasure. Ward is a true artist, true soul, and though I see him only once a month, or so, I would call him a friend...a beautiful rapport he just seems to carry around. Thanks Ward! You make me feel and look like a million bucks! more
