Travel to Japan in Seattle 10/23/2005

This store has always been a fun place to shop. The grocery section is organized with a certain precision that makes you feel organized even if you are not. Uwajimaya also has a cookware section, sells stationary, books, and magazines, and is ringed by several restaurants representing different Asian cuisines. The grocery section is somewhat expensive, but does have a very wide selection of Japanese foodstuffs. more

Very nice selection of Asian goods & foods 10/8/2005

Uwajimaya is located in Seattle's International District. This is a wonderful place for anyone who has any interest in Asian foods, gifts, and supplies for daily living to go. The main part of the store is reserved for grocery items, and they devote half an aisle just to soy sauce, the other half to rice and noodles, etc. Many of the items are shipped straight from Asia, and have no English "words" to indicate what the food is, what its use is, or even what the ingredients are. I find that to be half the fun, and buying items that are completely foreign not just in use but in flavour and texture is always an interesting experience. The fresh fruit and veggie section is very large and has many exotic ingredients that cannot be found in mainstream grocery stores. The meat and seafood section is large and expansive as well. Even if you do not need groceries, I would seriously advise one to go to Uwajimaya if for nothing more than the experience it provides. more

Your perfect asian grocery market 10/4/2005

I go and shop at Uwajimaya every weekend. I love going to shop at Uwajimaya for my asian grocery because they alway have the most varieties, and one of the freshest qualities of food anywhere around the international district. The service is great and the price of the grocery is not too bad, although it usually is a little bit more expensive than other grocery stores in the international district. Also they have a wonderful food court with many different choices of food, The different restaurant stands in their food court include Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Korean and more. They also have a very good bakery in the food court too, plus a bubble tea stand. If you have the time you should definitely go check it out. more

Excellent Oriental Market 9/19/2005

There are two location with Uwajimaya, the one I am reviewing is the main location in the International District. The other location is in Bellevue. The best thing about this market is the big parking lot in the middle of Chinatown. Second best thing is the wide variety of product they carry. Third is the fresh meat and produce they offer. Actually the list of good things with Uwajimaya goes on and on, so you should definitely make a trip to see this place for yourself. more

Great Shopping Experinece 8/29/2005

The Seattle Uwajimaya is great place for fresh produce and everthing Asian. It is usally bustling with activity which makes the place even more fun to visit. It's not just grocery shopping, it's an experinece. All of the wandering through the gift area and bookstore alone can work up an appetite. Then it's time to stop in the food court and order a bubble tea and some Thai food or a bowl of pho soup. Yum!! When you gain enough strength, go back and get your grocery shopping done. Just remember to bring in your parking stub to get validation for free parking while your are shopping. more

A little more expensive but worth the convenience 8/24/2005

This place is a little more expensive then other stores in Chinatown but it is worth the convenience. Instead of having to go from store to store and having to find parking along the way you can just park in the garage at Uwajimaya and do all your Asian grocery shopping in one place. The store itself is very nice. However, it does get pretty busy during the weekends more

You want Chinese? Japanese? Korean? You got it 8/21/2005

Uwajimaya is the best store in the Universe. It is an Asian grocery and gift store and has EVERY SINGLE FOOD ITEM you never knew existed. Even after you see the food you have no idea what it is because many of the products are not labeled in English. That's what makes Uwajimaya fun, though. Buy a box of cookies with a picture of a flower on the outside. Find out that they taste like shrimp, instead of a flower. Buy interesting drinks made out of basil seed and strange nuts you've never heard of. Go into the produce department and get cheap basil to make pesto with! Buy some Lechee fruit and spend 30 minutes figuring out how to eat them. Go into the fish and meat department and be amazed at the tons of crabs, clams, and other assorted sea life that are in the ice-filled bins. Uwajimaya is the best store in the world. I mean, what other store has an entire asile devoted to SOY SAUCE? Now that we don't live in Seattle anymore, when my husband and I do make it on that side of the mountains, we always stock up on goodies at Uwajimaya. Oh--and even better--the prices are SO CHEAP! Once you go to Uwajimaya, you'll NEVER settle for the paltry "ethnic aisle" at the grocery store again. Such great foods and they're SO inexpensive!!! more

Big store in little China (sorry) 8/21/2005

With a huge selection of groceries and general goods, Uwajimaya is a powerhouse of the International District. Part of a chain of three Northwest stores, the Seattle location offers gifts and specialty items from the east, as well as a mind-blowing array of fresh foods, dried goods and packaged items. They also have baked goods. I especially love the Ensaymadas from Goldilocks, a baking company and chain of Filipino restaurants in California. Mmmm . . . coconut. more

Great grocery store, but don't miss the food court! 8/20/2005

The new Uwajimaya is a great place to spend a few hours. The aisles of the grocery store contain interesting tasty treats from around the Pacific Rim, but the highlight for me is the food court. This is probably some of the best and cheapest Asian food in the city. The Chinese items are outstanding, and portions are extremely generous. You can't go wrong with anything on offer. The other outlets offer a range of choices so that everyone will find something that appeals to them. This is a great place to grab a quick and satisfying meal. more

Fine Asian grocery and gift superstore 8/20/2005

Uwajimaya is a high-end Asian superstore with everything you could imagine. Here, you can find that obscure ingredient you are searching for or a unique wedding gift in the housewares section. You can spend a lot of time just browsing the grocery section and finding new things to try. Staff can be hard to locate (except at the checkstands which move quickly), so know what you are looking for or be adventurous and just try it. Prices aren’t cheap. more

great place 8/18/2005

If you like Asian grocer, you'll have to check out Uwajimaya. Although the main theme is Japanese, they do have decent Chinese and Korean selection too. Inside of the store is clean and bright. It does look better than a lot of other Chinese grocery stores. The seafood department is especially good. You can always find different kinds of live seafood and packaged sashimi. There is even a food court inside of the store. The only complaint I have is that it's really really cold inside the store. So bring a jacket. more

asian groceries at its best 8/18/2005

Uwajimaya is one of my favorite places to go in the international district area. They have a wide range of asian groceries - mainly focusing on Japanese groceries. I love getting different Japanese candy - my favorite are the Meiji chocolate covered gummies - yum yum!. They also have a sanrio section for the kids, various household goods, cards, and a bookstore. They also have a food court if you are hungry. I recommend the honey moon bubble tea. Their sashimi is very fresh, so no need to worry about getting sick on the fish. When you are down in the international district visit the kung fu shop and Uwajimaya. more

Variety, International Flavor 6/28/2005

Uwajimaya has plenty to offer, not dining sheik necessarily, but fast and not too expensive, and within walking distance of Safeco and Qwest. There are also plenty of hole-in-the-wall places to try there, but you'll be safe at the U's eatery stands. Happy eating and baseballing!! more
