An off day perhaps? 5/4/2010

I have been to many Thai restaurants, in fact I run a dining group and we eat at restaurants all over town. I was very disappointed in the food. Granted I only had two dishes - the Thai Salad and the Pad Ke Mao but neither even met average in my opinion. The Thai salad was not exciting. It was a small amount of romaine lettuce chopped up for the most part with thick chunky peanut sauce squirted in a few strips across it and instead of a liquid like dressing that could sink into the salad this blob just sort of sat on the top. There was about one slice of tomato, one slice of cucumber and 4 mung bean sprouts to complete the salad and a hard boiled egg sliced on the side (the egg looked nice). A hand full of chopped up romaine with a blob of peanut sauce is not a very inspired Thai salad - in fact it was the worst Thai salad I have ever had. (I asked for more mung bean sprouts - the waiter did bring me more but seemed surprised that I thought it needed more.) The Pad Ke Mao is normally a rich dish with the sweet fat rice noodles and the nice pieces of chicken. While their version had both the chicken and the noodles - the whole dish had turned dark brown due to what I believe was and over abundance of soy sauce. The subtle flavors of other spices and the chicken were completely lost and it was not very spicy. (I had asked for spicy). While it was palatable it was both uninspiring flavor-wise and not appealing visually. Neither the Pad Ke Mao or the Thai Salad were served with lime either in the dressing or on the side. I have always had lime served to me with my Thai food - not sure if that is authentic or an American twist but it was noticeably missing and would have helped the flavors of both dishes. I read the other reviews and maybe the other dishes are great. Maybe it was just a different cook ( I was there on a Sunday if that matters). Maybe it was just an off day. The other diners did seem happy, the setting was pleasant with nice decor, and the was the staff were friendly and offered good service. I don't want to discourage anyone from patronizing this business, rather I would hope that this business would take note from this review and revise and improve these two dishes or if it is an off day for them strive for more consistency. Pros: Nice staff, nice decor, easy access and parking Cons: Not spectacular Thai cooking more

Tasty Thai at good prices 6/14/2006

We have been going to Bai Tong for years and it is about time I wrote a review. We are always happy with what we order and the bill makes up happier. Their drunken noodles are great and their Panang Curry is delicious! If I had their menu in front of me I would recommend a few other dishes. Parking is always easy and there is a great wine shop next door (E&R Wines). Pros: Parking, Price, Tastiness more

Above average 6/20/2003

Nice eclectic menu, very good fried rice, and reasonable prices. Unless you like an eggplant overload, I'd pass on the Catfish Delight. The young server was bustling around like he had a room full of people, there were three tables and not once did he check on our order. However, other times we received great service, so maybe it's hit and miss. The mango and sticky rice is a must try, but why $4? Venture away from the standards, and go for the special house creations. Pros: fried rice Cons: spotty service, Catfish delight more
