We've only been to Chicago three times and already it feels like we've gotten into a habit of going to Billy Goat's.
When we've flown over from the UK and are tired and jet-lagged, the tavern is great to go on our first night for a carb fest. We love the 'cheseborgers' and the chance to sit and watch the world go by.
Of course it's not the cleanest, flashiest place...but there's loads of those kinds of places elsewhere.
Go, enjoy and know you've seen something bit different.
Pros: atmosphere, food
Cons: whats not to like?

This place is simply awesome! The hot dogs are to die for. Not only is the food great! But the atmosphere takes you back to another time. This place is simply a treasure. My kids love the food! the relish is neon green! Can you get any better than this?!? I highly recommend it for people who are from out of town, families, and everyone.
Pros: The food is great!
Cons: It can get too crowded

One of the first places I'll take out of town guests. Even though there's a long line, Doug delivers on the hype of the joint with great food and atmosphere.
Pros: Doug rocks
Cons: Long live - but deserved!

My mom and I ate there together, and we both agreed that it was an awesome restaurant. We sat at the bar first and enjoyed a couple drinks. The bartender was awesome. There was a dripping ceiling, which was kind of annoying, but the bartender tried to clean it as well as he could.
The waitress was okay. She wasn't overly nice, but that's maybe preferred. We made our own antipasto tray, which was fun and tasted good. My mom ordered a shrimp and fettucine dish, which came out before my pasta. That was a little annoying. I guess the idea is to share, but I don't like shrimp. So I had to wait for my food. When my pasta arrived, it was very good. Their marinara sauce is excellent.
I would recommend this place to anyone. It has some really good Italian food, good wine list, and fair prices.
Pros: Excellent food and drinks
Cons: Food comes when it's ready

To the reviewer who had the soggy pizza: You must just have had bad luck. I've been going to Vito & Nick's for years, and I have never experienced a soggy pizza or anything other than a superior product.
Vito & Nick's is the quintessential Chicago-style cracker crust pizza. Crispy crust, nice balance of toppings, clean-tasting sauce that is not overly sweet (like Palermo's "sugar sauce.") I generally order mine well done to get a little extra char on it. Other pizza joints worth visiting for their cracker crust: Aurelio's in Homewood, Marie's, Pat's, and perhaps Candlelite. But, for me, Vito & Nick's is in a class by itself.

I have never lived in Chicago, but occasionally visit for business and/or visits with friends. I discovered Pequod's after visiting a friend in Lincoln Park and it has been my favorite pizza ever since. I've taken co-workers, friends, and family there when we've been in town. The pizza is unlike any I've ever eaten--it's the best. I don't know what else to say here, other than I've hopped in many a Chicago cab and told them to take me "near Webster and Clyburn" to Pequod's in my southern accent (I've never lived above the Mason Dixon line). That may disqualify me from judging pizza in some people's minds, but I guarantee you that if you eat a pizza at Pequod's, you'll know what I mean. It's been way too long...need to plan a trip.
Pros: The greatest pizza I've encountered.
Cons: They don't have one in other cities.
