Editorial review from GrubHub 3/1/2014

This is the absolute WORST place I've ever ordered from. OVER 2 hours to get spinach and turkey bacon and then it comes ice cold. The delivery guy is looking at me dumfounded as I'm complaining. Get a clue guys!!! If you're going to be late at least contact the customer. NEVER again and I would beg anyone to not try this place. more

One of the best Breakfasts Ever 6/7/2009

My boyfriend and I are on a mission to find the best eggs in Los Angeles. Of all the places we've been so far, Vienna Cafe is winning, hands down. They have a large, sophisticated selection and if your veg/vegan, the VeggieX is one of the best veggie omelets i've ever eaten. The staff is consistently extremely friendly and helpful. Probably my favorite aspect of the Vienna Cafe experience is the fact that they give you a free loaf of delicious, gourmet bread with your check. Vienna Cafe is well worth the moderate price. Pros: Great Service, Free Bread, Amazing Food Cons: Crowds more

Great place for Breakfast or Lunch 5/18/2009

Vienna Cafe on Melrose is a great place for lunch. It is conveniently located near all the best stores so you can just walk there after shopping. Ever since I found this place, its the only place I go for lunch on Melrose. They are above average in all the elements that a restaurant needs to have. Food, Service, Ambience, and Prices. more

Do NOT miss this place! 5/5/2009

This place IS the HOLLYWOOD DINING EXPERIENCE! Great food, great service, incredible atmosphere and really desent prices! I've never been there (and I've been many times) when the owner wasn't there. I live in Florida and get out to LA 3 or 4 times a year and no matter my business in CA, I wouldn't even consider not eating a couple of my meals at Vienna! Pros: Best food and fastest, friendliest service around Cons: They don't have one in Florida where I live! more

Best breakfast on Melrose! 4/20/2009

My favorite spot in Hollywood for breakfast. The lobster eggs benedict is amazing and reasonably priced. Pros: Atmospehere and food more

Best bread dip (the bread was good too). 11/29/2008

Driving down Melrose, my wife and I were looking for a place that looked out onto the street scene and wouldn't break the bank. The orange walls, black awnings and busy tables of the Vienna Cafe caught my attention. The cafe didn't disappoint-from the attentive waiter to the good food. The fresh baked bread was very good, but the olive oil/parmesan/raisin/tomato dip was awesome. My mango/passionfruit smoothie was good, as was the coffee. My wife's tuna sandwich was very good coming with alfalfa sprouts, but my beef stroganoff sandwich was only alright. My issue with my sandwich was that it was a wet sandwich, meaning that if I tried to pick it up and eat it, it'd be a mess. I had to use a fork and knife. I was looking forward to a sandwich I could pick up and bite into. It was good, just not what I was expecting. To finish off the meal, every diner receives a free cupcake - a great personal touch. I felt the $27 bill (pre tip) was a very good price for what we received. Pros: Food, View of the street more

Melrose breakfast and lunch at it's best. 5/6/2008

This place has the best in several categories that really count: the owner is present and involved and knows what he's doing, the food is outstanding, and the value is where it should be. The Vienna has grown over the years, mostly supported by the Melrose phenomenon, but has consistently had great coffee, breakfast, and lunch. i am always willing to wait for a seat to eat there. The bread alone is a religious experience. Fresh made right there at the bakery, and served with olive oil and fresh parmesan, wow. Breakfast is always fulfilling, fruit is seasonal and fresh, coffee always refilled. The staff is capable, although used to be more um, female... Count on the owner stopping by to make sure everything is ok. And he's really sincere about that. Parking can be a problem, so pay attention to signs and meters. Pros: best bread & breakfast, coffee and lunch Cons: parking sometimes more

good everything 4/17/2008

the owner is friendly & generous, the neighborhood serves as a great backdrop for an eclectic place such as this, and the food is just great. from salads to omelettes to desserts, this place has good everything (except for parking, b/c it's in 'bohemian' melrose). i recommend sitting outside to people-watch. Pros: friendly people/great food Cons: no parking more

Cozy breakfast spot 3/4/2008

Always love a place with a European flair and this place mixes that with L.A. casual in a perfect way. Love the pretzel rolls, too. Service is maybe a bit too casual at times, but always friendly. The food is always good and enjoy the unique dishes. Only complaint is the huge cups of coffee get cold quickly and the servers are very slow with refills. Love the open air, relaxed atmosphere here and go back quite often. Pros: Outdoor patio. Relaxed comfortable atmosphere. Cons: Sometimes slow service, but nothing major. more

Great breakfast and lunch 12/3/2007

I've been to Vienna Cafe quite a few times for both breakfast and lunch. The food is great and the service is wonderful. The staff takes the time to get to know me so even when I'm dining alone I'm amongst friends. Pros: Great food at a fair price Cons: Melrose crowd and some traffic more

A wonderful surprise! 11/4/2007

Wow! I've been twice in the last couple of months, and both experiences were wonderful! Our service was great, the food was outstanding, and they even surprised us with a HUGE loaf of bread to take home. I am planning to take a group of friends there next week. We also loved the little red velvet cupcakes that come free, like bread, with the meal. Pros: Great and creative breakfast dishes. Wonderfully different bread basket! Can sit outside Cons: A little small. more

This place continues to go downhill... 10/30/2007

This used to be a great spot for late breakfast on the weekend, but the past couple times I have gone, regardless of how many tables are filled, the service is abominable. I went with my boyfriend a couple weeks ago, and though we were seated promptly, we waited fifteen minutes before a waiter came by to take our drink order. Another ten minutes later we got our coffee, and the manager (or at least a guy who seems to think he owns the place) brought us a couple cupcakes. Ummm, thanks, but I'd rather have decent service and a meal I actually ordered. The same guy was lavishing attention on the couple seated next to us because they brought their puppy. After eating our food (finally), we were halfway out the door when the manager-guy gave us a free loaf of bread. Hey, I'm all for freebies, but after a sub-par breakfast at a cafe that pays more attention to cute cupcakes and cute puppies than their paying (human) customers, I can say for certain that I won't be going back. Pros: nice, cafe-style tables and sidewalk seating Cons: terrible service more

Bad food, terrible service! 8/26/2007

I had the lobster benedict which arrived cold and the eggs were overdone. The red velvet cupcakes mentioned in another review were bland and had no frosting, because they'd run out! And the service became a joke: the waiter asked, ""Can I get you anything else?"" as though we were finished, but we hadn't yet received our food. Other times, someone would come by the table and say, ""Did you order the cookies?"" which we hadn't, or another waiter would try to give us someone else's entrees. It got so bad that we kept telling ourselves, ""at least we used the coupon from citysearch!"" Pros: Large menu, low prices Cons: Terrible service and bad food more

Lobster Quesadillas and Red Velvet Cupcakes 7/7/2007

The lobster quesadilla, eggless, is one of the best things I've ever tasted, the owner is one of the nicest and most generous guys in LA, and the succulent red velvet cupcakes beats out any cupcake compeition. You gotta try this place. Pros: Parking is ample on sidestreets if it can't be found on Melrose, Staff is eager to please. Cons: Some people in LA like to show off their loud cars on Melrose. more

Best Cafe for miles in every direction 5/30/2007

Tasty... reasonable prices... breakfast all day... delicious fresh salads and sandwiches... relaxed comfortable atmosphere... a front row seat to Melrose people watching... This is my all around favorite breakfast/brunch/lunch cafe in L.A. ... better than the Blu Jam, the Griddle, Doughboys, Lulu's... although they're all good, too, for a change of place... it's just I keep going back to the Vienna Cafe and they're always the best! more

brunch spot 11/16/2006
