Best Thai food in the whole city of Chicago! The service is excellent as well. I come here so much that they know what I want from the second I walk in the door. My favorite apps are the potstickers, and the tempura shrimp. Get the Pad Garlic with chicken or beef or opt for the Pad Thai. That must be why they've been around for over 20 years. They are located right off of the Montrose brown line stop, so very convenient. Lunch specials are great value too. more

OMG, what a place. I love the lunch deals but even better is the sushi. If you have not tried it there, GO! Anytime of the day or night, you can get a great meal that is served to perfection each and every time. And if you want a jolt, get the Thai Iced Coffee, guaranteed to keep you up all day. Before I was introduced to this place, I only knew of 2 Thai restaurants that I considered good. One that is now closed down on Sheridan and the other by the Western brown line stop. So when my aunt brought home an order of my favorite Thai dish from this place I never heard of before, I was skeptical. But one taste did it all for me. This place really is a rare find, especially when it's literally under the Montrose brown line stop. There's not much I can say about this place except that it's good and cheap (in a good way). They can make all your Thai favorites in approximately 1/2 the cost of what you'd usually pay. Plus, do you like your food spicy? No problem. They'll be glad to spice up your order anywhere from mild to EXTRA SPICY! But if there is one dish that I found a new favorite that separated this place from my usual favorite, it has to be their Angel Wings (stuffed chicken wings with a meat & vermicelli noodle blend). I've tried these wings at other Thai places and they just don't compare. Although, you only get 2 which is a small disapointment. I for one am glad to hear that there's not just one good place for cheap Thai cuisine any longer. Always a good meal from Roong Petch. They are typically very fast and the food is always hot and fresh when we get it. Highly recommended. more

When I lived in Ravenswood this was my comfort restaurant. The food is not fancy but everything is delicious. I have never been disappointed in anything I ordered. I love their Tom Kha soup especially, and my husband was addicted to their steamed mussels. A great place to go when you get off the train and want some food to make you happy. The waitstaff was always friendly and attentive, and they really appreciated seeing local repeat customers; we were like family there. I once left a hairclip there and they saved it for me for several months until we came back. We don't live nearby or off the Brown Line anymore, so we miss Roong! The pad thai was ""eh"" and the portion was rather small. The curry was mild to the point of water. It was cheap, but there's cheaper - and better - out there.
