I had been having frequent trouble with my alternator, and knowing that Austin is saturated with auto service shops, the decision was a headache. But once I bit the bullet and took my car into Pro Tech, they got the ball rolling. I left my car there over night and before i even woke up, they were calling me to pick her up. My alternator was still under warranty so I was pleased to see an owed amount of $0.00. Most places would have at least slapped a service charge on for even looking at it. The mechanic did a good job of helping me understand better what was wrong with the car, which was great because I know very little of the actual mechanics. To sum it up, if you want to cut the BS and hidden additional charges, then take your car to Pro Tech Automotive. more

I moved here from out of state and was looking for an honest mechanic. Gilbert & Steve are exactly that. I have taken my Chevy Malibu to them for about 2 years now. They have done everything from fixing my wheel ball joint, to oil changes to recently replacing my left front hub assembly. I always get quotes from other mechanics and ProTech's is always the lowest. I am 100% satisfied with the service I have received and always recommend them to friends. more

I found Gilbert and Steve at Protech online when I needed them the most. I needed a second opinion and Steve took the time to explain to me what I needed and what he could do for me. I was at another Automotive Repair shop and I left there immediately and went to Protech. Both Steve and Gilbert are great at explaining what needs to be done and what can wait. I feel it's hard to find someone that is so honest with you especially being a woman. I know enough to know that I'm being taken advantage of and I do everything I can to make sure that that doesn't happen. With Protech I do not have to worry. I've had several things fixed on my car and it is such a relief to have someone I trust and they do it in a timely manner. They are very easy to work with too. I'm a busy person and use my car ALOT and I need it to be trustworthy traveling as much as I do and I'm usually by myself so I have to have a car that works. If you want the best go to Protech. more

After FOUR repeat trips to another mechanic in two weeks, a new Mass Air Sensor, two new oxgen sensors, and a mechanic who was afraid to adjust the throttle body, I finally boiled over and it pushed me to start the painful search for another mechanic. Thanks to the online 16 reviews all with five-star scores, I landed at Pro-Tech. I explained my situation to Gilbert on the phone and he verified my suspicions- "They [the other mechanic shop] are just throwing parts at you and really do not know what is wrong with your vehicle." I brought my truck in and left it there in the morning. By 1 PM I got a call from Steve. He checked out my car and found something odd about the computer diagnostics. He did some oline mechanic research (they have this amazing online mechanic database!). It turns out it was a Nissan Factory electrical code issue. All it needed was to have the computer re-programmed with new settings!! Unfortunately, Steve could not do the re-flash but gave me the specific bullet more

I have taken my vehicles to these fellas for years and have consistantly had a great experience. From excellent customer service (often going above and beyond), to great mechanic work, and (last but certainly not least) doing it all at an affordable price, I recommend ProTech to anyone needing automotive repair and/or maintenance. These two guys have been my auto techs for several years and have always done wonderful work for me. Recently, I took a friend to their shop to get some work done. She had not done maintenance on her vehicle in a while. They inspected her vehicle and assisted her in working within her budget to set up a priority list for what to get done as her budget allowed. I have been driving for about ten years and these are the first guys I have come across that I trust. I have been to many different mechanics and never found one I liked. I have not had any maintenance done to my car yet by these guys, but my girlfriend and I brought her car in to them a couple times so far. These guys are honest. They took us into the garage to show us exactly what was wrong with her car. They told us how much it would cost to fix it and even offered us an alternative that would not last as long, but would cost us less in the short term. Last week my girlfriends mom was in town. She lives about an 1 1/2 hrs from Austin. Her breaks went out on her truck due to a brake fluid leak on the front passenger side caliper. She had no brake pressure and did not want to drive far so we tried Lambs and Wal-Mart which was right down the road from her job. They both said they couldn't look at her truck because they were closing in an hour so we called Pro-Tech since we already had work done there on my girlfriends car. They took her moms truck in and stayed late to fix it on a Sat. since she was not able to drive back home. My girlfriends mom had her truck back in an hour and was able to drive back home. The guys at Pro-Tech earned my trust as well as my girlfriends and just made two new repeat customers. Most automotive repair shops will take advantage of woman, thinking that we don't know the difference between brake fluid and oil fluid, struts, rotors and fallopian tubes!!! (LOL!) After getting an estimate from my local Toyota dealership for repairs, which sounded overpriced, I brought my car to these guys and they saved me $$$, not to mention got the job done faster! Even an oil change is less than the dealership, and they use premium brand oil and filters!I'll definitely recommend them to all my friends :) Pros: Honest, Fast, Dependable, Clean Shop Cons: None more

These guys are awesome. When my car needed extensive repairs they made every effort to keep costs low yet make sure my car was safe and functional to drive.
