I'm not sure if I'd had a lot of Thai food before I had Penny's. What I do know is that I've had a lot of Thai food since Penny's--and nothing has compared. Nothing. Penny's does everything right. From the affordable menu to the fast, friendly service, it can't be beat. For me, the Pad Se Ew dish is legendary. I have so many fond college memories of snagging a table with friends and co-workers, opening a bottle of wine from across the street, and leaving so full that I might burst. Penny's is small and charming. There are a few locations in Chicago, but this one is my most favorite. Please go, and go again, and go again, and go again. Do it. For me.
Pros: Food, Service
Cons: Only in Chicago

When my parents were visiting, my husband and I wanted to take them to the best restaurants Chicago had to offer, and Arun's did not disappoint. Each appetizer was more tasty than the one before (and the presentation was great -- a cute carrot basket on one plate, an abstract fish on another), and the four entrees were each standouts in their own way (I loved the Massman beef and the lobster). And the two desserts were absolutely delicious! It truly was like being royalty in Thailand. I can't wait to go back!
Pros: fantastic cuisine, attentive staff
Cons: parking, not very romantic

I have consistently found that people either fall completely in love with Penny's or the complete opposite. That's why the reviews are so different. I'm a Penny's lover, but try it for yourself and ignore all these posts. It's certainly worth it for the money, even if it's not your favorite. Sliced Chicken, Gyoza and Pad Se Eu are some of the best. One note of caution - eat here - take out is NOT the same.
Pros: consistent, fresh ingredients, not overcooked

I have seen these joints come and go and penny's stiil tops the list in this niche.
Stop ranting and go buy a bottle of kikkoman at the White Hen. Better yet order from the Chop Suey Buffet. Personally I enjoy the salsa that Penny always includes in the bag.
I agree Penny's is best enjoyed at Penny's. There is always going to be a trade-off if you have it delivered. Let's get away from our Plasma screens and Mac's and go enjoy life.
Pros: Great inexpensive food
Cons: closed monday

Beautiful pastries, colorful entrees, concientious and english-speaking staff... The food was wonderful, our group of 12 received fast service and they even took time to explain some of the more exotic dishes. I didn't have the chance to sample the exotic flavors of ice cream, but I can tell its made locally. They have 3 licensed chefs and multiple reviews from local newspapers... I can't give much more information- but they're great and we're going back soon.
Pros: Inexpensive $5-7, Delivery
Cons: Street parking
