Great evening 2/28/2010

We read here on City Search some reviews of Rangoon and decided to give it a try. We went on a quiet Friday night in winter. We told the server we wanted to try two noodle dishes, and she made excellent recommendations. The entrees and soups were simply delicious. The ingedients were fresh, and the dishes were very tasty and satisfying. Service was attentive without being pushy. The price was right, too. Total bill was less than $30 for two people, two courses each. What a find. We will definitely be back. Pros: food; service more

a gem in Chinatown 5/1/2009

I've been eating at Rangoon for 10 years and have never gotten past the salads, noodle and appetizer dishes. Terrific food, and dishes you can't get anywhere else. Pleasant friendly service. I've taken many friends here over the years, everyone loved it. more

Burmese Food 7/11/2007

Walking around Chinatown, my friend and I ran into this restaurant. She has previously went here with another friend of ours who is Burmese. The atmosphere is great with white table cloth, good if you are out on a date. The food is fantastic for such a cheap price. I had the chicken mint lunch special which comes with rice and either a soup or a salad. All of which for only $6.50. The staff was friendly and efficient. I would recommend this place to anyone. So next time if you want something other than Chinese food in Chinatown, give this place a try. Pros: Friendly staff, great value Cons: N/A more

Value and Quality is what you get at Rangoons 6/14/2006

I go to Rangoons several times a month for lunch. You cannot beat the lunch prices with the anyone else. There daily soup is excellent whether it is egg drop or mixed vegetable. I prefer the Chicken Basil everytime I go to lunch.\r \r I recently tried dinner for the first time and that was pleasantly a great surprise. The price is a little higher but the quality was outstanding. I had the Chili Chicken over rice (Chicken cooked with chili peppers) and my girlfriend had the Mango Chicken. Both were overwhelmingly excellent. \r \r I always recommend Rangoons and all my friends come back and tell me with a content stomach they had a great time. Bring your friends. Great place for co-workers to go out as well. Pros: Service, Food Cons: Parking more

Delicious! 8/16/2004

Simply put, Rangoon is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. I'm from Manhattan and am generally pretty particular, but their food is excellent. The string bean salad with sesames seeds is amazing. I have been many times and the food has always been great. The decor isn't fancy, but in addition to being fabulous in its own right, dinner there is also one of the best deals you could imagine. Pros: Amazing Food more

uninspired 7/25/2004

I know this is sort of a local sacred cow, but I found the food uninspired. A Burmese friend once told me the food is heavily Americanized and that is just how it tastes, absent the mysterious flavors and ingredients that make authentic Asian food so much fun. Not bad, just boring. Pros: unique, service, cost more

Great for Lunch! 3/2/2003

Rangoon's lunch menu is one the best values in the area. For about $5-6, you get soup or salad, and a huge portion of your main dished served with rice. I would recommend the Sweet & Sour or the Basil Chicken. Excellent for dinner as well. Pros: lunch menu, friendly staff more

One of the best South East Asian Cuisine 2/7/2003

The food is excellent even though the portion is a bit small. However, it's well worth it. The calamari salad was recommendable. Kung Pao chicken was very good also. It is not the same as some cheapo chinese restaurant's kung pao chicken. This restaurant is highly recommendable. more

Never a disapointment 1/23/2003

I love this place. You should try the Green Bean and Peanut salad and the Ginger Salad. Both are so delicious, you could make a meal of them both. And the food is so interesting. Being in between India and Thailand, Burmese food has the best of both of these cuisines....both curry based dishes and dishes heavy on the basil. I have been here many times with lots of friends, and we all love their food. And it is a bargain too! Pros: Wonderful Food, Friendly Staff, Inexpensive Cons: None! more
