Most Unprofessional Management Ever Encountered 10/23/2010

This may be lengthy, but is worth reading. If it were possible, I would give this poor excuse for a business 0 stars. Paradise has co-owners and two separate floors; the bottom is a restaurant/bar and the top is usually for clubs and private parties. There is a separate bar and DJ for upstairs along with a balcony. \r \r On two separate occasions, we (a dancing group / organization) tried to work with Paradise to reserve their upstairs space. The first time, it was a private event just for our organization, and the club double-booked us and we were forced to change the date of our event TWO DAYS before it was supposed to happen, which resulted in some very unhappy people that showed up on the original date and frustration on our end.\r \r The private event happened as a result of our planning for our huge club party / fundraiser. The manager suggested having both events there because there is a good amount of space and wood floors for dancing upstairs. We agreed to having the private event there, but were planning for our club party over a month in advance with the management. After betraying us the first time, they guarunteed to make our next event a success and make it up to us. The club ended up screwing us over again.\r \r The manager marked us for the wrong event date (that she suggested), and double-booked us at the same time as a fraternity bar tab. We brought proof of our event booking (via email correspondence) to a meeting with the manager, who ignored us up until 3 days before the event, where we were able to get a meeting with one of the owners, Bill. Two days before the event, Bill agreed to give us the downstairs floor and clear out the restaurant space (though the floor is all carpet, which we were not happy about). \r \r Even after our compromise on the space, the night of the event we only had half of the floor cleared, and neither the manager nor the co-owner Bill were there to communicate with us. Instead, we were greeted by Leo LePage (the other co-owner), who was the most disrespectful and unprofessional businessman we have ever encountered. All we did for the club was provide additional revenue and improve the atmosphere (we brought in people and gave them a cut per head charge). However, Leo ended up get extremely drunk and treating us like scum. He told us ""our atmosphere was keeping people away"" (we had some Latin music playing) and that he wasn't making the money he normally does during that time. So, either we had to start buying drinks and change the atmosphere, or he was going to ""shut the power off at twelve"". \r \r We conceded to change the music, but before we even had time to try and resolve the situation, he had screamed in the face of two of our officers (both women), chugging his beer at the times when he was not talking. After yelling at them, he got in the face of our VP and assaulted him, before telling him to stop charging people or get the F*** out. Obviously, after being treated this way, we had no desire to be in the club, so we closed down our fundraiser and left the club desolate and empty.\r \r I am writing this review so that no one else has to go through what we went through. We are not writing this to make Paradise look bad, but to prevent others from suffering from their poor communication and mismanagement. At all times, we tried to communicate calmly and professionally with the staff (some of whom were sympathetic to our situation, but could not do anything because of the drunken owner), but all of our efforts were futile. Our only option was to leave. Please, spare yourself some pain and avoid working with this entity. more

Best food and bar on sixth street 10/22/2008

The staff is as great as the food. I had lunch there today with five of my friends. I asked the waitress if she could serve me a hamburger on French bread. No problem in fact she helped me create my own item off the menu. I love that. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience Cons: parking more

Used to be Decent, now Beware of small crawling animals 6/4/2008

""HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE...Been in Austin 20 years, have eaten here plenty of times and it's always just what it is, a burger place on 6th, with option for Chicken Fried Steak and a place to drink at a bar. Right in the center of 6th which would be ideal normally.....BUT NOT THIS TIME...Last visit for me. I sat and watched a cucaracha crawl on the wall under the neon light and then tried to eat my food and ignore it, then when I walked up to the bar, the bartender was shooing another HUGE critter off the cups in the bar area, needless to say WE LEFT. If they aren't getting enough business to justify a pesticide cleaning company....they need to shut down all I can say is EWW disgusting. Beware before even walking in the door,"" Pros: Used to be location and food late at night... Cons: well I listed them in my review more

Great Lunch Spot for Great Food 11/3/2006

Lemonade is REALLY good, food is excellent, portions are the perfect size! I love this place for lunch and the occasional late night snack. Pros: Art work on walls is for sale and always changing! Cons: If you go at night or during the lunch rush parking can be tough more
