Worst ever Thanksgiving meal- would have been better doing it myself or going to HEB for same at half the cost 1/26/2009

I was excited at the thought of not having to cook for thanksgiving. so I ordered their dinner package for $129. for a family of eight. When I got it home they had already closed for the holiday. Was I ever surprised. the Rolls were average at best. The sweet potatoes were just chunks and small marshmellows were tossed into the container. I could have done that myself in five minutes. No goumet dish this. On to the green beans. They were basically cut up with mushroon soup on top. this too was a no brainer for any cook. the stuffing was out of a package and decidedly average with no special taste. Now for the horror of the turkey. My family members just gagged when we took off the foil and saw that the turkey was totally covered in miracle whip. Staring at a white turkey in a mayonaisse/miracle whip cover was shocking. It tasted awful. I had to completely wash the partially cooked turkey and dry it and then cook it. The skin never did brown due to the saturated mayo which had covered it. AT this point it was too late to do anything about it. I was thoroughly disappointed in the meal which was way below average and hardly resembled any gourmet meal I have ever had. I could have ordered the same size dinner from Target or HEB for half the cost. By the way no pie was included in the cost of this meal. Other items included plain mashed potatoes, an odd jelly lke cranberrie sauce without whole berries. It was the biggest rip off I have encountered in a long time. If I ever need to do a meal like this again I will go to Target or HEB. Cons: terrible disappointment all around more

Great selection, but mediocre quality 8/11/2006

We found the Village Gourmet Market while doing a search for ""Angus burgers in San Antonio."" Upon arrival, we were disappointed that two teenagers appeared to be running the place; no adults were in sight anywhere. Sure enough, a dizzying variety of Angus burgers were advertised on menu boards within the ""grill and bakery."" We were shocked, though, when the ""burgers"" arrived. The meat was not hamburger at all, let alone Angus hamburger. It was a spam-like concoction full of filler (perhaps soy protein), reminiscent of poor-quality meatloaf. We felt very cheated. Pros: Large-variety menu Cons: The food served was not as advertised. more
