Good and Authentic- 2/9/2011

I love my tex-mex-and Rosie's has never disappointed. I've been a regular and while there are many other Mexican restaurants now out in the area, Rosie's is my place if I'm hungry and want familiar food. It may not be fancy and the waitstaff may need prompting, but I always am satisfied and happy when I walk out of this restaurant. I guess I see myself as part of the experience and I don't expect my waiter to read my mind if I need something-don't knock the service and the restaurant in a review you wrote anonymously on a computer-not cool more

Great Local Stop 3/23/2010

Even though the service may need help at times this is the best place to eat in Lake Travis!! Not only Great tex-mex food for over 30 years but good burgers and chicken fried steak. Everyone who grew up here can't stay away when they are in town and I think all the bad reviews are from people who didn't grow up having this awsome place to call home when they are in town. Every restaurant has something to improve it's very rare to find the best of both worlds and if you ask me the only time you get great service is when you serve yourself. Pros: Best Food In Lake Travis Cons: Service can be improved at times more

Love Rosie's 10/22/2009

I think Rosie's has great Mexican food. Best Crispy Beef Taco's in town! I love their salsa and love Tuesday night Fajita Night. It's a very small simple casual whole in the wall but it is a great alternative to some of the over commercialized Mexican joints in the area. more

Lousy Food 4/6/2009

Food is not very good but if you want an autograph from Darrell Royal then go to Rosie's on the first Thursday of the month between 12 and 1. There is a meeting held every Thursday at Rosie's by Darrell Royal. Pros: Nothing Cons: Place needs to be updated more

The best breakfast tacos, horrible service 3/28/2009

We've been to Rosie's about 7 times now, living so near. The first time we went was for dinner. The service was actually alright and the food, while alright, wasn't extraordinary (we had the fajitas). The next time we came in, we ordered breakfast tacos to go. The last 3 times we came by were just consecutive horrible service experiences. The first of the three - we had to wait forever to get some salsa and our drinks refilled. The second, our food took a very long time to arrive and we were never served our chips and salsa until we asked for it from our waiter for the third or fourth time. They also forgot to serve my friend's coffee, which was more or less like dishwater anyway, when it finally arrived. They never asked if there was anything else we needed before just leaving our check at the table. The last time we were there, we simply decided to place an order by phone, hoping we'll never have to deal with the bad service again. Unfortunately, we had to re-order when we got there as they apparently had never processed or written down the order somehow. If you're a stickler for good salsa (as one previous review stated, it really is just pureed tomatoes, but I'd like to add it's got some chilis in it, other than that, it's flavorless) and service, you may want to think twice about this place. On the other hand, some of the best breakfast tacos are served in this establishment (we always order the suicides, believe me, it's good!), and the other food is not bad. It's a family owned establishment and while some of the folks are friendly, they really need to improve their customer service. I'd rate them 2.5 stars if I could, because to me, service comprises half the restaurant experience. It really is too bad and I hope they can improve soon. Pros: Some of the best breakfast tacos (and pralines) in town Cons: HORRIBLE service, salsa needs improvement more

Worst meal in awhile 2/15/2009

If I could , I would give no stars. We drove by early in the afternoon and saw a full parking lot. In the evening, we saw the lot still full and decided to stop. There were 3 people in our party. The place was packed. The Chips were ok ,but lacked any salt. The salsa appeared to be pureed tomatoes with nothing else..no taste at all.The guacamole tasted only of avocados, basic. I ordered the tamale plate. The chili covering the tamales was tasteless. None of the food had any spice or heat. The tamales best quality was that there was some resistance to being cut with my fork. At least, they weren't soggy. Of all the food, only the tacos had a bit of flavor. Pros: nothing more

YUMMY! Breakfast Burritos 10/16/2008

Our office loves breakfast burritos and the ones at Rosie's are the best! I know the other's posted no credit cards, but Rosie's must have updated because I was able to use American Express. Good food, good service, quick, and great price. I drove past this place for so long because it doesn't look like much, but now I understand why the parking lot is always packed. Pros: Best Breakfast Burritos! Cons: Not the most attractive. more

unbelievable TEXICAN! 8/29/2008

Best TexMex....wow...I crave this place every time I have to leave Austin...Felicidades on a continued tradition of excellence. Pros: fresh food, good family owned experience with great service Cons: no beer...bummer. more

Best gooey Tex-Mex in Central Texas. 9/3/2007

Best hot sauce and guacamole around. The gooey, cheesy enchiladas are cholesterol-city, but addictive and delicious. The chili con queso is very mild, very kid-friendly. My 7-year old daughter can eat a whole bowl by herself! The tamales are my 8-year old son's and husband's fave -- they split a half order, and the tamales just disappear. There's something here for the whole family. The service is quick, too. This place isn't just for kids -- my entire office loves Rosie's. Pros: Excellent Tex-Mex food Cons: Not much atmosphere, no credit cards accepted more

Favorite Mexican restaurant 6/19/2006

Excellent food, great atmosphere, afforable prices, and prompt service, what's not to love about Rosie's. Willie's plate is ok as some suggest but my favorites are the chiles rellenos and the fajitas (on Tue & Sat). more

Don't be fooled 5/14/2006

Even though Rosie's Tamale House on Hwy 71 looks like a shack on the side of the road, it's worth the stop! The interior is no bigger than a trailer and the menu is written on the wall, but the food is delicious. My boyfriend and I stopped here for dinner before a concert at The Backyard, which is right up the street. We both ordered the Willie Plate and it was really, really, really good. Unpretentious, genuine Mexican food! Pros: unique atmosphere, delicious food Cons: limited seating, cash only more

Favorite 11/10/2005

This place is great. We have been going for years at I have neve had a bad bite. #1 and Willie's plate are awesome. So are the fajitas, but you can only get them on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Freddie (Alfredo) is always our waiter- he's the best. Pros: Food is incredible, relaxed atmosphere, service Cons: bit of a drive, cash only more

Willie's Plate 7/27/2002

Try the Willie's Plate combination...It's out of this world. Unlike many Mexican restuarants, Rosies's is not at all greasy. The tamales are excellent. The Bee Cave location is very simple but charming and fun. Great place to take a large group. Bring your own alcohol. Many groups bring their won blenders and make margaritas at the table. Pros: excellent food, fairly priced, informal and fun atmo Cons: no credit cards more
